I got a great deal on a new vehicle in just 3.5hrs with Christina B. I did do a little prep work from home before hand. But before reading the rest of the Yelp reviews, keep this in mind. A lot of these people are going to a very popular dealership in a densely populated area. Which is going to make things terrible for you if you don't know what you're doing. Here's a few tips to make your experience a good one. 1. Don't go on a Saturday (and probably avoid Sunday as well). - This day is when everyone has off. It's the weekend. If you are really set on purchasing a car, make sure you do the research and make up your mind first (between at least two vehicles from competing dealerships/brands). Then, take a half day off work (it will be worth it because I promise you will make whatever you lost by taking off back in negotiations). Plus, it won't take all day like it would on a Saturday. Having the ability to have a person's full attention during the non-busy hours is crucial to making your process smooth. I was in and out with a new vehicle that I knew I wanted in only 3 hours (paperwork and negotiations still take a while, but it beats paying sticker price). 2. Yes, you will wait a while when negotiating. (LIKE ANY OTHER DEALERSHIP) - Giving a dealership a negative rating because you are waiting a long time during the sales portion is just ignorant. EVERY DEALERSHIP DOES THIS. This is just a downside with not just purchasing at sticker price, but be aware that to get the best deal you're gonna have to wait. They will run numbers with finance and probably sit in there a good 5-10 minutes (even if they are completely free), because it applies a psychological pressure. AGAIN. EVERY DEALERSHIP DOES THIS. If it's not on a busy day, you're waiting the minimum amount of time. 3. Be prepared with a down payment if you can (this will speed things up) - Money Talks. Period. If you have to go to a Credit Union and get a low interest loan on the first $X thousand dollars you are putting down, do this. Being able to put down money on the spot WILL help you make the sale FASTER and closer to your goal price. Look up other negotiation tactics and keep an objective view of things. This is not a guide on how to negotiate at a dealership, just on how to not have a bad time. So keep in mind that the rest of the reviewers probably didn't have their mind made up and pussyfooted their way through the process, leading to a bad time for everyone (and the negative reviews). 4. Be polite. (duh?) - I feel like this shouldn't have to be said, but people treat you better if you treat them with respect. NOW - an objective review. So now that you know how to interface with dealerships we can objectively look at the shopping experience that you get here. As long as it isn't a floor model, you are going to get a quick and helpful experience when test driving the car. This process doesn't take long, even on the busy days. Yes, it might take a while for a sales rep to notice you if you are coming in the back entrance (by the sales department). In the back, people are doing sales, not trying to help new customers. Just aim for the big blue Honda entrance (AKA "the front"). If you come in the front, so long as there's a person available, you are noticed right away and are helped in a friendly and polite manner. The sales process is also friendly and easy to navigate (given you know what you're doing). This being said, I have only ever purchased a new car here, so maybe take into consideration hidden fees with used cars. This seems to be something that is mentioned in other reviews that I read before coming here. I didn't see them on my NEW car purchase. But buyer beware on USED, as I cannot say that I have seen a sales sheet for these vehicles. Overall, my experience was great. I got in the car I wanted at a great price! I was in and out within a few hours (although I had visited other dealerships first, because you want a second car for negotiation). This being said, I spent a total of 5 (FIVE) hours in dealerships COMBINED. Yes that's right, you can do it this fast if you do your homework. I spent 1.5 hours at the first dealership (to test drive the alternate car, and get the sticker price). And 3.5 hours from entrance to purchase at this dealership! YES, it only took me THREE AND A HALF hours in person at this location! As far as I'm concerned, this is phenomenal and is the hallmark of a great dealership. You can do it too if you do some prep work researching the vehicles you want online first and go in during the weekdays (for the record, I went in Friday at 2:30PM, and had the car purchased by 6:00PM). I got a great deal on this new Honda Clarity and fully recommend this dealership to anyone looking for great sales reps and a smooth purchasing experience. So I brought in my car for what the dashboard was saying was a "hybrid battery" problem and that it was not charging. I explained my problem to the service advisor along with a few other things (car wash and oil change) that needed to be taking care of. I was told it wasn't going to be covered under warranty right away, when they didn't truly even know what the problem was at that point. One of the main reasons I bought a Hyundai was for its unlimited hybrid battery warranty life, to be told right away that wasn't the case was pretty frustrating especially when there were banners all over the showroom stating the same. I dropped the car off Saturday morning and got a call a few hours later telling me they figured what the issue was and that it will be taken care of right away and it would be done by end day. Good news right? No. They service team closes at 4 and the cashier at 5pm. When I didn't get a call by 3:45 I started to call to confirm if the car was be ready. They kept on putting me on hold until the line would disconnect by itself or staying on long enough to leave a message for someone to call back (which no one did), and when they did finally answer (4:01pm) they told the service department was closed an no one could help me. Since the dealer was closed Sunday I had to wait till Monday to pick up the car (keep in mind I had to call again to get a confirmation the car was ready - no one was calling me to let me know). When I went in, I found out they were trying to charge me almost $400 for what I was told over the phone was a "hybrid battery", and that it was going to solve the problem. Funny thing is, she mentioned after changing the battery and test driving the car they still had the same issue. Only once pulling it back in and they checked the fuses, they found the issue. That being said, it was obvious at that point the issue was the fuse and not the battery. Again wrong. She explained how they were both related and needed to be changed together and that the battery didn't work. I have been driving hybrids since 2009 and I know hybrid batteries weren't $400, but rather more expensive, I thought she might have changed a "cell" in the battery or something. When I kept asking her what battery she changed, the "hybrid" battery or the "regular" battery, she kept on repeating, "we changed the interstate battery." Now, if I explain ten times that I'm not knowledgable in cars and just needed an answer for which of the two she changed, and she kept on repeating only "interstate battery," it was obvious at that point she did not want to tell me that she didn't change the hybrid battery and was trying to charge me almost $400 for a regular battery, and that interstate was a just a "regular" battery brand which I later found out. After telling me they got rid of my older battery and not being able to find it, she did after I made sure she knew I wasn't going to pay that much for a battery of such kind. I ended up taking the car to a AutoZone so they could check the battery to confirm if the battery was truly an issue or was it just the burnt fuse, and as expected the battery was at 100% and had no issues and the fuse was the only issue. I do not respect the fact that I was treated like I was naive or just down right unknowledgeable in cars that they tried to over charge me in such a way ($170-200 battery at O'Reilly and AutoZone). I tried multiple times to have her explain the battery she changed using a different term other than "interstate" and she insisted on not changing it, nor could explain it was just a battery brand and not the hybrid battery they were changing. The car wash and oil change that I asked for were also not done. This wasted too much of my time and money as I had to rent a car and take days off for longer than what was needed, and the fact she tried to lie to get more money out of me was out right disrespectful. I will not be bringing in my car here and will be telling my friends and family the same. I thought bring your car into the same dealer you bought it from would be safe... apparently not! Buyer beware! This dealership is what gives used car dealers a bad name. They uses bait and switch techniques, do not price cars on their lot so they can charge on a whim, add on costs they are unable to attribute to any service or product, assume people are idiots, and don't care when the customers leave unhappy. Do research on the product and the dealer before you go into any dealer. Ask for itemized costs of everything. Get everything that is said in writing. Full story: We found a used car we were interested in on Autotrader. As we live 90 minutes away, we called and spoke to Adam the "Internet sales manager" to verify the car was still available and were told yes. We were also told they had two cars of that make and model. We told him we'd be in the next day. On the way to Chicago we again called and spoke to Adam and were told the cars were available. When we arrived and got out of our car, the sales people descended! After being told Adam was busy, we worked with the first sales person. He said he'd bring one of the two cars out but not before trying to sell us a new car with financing. We were going to pay cash but did not discuss our financial intentions (if they know you are paying cash they lose a big incentive to work with you as much of their profit is in financing) When he brought the car out, he passed us on to a"partner" . The second sales person had to deal with us as we stood stunned to see that the car that we drove 90 miles to see, that had been shown online, had damage not shown in photo. We inquired about the second vehicle we were told they had, but were informed it had been sold. Sold in the first 20 minutes after opening?! I think not. The dealer then drove up another car with no evident price. We were told it cost several thousand more than the one we came to see. Not interested. We walked across the street to see other used cars. None of the cars in the lot had prices. We had some interest in the damaged car as it was not structural so we drove it. Upon our return we wanted to talk about the price as even the sales person acknowledged it needed at least $1500 in body work. The salesperson said that they had a "no haggle" policy like Carmax. "It's easier for you this way" he told us. "What you see is what you get- as is". Hmmmm. Right.... We inquired as to what the total cost would be on the damaged car. The salesperson took out a sheet of paper, wrote down the price listed online, added sales tax, title, license. Something was wrong with his calculations as this price was $1300 more than it should have been. When questioned, he passed us off to the used car sales manager who was incredibly rude and defensive when asked to explain the additional $1300. He told us there had been some damage to the car and he had taken care of most of it. We said, "If that is the best your shop can do, you got ripped off!" He did not care for that comment, and said we did not need to purchase a car from him. He ended the conversation. We returned to the sales person who asked what we wanted to do. I said we wanted the car at the advertised price, the "no haggle" price. Apparently "no haggle" means they won't lower the price but will feel free to add on any amount! The sales rep went back to his manager, came back, and said "You have a deal". He again itemized the price and was still adding a bogus $1000. We inquired what that covered, what repairs had been done. Back to the manager he goes. Upon returning he shows us a hastily created document with $800 for a battery, and $200 misc. fee. There was no indication this paper was even associated with any vehicle. At this point we were so insulted by the experience we easily got up and left, but not before telling them how sleazy their techniques are and how they should be ashamed of themselves. We headed for Chicago, had a great lunch, and had a few good laughs thinking what fools they made of themselves. read more

I purchased a used Honda from McGrath City Honda and the experience was both professional and pleasant. I don't like shopping for used cars. I do it once every 10 years (or so) out of necessity. I was not looking forward to the used car buying experience. I found the exact car that I wanted online (make, model, color, mileage, price) and McGrath had it on their lot. I was delighted that the two salespeople that helped me; Ruben (not sure of his last name) and Dave Kazarian were patient, good natured, and professional. No tricks, no tactics, no pressure. Ruben was the first person to help me and he let me inspect the car closely for over an hour. We took a test drive and everything was fine. When I popped the hood I noticed a subtle engine sound that was not familiar to me. I expressed concern that the sound might not be normal. Ruben assured me that this was normal with Hondas and that if I wanted, he would get the keys to a new Honda so that I could listen to that engine too. He retrieved the keys and sure enough, the new and used Honda engines sounded the same. I was happy that Rubin was so helpful. I felt good about purchasing the car. After the test drive I began to work with Dave. Dave is friendly, likable, energetic and attentive. He introduced me to a manager and we had the standard back and forth discussion about the price. I did my homework and I knew what I wanted to pay. We agreed on a price that was fair for both of us. We breezed through the paperwork and I drove the car home. The car was nicely detailed, Dave had the service department wash the car, add some gas to the tank and they made a second key as I had requested. Dave made the purchase and delivery as enjoyable as a used car transaction could be. I've driven the car for over a month and everything is fine. I give Dave and Ruben high marks for customer service and professionalism. I would buy from them again. If you are thinking about buying a car from them (or any dealership) do your homework, be a well prepared consumer, and be prepared for the buying experience to last for at least 4 hours (including test drive and thorough inspection). One last thing...as the day wore on and dinner time was approaching, the nice girls at the counter offered me a granola bar. It was a kind and welcomed gesture. My experience with purchasing a 2012 Honda Civic LX sedan (which I love, by the way) was mostly pleasant with the crew of McGrath City Honda. I arrived five minutes before closing time so I did expect some delays, what with it being the last day of the month. I was met by Alex, who then referred me to Jose Lopez. Jose was very friendly, accomodating, and reasonable in his negotiating. I didn't have any major problems in dealing with him. It took about half an hour for us to reach a deal, during which he sought every request I made. I must note, before I forget, that Ruby Gonzalez, the internet salesperson, was extremely helpful and accomodating. She provided for me a great quote, and that was the main reason I chose McGrath as the dealership from which I would buy my car. They quoted me a better price than Fletcher Jones, and that was the deciding factor in choosing the seller. The only problem I came across was in the financing department. I expected the paperwork to take a while, and in this case it was about 90 minutes or so. The staff were kind enough to buy my family and I dinner while we waited. The wait is not the complaint, though. The complaint is with the financing representative who attended to me. I was given a certain quote for gap protection coverage, and it turns out that was not the quote that was specified in the document, and not by a narrow disparity, either. Rather wide, actually. I have contacted the financing representative to inquire on that issue. If there is one thing customers hate it is being "hoodwinked" into a deal. I would have given the McGrath dealership 5 stars but cannot do so for the financing department didn't meet my expectations, which are not set very high, either. I merely want to pay what I was quoted, not a much larger sum. If McGrath clears up the misunderstanding/confusion, I will add the last valuable star to my review. Overall, I recommend the dealership to anyone looking for a great price and accomodating salesmen/saleswomen. I cannot say the same for the financing representatives, though. I am grateful and excited to share my experience with Mario,Jodi and McGrath Hyundai. I got a great price and was treated with respect throughout the entire car buying process. I was concerned,as anyone is, to purchase a car. The entire process is quite overwhelming. Buying a car is a big decision, and in today's economy, you have to get the right price. As a female, i feel uncomfortable and defensive when dealing with buying a car -ready for these car salesmen to take complete advantage of me. I literally walked into the dealership, uncomfortable and defensive. What a relief to have a positive car buying experience!!! Mario was really open, honest and fair. We discussed the cost, and i was offered a great price. I did do my research and know i have a fabulous car at an amazing price. Mario had my back and worked hard to ensure i was happy with the final deal. This was not an easy task (making sure i was happy) because of my uncomfortable and defensive manner (again, as a female, you assume to be treated like a sucker). Mario is a true gentleman, and at the end of the day, wants to make sure his customer is happy in the long term. I trust him!! A car salesman!! Yes - i just said that!! Uncomfortable and defensive lady turned it all the way around to trusting!!! Simply incredible. Jodi, the GM of the dealership, also made this experience so wonderful. The place was busy, and i knew he had a lot going on. Although he was very busy, this did not stop him from ensuring my experience was positive. He also worked very hard to make sure i got a great deal on a great car. Jodi checked in throughout the process to make sure i was happy. His commitment to running a great dealership is evident, and McGrath is lucky to have him on the team. They also have complimentary Starbucks coffee. Great touch! This was my first time buying a new car and I knew I wanted a SUV. My credit score was that great "low 6" but I wanted to try to get the best deal based on what I could easily afford. I went to one dealership in Oak Lawn and they offered me a pretty decent deal but I wanted to try at least a couple of more dealerships before I made a final decision. This dealership was close to where I live so I decided to go in and see what SUV's they had. I was greeted by the Salesman's Alex Tillman and he asked me what I was interested in. That was the start of the end of my car shopping. He showed me the CRV and I was in love!!! It was small on the outside but really roomie on the inside. Alex showed me all the bells and whistles this baby comes with (Bluetooth-backup camera with 3 views, etc.) and once I test drove it; I knew it I wanted it depending on the price. The true challenge... Alex told me he would work the numbers with his general manager and work they did. By the time it was said it done, I was shaking hands and really felt like I got a great deal! Since it was late that evening, Alex told me to comeback so he could walk me through all the cool things my car and do for me. I did and I appreciate the time he took to explain everything to me. Drove from Iowa for a 528i and the car was what we expected. The 4 hour drive was worth the deal we received. Did not like the haggling but we both reached a compromise that we all can live with. Just wished we could have done the entire process faster but when you deal on-line that is to be expected. Their inventory of luxury used cars seems excellent. Give Arthur a shot he seems to be a nice guy. As for his sales manager he was a complete A@#$le. Long story short I called the General Manager and the another manager to make a complaint about his behavior and guess what? I received a call from him that afternoon apologizing for his actions. The management at least stepped up and took care of that issue. It however seems that I am not the only one who had a problem with him. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because of the follow up. The did pay for items that were promised so I was pleased with that part of the service. One person in this whole operation stopped this from being a 5 star transaction. There does seem to be a trend here so beware of their predatory practices. Arthur was very insistent that I give them a yelp review while waiting which should be a red light. I was a little generous at the time but things went down hill after I gave my initial review. I amended it after all transactions had taken place. read more

I have not bought a car in over 15 years. I scoured the internet within 200 miles of my hometown using cars.com looking for just the right car. I ended up finding it at McGrath City Honda. It was a black 2011 Honda Odyssey EX-L in superb condition. It was just like I drove it off the lot for the first time. No scratches, dings, or nicks were present. McGrath's service department inspected and detailed the car ensuring it was in top condition right down to the tires. They replaced all of the filters, fluids, and oil even replacing a tire that seemed bad ensuring the highest standards for their cars. I dealt with 2 salesmen from McGrath (Dave Kazarian and George Welykyj) who were exceptional. Since I lived over 3 hours away I needed someone to be my eyes and ears helping me to gather as much information as I could before deciding to make the long journey. These guys provided me with lots of information and pictures even down to the brand name of the DVD player. They helped me to negotiate the best price for my budget and were very courteous and willing to work with me through the whole process knowing they could sell the car to someone else for a lot less hassle than dealing with me. I recently purchased a certified pre-owned vehicle from McGrath City Honda and felt compelled to write this review! First, let me say I hate going to car dealers and have avoided such in the last 17 years. McGrath, however, and specifically Carl and Gilbert helped to change my opinion about this car dealer! I am a very particular customer who researches her vehicles thoroughly. I experienced very honest and clear communication at McGrath and felt no pressure whatsoever to purchase. Both Gilbert and Carl wanted to ensure I had good experience and got the right vehicle for me, with a fair price. I visited twice and find their customer service exceeded my expectations. After purchase, that same customer service continued. After waiting for a call to set up service, I called them and within hours received three phone calls to apologize that service hadn't reached out sooner and a guaranteed date to bring the vehicle in for the minor bumper repair they wrote into my purchase. In addition to this quick follow-up, they washed and detailed my car for me again!! Gilbert is kind, laid back, and a no-pressure salesperson - which we loved! Perhaps the historical high pressure, less than honest sales tactics of car sales have become a thing of the past, or perhaps McGrath City Honda has chosen to take the High Road. I recently worked with Ryszard at McGrath on a new car purchase. From beginning to end (which took me several visits, I might add), Ryszard was very professional and wonderful to work with. He was very patient, showed me all the features of the car I was interested in, explained each item making sure I understood all the new technology, especially the safety features. He always made me feel important as a consumer and never rushed regardless of any questions/concerns I voiced. He was always honest, very polite and respectful. If he didn't know the answer, he sought out the person that did. I feel Ryszard negotiated on my behalf with the manager and am very pleased with him and this dealership. When I picked up my new vehicle, Ryszard again explained the car, set up functions and made sure I understood. My lease was up on my 2015 Honda Civic. What to do? Well I phoned salesman DAVE KAZARIAN because I knew I could trust him to help me out! He was so helpful with my 2015 lease that I couldn't think of anyone else I would trust more to help me drive away with another car this year. DAVE came through once again and worked with me to get me into the gorgeous 2018 Honda Civic that I'm happily driving today!!! I knew DAVE has the experience and the knowhow to get me the car I wanted at the monthly payment I could afford. I can't stand manipulative salesmen so I KNEW I had to call DAVE and I'm glad I did!!! I even brought my son into McGrath Honda on Grand Avenue to see DAVE KAZARIAN when he wanted HIS first car and now he's driving HIS OWN Honda Civic!!! DAVE KAZARIAN is a gentleman and a top notch, knowledgeable sales guy. OH!! AND DARIUSZ in Finance was SUPER helpful, knowledgeable, and patient too and was fantastic to work with!!! This was my first car buying experience and I was referred to McGrath City Honda by a friend. I was a little apprehensive at first because I had a poor experience at another dealership, but their customer service went above and beyond my expectations. The general manager Mike Halloran and my product specialist Marek "Mark" Szetlak made me feel very comfortable as they were very transparent during the whole buying experience. I was looking for a Honda Civic in the $12,000-$15,000 price range and Mark did a great job in helping me find a vehicle that suited all of my needs and my price range. He was very professional and helped me through every step of the process. I decided on the Honda Civic EX and Mike was able to match the price to a competing dealer ship. I decided to finance the vehicle, but after completing my credit check my credit score was lower then I initially thought. This is my first review here on Yelp and it is long over due. I had such great customer service from the staff at McGrath Honda. This was my first car purchase from a dealership and I had some hesitation because I heard and read some bad experiences. It really depends on the sales agents approach and mannerisms. I purchased a used Honda Civic 2012 from sales agent Alex Tillit back in October 2014. I went with my sister and met Alex Tillit and he was very professional, down to earth and definitely not a pushy sales agent. He was very upfront with information in regards to the cars and cost. I know I got a great deal and with the internet there is nothing to hid with the Carfax.com. You can compare prices online prior to purchase yourself but Mr. Tillit even took time to show me other dealerships and showed what their prices were compared to his dealership. I was very happy with the whole car purchasing process. I will definitely go back to McGrath Honda especially to Alex Tillit for future car purchases. read more

My Dad and I had a wonderful experience at McGrath City Honda! I'm so thankful for Elba and Luis they were very personable and honest. After having a bad day, Elba convinced me to head down to McGrath City Honda and I'm so glad she did! Right away as we arrived we were greeted by Luis Ramos and he went above and beyond! I had been looking at the 2016 Honda Fit and even though they closed at six and it being the Saturday before Easter he took his time and made sure we were pleased and comfortable with our purchase. You cannot buy a car over the phone or via email. Yes it is the 21st century but to buy a car YOU HAVE TO COME see it! Now, I called in, spoke to customer service reps and they gave me the preliminary information I needed to get started. I came, was greeted by this man named Bill Jew- hard name to forget, and was introduced to salesman Alex Siapano. He did his job well and got me and my husband into our new Pilot. The manager there Carlos was a joy to speak with and new how to negotiate BUT he did what he must do in order to make money. I was happy to part with it because of the way we were treated. Also, the finance man there, Dariusz was also stellar in the way he made running the numbers a somewhat barriable experience.
