Dr. Flanagan was a warm, helpful, and informative doctor. He performed surgery on my left knee in January 2025, and I decided to have the same procedure done on my right knee two months later. MCO is a nice place. If you break it, chances are they can fix it. They have a great staff here focused on repairing broken bones and healing. They also have a wonderful staff for rehab work, training, etc. They're a little on the expensive side though. $$$$ read more

Really seemed very interested what I had to say about my knee pain. Had Dr. Brian Flanagan!!! So understanding and Really Listen to what I had to say... Felt very comfortable... I would highly recommend searching for a different ortho provider. I was totally stunned to find out that I was charged over $1,500 for 2 simple and fast x-rays on a knee that was sore. That was on top of. $300 charge for a 10 minute consult. The injury self resolved but my disappointment with MCO has not. Luckily I have insurance but all that means is that my employer was responsible $1,650 of the cost. And people think prescription drug costs are an issue. I disagree and believe hospitals and providers are the problem. read more

Yelp's definition of a 2 star review is "Meh. I've experienced better." When it comes to MCO, that's definitely the case. I've seen a couple of their doctors over the years, primarily because of their convenient location. The doctors are polite and friendly, but they don't do a good job guiding you through treatment. I kept getting asked what therapy or treatment I preferred to do next without been given the information to make a decision. The whole point of going to the doctor is to get of their expert guidance, but often they seemed to be there just to sign a prescription for whatever treatment I wanted. I also found that the nurses and the billing staff can be cold and even rude. The billing lady in particular, is icy and unhelpful. Asking a simple question leaves you feeling like you are you are a delinquent debtor talking to a collection agency. read more

I have seen a Doctor there in the past, for knee pain and shoulder pain, and he has treated me several times. I am not going to mention the doctor here because this review it not about the doctor, it's about the office (the doctor is great). Now the office is telling me that I cannot make an appointment with that doctor because he is not taking new patients or cases. However, I am not a new patient, or a new case, I have seen him for the same issue several times in the past! This is not a nice way to keep patients or treat patients that he has been seeing for the past 5 years! Everything seems to have gone downhill now that northwestern took over. Ridiculous. I have been here multiple times over the past several years. You would assume that is because I'm happy with them, but really, it's because they are convenient and can usually get you in quickly b/c they have so many doctors available. I don't care for the fact that they just schedule you with any doctor, regardless of their specialty though. I've seen Dr. Havenhill, Dr. Nixon & Dr. Jablonsky. Dr. Havenhill is by far my favorite. I've had an MRI done at the facility & have had Physical Therapy there as well. Would recommend them for MRI's, not for PT though. I agree with the other comments about the billing department & the front staff. The front staff are robotic, very impersonal. My favorite is that they confirm all your personal information w/in earshot of other patients. When will medical facilities realize how inappropriate this is?? I contacted their billing department b/c I was billed as a new patient recently, but like I mentioned earlier, have been there multiple times. The rude woman told me it was "because it's been more than 3 years since you've been here". I asked her, how does that change me to a "new" patient? She then snapped at me & said it wasn't there billing policy, it's all healthcare billing policy. Come to find out...that is true across the board. Which is all fine, but it could have been handled better & more professionally. Have had 2 orthopedic surgeries, neither through MCO or their doctors. But it's convenient to get diagnostics done with them (rads, MRI, etc.) & then I'll go see my preferred surgeon if needed. read more

After being seen in the Urgent Care, I was informed that MCO was the "doctor on call" to cast my daughter's broken wrist. While they do not accept her insurance, I did follow all proper procedures (including getting authorizations and referrals). I tried going to an in network doctor, but no one would see her, again because MCO was the on call doctor. Made an appointment easy enough, waited 2+ hours to be seen, only to be told what we already knew. It was broken and she needed a cast. MCO refused to work out a payment plan and insisted on being paid up front, around $600! I had no choice but to pay. Afterwards, my insurance company informed me I should get a refund; however, it has now been 5+ months and nothing. Drs and nurses are nice enough, but the office and billing staff are extremely rude and not helpful. NEVER again will I set foot in that place!! read more

They were recently bought out by Centegra and you can tell the difference. Unfortunately, we have been frequent customers this year, and the change is not for the better. Impossible to get an appointment and who wants to wait a week to find out MRI results when you are in pain and waiting for a solution. Dr. Cox did my knee surgery and I can't say enough good stuff about him; his explanations were superb, his bedside manner exceptional, his advice respectable, and the surgery went well. I also have foot issues and Dr. Cox referred me to Dr. Samuelson. Unfortunately, not the same experience. I went in with too much pain to walk and after x-ray and MRI told me "everything looks good" and there's nothing he can do. I suggested maybe orthotics, changing shoes, changing my running form, or maybe there's some stretches or exersizes I good do and he said "nope - none of that will help the problem". The doctor we saw was fine, but the office staff is horrible! When we first scheduled an appointment because my son broke his hand, I received a call stating they needed a referral. My pediatrician assured me they took care of it. I received THREE more calls over the next 24 hours, the last being as I was on my way to our appointment. Each call, she insisted I call our pediatrician again because they did not have the correct forms. I embarrassingly called my pediatrician all three times and I was continually assured everything was taken care of. When I arrived, they said they would cancel my appointment because they didn't have the right paperwork. Then they opened a different cabinet and found it. They never even apologized. We just came back from our second appointment to remove his cast, only to find out once we arrived that the doctor wasn't there today. They scheduled this appointment for me 4 weeks ago. The receptionist said, "You should have gotten a call"... I didn't. And I know they have my correct phone number because of the 4 times they called me a month ago. My husband had to take off work, and now my son has to miss more school for a rescheduled appointment. I have complained to my dr. and apparently I'm not the only complaint. read more

I suffered some sort of unknown foot injury and I swear it was from this pair of tight shoes. MCO was my second opinion on how to treat my injury. Dr. Samuelson is their foot specialist. He is a bit...creepy. He rarely makes eye contact and he kept staring at my chest area, and it's nothing to brag about. He did suggest something that was very helpful in reducing my foot tenderness, but he kept pushing cortisone injections when it was going to do nothing to alleviate my situation. After the third appointment of him pushing the injections, I stopped going. I agree with the other reviews. I have PPO insurance, and my bills were really expensive. When I tried to work out a payment arrangement, the woman did treat me icy - just like Ed R said. I have excellent credit, I just can't fork out a whole bunch of money at once. The front staff is nice, but it is kind of confusing which window to go to and no one steps up and says, "I'll take you here." They just stare at you until you go up to the window. It's not very welcoming. I didn't do physical therapy or MRI's here. I was here at the end of 2011 through early 2012. read more

The staff has always been kind. I had to change doctors because one left the practice that I was seeing. The physician is an expert but he did not listen worth a shit. Dr.Nixon. Arrogant ,argumentative, did not bother to read my history .He wanted to argue about physical therapist said me needing surgery treatment. I am allergic and /or get bad reaction to cortisone, I refused that. He wanted to argue with me saying I having flushing He listed side effects. I was saying an allergic reaction. Open hives and sores is not flushing. My daughter said he was out right mean. He basically told me to follow the other Dr. Down the street and called me unhealthy. I laughed in the car. I am the healthiest person I know. Fat but healthy. I take 1 drug for bad thyroid at 65. I will out live all of them. You can refuse options they give. I will gladly go see somebody else. I asked him if cortisone will heal a tear in the shoulder. He did not answer it. It does not , it reduces inflammation. So why risk getting hives all over my chest and face over it. read more

I'd give the service 0 stars if possible. After being told I would hear from the surgery scheduler in 1-2 days I took it upon myself to call them after a week of nothing.... Informed that while they are understaffed and busy they had my file right there and had been meaning to give me a call. Asked when I would like to have my surgery I was informed that the doctor was busy for quite a few weeks and that the surgery time I would have liked, you know the one that I've been trying to coordinate with my job just wasn't possible. I was then told I needed to see a doctor just to get cleared for surgery but that doctor couldn't see me for 2 weeks so now were pushing 2 months of me needing surgery. I was also told that they would send everything to my insurance company for approval, well that was a lie. Nothing will be sent to my insurance company until 1-2 days before my surgery which doesn't seem right as they need to approve this in a timely fashion. Getting my records and finding another doctor ASAP since this office is clearly too busy to handle proper administration work while keeping patients properly informed. read more

My experience with the facility was meh OK.. I have gotten better service from other places the front desk was very professional and check out lady was very nice.. the Dr. seemed fast but the place was busy... what I really did not like about it is their MRI Office downstairs the equipment is old and not as strong as other places here in Crystal Lake and the bigger lady doing my test was very unfriendly she did not give me a warm blanket or headphones for the music she was very curt I think due to the fact I was inquiring about their equipment before hand, as I was deciding where I wanted to have my MRI done as I do like the newest technology testing machines as they give the best results. I went with them because it was convenient but after my rude experience with Nurse Ratched type I chose to go to Centegra for my other MRI and let me tell you it was a more enjoyable experience with better stronger new MRI machine. Plus the lady doing the test actually was very kind, friendly and made me feel human. : ) read more

Beware of being overcharged! Before even being seen by the doctor to determine if x-rays were necessary, the physician assistant was ready to take my daughter to have x-rays. The physician did a quick 1 minute exam that failed to even meet the minimum requirements for an orthopaedic exam. A regular family doctor would have done a more thorough exam. We saw the doctor for less than 15 minutes and were charged for a comprehensive exam (over $250). I would STRONGLY recommend avoiding this business and these doctors. Very unethical. read more

My experiences for my fractured foot has been positive. Dr. Samuelson has been my orthopedic doctor. From the 1st visit, he was very clear about the complexity of the injury, time frames of the healing, & explained what would be happening in that process. He explained the best scenario & what would be present for surgery. In addition, he stressed the importance of limitations put on me for every day & at my workplace. In the follow up visits, he x-rayed to ensure the alignment was still in decent position for healing & assured me that we were on the right track. Again gave me clear ramifications for movement & importance of waiting out healing process to heal properly w no repercussions. Dr Samuelson knew I was very active & needed movement for my job & life style. I appreciated him taking the time to discuss my x-rays, even on a busy day. Very knowledgeable orthopedic doctor. As a health professional, I would advise anyone with an injury to do some research before going to the doctor,. This gives you some information in order to ask questions or clear up any concerns that matter to you. The office was busy, but checked in & out seamlessly at front desk & even paid my bill at the counter with receipt in case of any overlap with main Centegra billing. read more

As a family we have been coming here for years, with 3 boys all in sports, it's a given. Our latest trip, which was a checkup, was ridiculous! The appt. was at 4, we checked in at 4. Waited 1.25 hours to be seen for 20 seconds at $114.00! Now I own a business... If I allowed one of my clients to wait even 15 minutes, I would have bad reviews blasted all over the Internet. I got up to leave 4 times and my son, a future lawyer(13 years old) convinced me to wait just a couple more minutes... My problem with all of this is that having what seems like 8 to 10 women in the 'office' area, why couldn't one of them have told me that the Dr. was running soooo late? I would have rescheduled! NEVER use this practice unless you want constant aggravation and abuse from the business office staff. I was strong armed into leaving a "Deposit" for a surgery on my daughter. I have exceptional insurance with an accident benefit-I owe zero for accidents which this was. I was told by Tanya in surgery scheduling my daughters was removed from the surgery schedule since I did not provide $300.00 depost. I was forced to give my credit card to get the surgery performed. The bill was paid and I owe ZERO. MCO had my $300.00 on their books for since 3-15-13. I called them along with my insurance company to get my refund. They will process it in a week! These people are horrible-my daughter needed surgery and was turned away until I gave a depost! The surgeon was exceptional but not worth dealing with the office staff ever again! read more

I went to MCO for what I thought was a Achilles Injury. I did have a Achilles injury but another tendon tear was missed. Upon first walking in the offices are clean but I felt the staff was very cold. I felt like I was nothing more then a number to them. My doctor did a poor job of making me understand the extent of the injury he knew about. "Here's your x ray go to therapy". After having difficulty in therapy maybe then a MRI should have been ordered? I switched doctors and a MRI was ordered immediately. Sure enough I have a tear in a different tendon. Went there on a referral for an HMO from another Doctor. Saw Doctor Nixon and was given the Robot treatment ans well as gotten the distinct feeling he thought I was faking. I work nights and sleep during "most"of their appoint times. Was treated rudely as well as brushed of to "therapy". Also was given another (Their therapy center) not the one I delt with before. Seems like it is just a self petuating machine they try to grease each others palm and that's it. They completely ignored that I told them I was going for an operation soon too, WORTHLESS read more

Went for a follow up today at the Huntley location with Dr Basran after a year of going to a specialist downtown. The ladies at the front desk took my info, and then after I sat down, started talking about me, and my medical file and how I must be there to try and get disability because I hadn't been there in a year. They used my first and middle name, when talking about me. I looked up at the woman and she knew I heard her, and they immediately stopped and she started talking about something else, but the damage was done. Very irresponsible, and NOT the case at all. I was going in for a follow up per the DR recommendation after HIS referral. I am shocked at the lack of empathy these women had. They should not be dealing with patient records and I will not be going back to this location ever again. Both women have short hair, and the one who used my name and made the comment about how I "must be trying to get on disability" and how "ridiculous" that is, wears red framed glasses. read more

I made an appointment because I have a 1) bulging L5 disk & MRI showed entrapped nerves, 2.) Rt. hip pain (arthritis / lack of blood flow to rt. hip, AND 3rd). swollen left knee + pain. I have a hard time walking with shooting pains! This facility, 1st appointment was with Dr. Cox, extremely nice guy & knee DR., He recommended I see Dr Jablowson? Because he was hip & knee Doctor, so I paid my co-pay and return the next morning to see Dr. J. He put me on meds and exercise and scheduled next appointment, and I paid co-pay again. Staff called me last week and said DR. J wants to reschedule so he can be off before Xmas. OK, Great because my knee is so swollen I can hardly walk. Today I seen him and he appeared unconcerned about the swelling. (now I have had twice, fluid removed w/ cortisone shot) I asked if he could remove the water from my knee and we wanted me to make a new appointment with Dr. Cox.. I ask Why? I'm here now, cant you remove the fluid? He said he was my hip Dr. What? I came there with 3 issues! I said he didn't have to give me cortisone since it doesn't work for me and he said he wouldn't remove the fluid unless I paid for the cortisone shot because he said my knee would swell up again the next day. FINE! Well he did remove a little fluid from the inside or inner direction of my left knee (were 2 previous Dr's extracted from the outer side of knee) and it was very painful compared to 2 previous times by different doctors. Needless to say.. I'm going back to 5-STAR, painless Dr. Bohnenkamp who is right around the corner! Super nice guy and I'm sorry I listened to friends to get other opinions. I wasted time & money. Oh by the way, 12 hours later I still have a very swollen knee and pain for the dam shot that I didn't want. GRRRRRRRRR Should I notify my insurance Co. about this? read more
