McGill Teak We decided to move on from Home Depot patio furniture and I used Yelp to pull up five vendors who sold quality furniture with high ratings that we would look at. Of the five we looked at, three were eliminated due to eye-popping prices or selection. We went to look at the McGill Teak showroom where we met Minnie. They had a good selection of high quality stuff and there were a number that would have suited us but we narrowed it down to two. Minnie was great to deal with. She was honest and not in the least pushy, which was very refreshing. I can get very picky on details but she answered all my questions. We really liked the Rise Rope set of a sofa, two chairs and a table. It's really nice, very comfortable and was a good price so that's what we went with. We also bought a couple of nice teak side tables to complete what we need for the patio (see pic below). Minnie just made everything so easy. The delivery was on time, five days later. A really nice experience. After a long day going around various places we got the set we liked best and even better it was a good price. A good end to our day. read more

We began our journey when we were innocently sanding our deck. I saw a few pieces of teak outdoor furniture that my neighbor had and instantly fell in love.. I started on the Internet, searching for pieces and found a site that offered remarkable prices. However, in closely examining the quality, I wasn't convinced to order. Then our journey began. We went to every outdoor furniture store that offered teak for sale, from San Jose to San Mateo. One late afternoon, I convinced my husband that we must go to one last place, which was McGill's Teak. It is located in a semi industrial area of Mountain View. I am so glad we persisted in looking because when we went there, we found such a wide variety of furniture and accessories, all of it exquisite! Minnie, with her quiet and non pushy demeanor, is a wealth of information regarding teak. She was thorough and knowledgeable about the care and maintenance of teak. She wrote down everything that we were interested in with prices. We went home, thought about it, looked at our deck and knew we were going back. Two wonderful gentlemen, carefully delivered our dining pieces, and we couldn't be happier! But they didn't have as much selection as this place. With my indecisive personality, I liked how they had so many different varieties of chairs and table sizes. Their service is great! Very helpful. I was initially hesitant in buying any furniture online because I like to touch the material but I found a very reasonable price teak outdoor dining table and chairs and finally took the step of ordering after talking with the owner. I must say we (my wife and I) were very pleasantly surprised when we received the furniture. Wonderful teak furniture offerings, great selection, generally strong service! We bought a slew of furniture from Minnie at McGill patio furniture recently for our home. We found Minnie to be patient, attentive, and not pushy, ultimately helping us find furnishings that both met our needs and budget. Minnie was also very good about communications (email, calls) from start to finish; we felt that we got very good personalized service. Teak Furniture: We liked the wide range of Indonesian teak furniture pieces McGill had to offer, mostly of outdoor/patio uses. The style and craftsmanship were clean and functional; generally very sturdy and well-made, leaving us feeling that we'd invested in good furniture pieces that would last the long-haul. I hope McGill continues to focus on quality and sourcing the best-made teak pieces. Cost: Not cheap. If you're looking for cheap furniture, then teak is not for you. McGill's offerings were not inexpensive, but good quality investment pieces meant to be kept and enjoyed over time. We were able to take advantage of "sales" ongoing at the time, which allowed us to buy the right pieces for our needs, tastes, and budget. Delivery Service: Our only complaint was the delivery service was not properly executed. Delivery guy (owner?) was very nice, but a little clueless on the details of our order. Most of our pieces arrived as expected, albeit 5 days later than first committed. (Delays due to stalled weather sealing.) Also, we didn't get all the pieces originally promised, which resulted in our having to go back and get loose items ourselves. A bit of a hassle. Minus 1 start for these lapses. End result was we got furniture we love and enjoy every day, so I'm happy to have bought pieces from McGill. We've referred several friends to Minnie since, all of whom have been happy as well. I recently bought a large "Titan" sized teak table, chairs and bench from McGill Teak Furniture. It was a terrific experience. Our saleswoman was well informed and patient, and helped us choose a right sized table that would meet our needs (no sharp corners since we have kids). She also let us try out all their chairs until we found the ones that we most liked, and arranged for delivery over the holiday season as well. The quality of the furniture is a cut above what you can find elsewhere (particularly at a bib box or chain store). The wood is beautiful, thick, well cut, and assembled properly with strongly made and well thought out joins. I'm a stickler for these issues being descended from two generations of furniture makers. The design is also clean and visually appealing. I felt pricing was quite good given the high quality of the workmanship. Finally, I am very pleased with their support after purchase. Some time after purchase, we changed our minds and decided we wanted the furniture sealed (you can order it with or without the furniture). They came out to our house, cleaned the furniture, and then sealed it for us. I can only imagine the difficulty dealing with such a change of heart had we not gone with a local supplier who takes their business and customer service very seriously. Overall, this business is top notch and a welcome addition to downtown Los Gatos. Update - August, 2014: We were very happy with our dining set, and so we purchased a bench for the front of our house. I remain very enthusiastic about the quality of wood and workmanship. The joins on the wood are very well executed. It is also worth mentioning that the design is both "sturdy" but also graceful - their design work is coherent and pleasing to the eye. We have a mid-century modern home, for which our piece works very well (which is hard to find). They have alternatives that would also complement traditional homes. If you bring a picture of your house to the store, they can help you choose an appropriate style (as they did with us). read more

I search for places that make Teak furniture, and come up with McGill. Minnie was very friendly and helpful - and juggled all the customers flowing in and out of the store very well. The furniture itself is clearly high quality - you can see and feel that for yourself in the showroom. I ordered pieces that weren't in stock, and got delivery within a week. I initially discovered McGill Teak because they provisioned the comfortable seating area in the center of Santana Row (yes, the really nice deep seating under the oak trees). This is a family-owned business and they carry the highest quality teak at reasonable prices, with fantastic (Sunbrella) cushions made to order. I've had a number of their pieces for several years now (outside year-around) and they have held up very well, as you would expect. I just went back for more, and once again I was impressed by the selection, personal service, and quality of the materials. The showroom in Los Gatos gives you a good flavor of what they have, but they carry much more and will work with you. After much back and forth with a very attentive lady named Minnie who truly spent time answering my many questions and listening to how I planned to use the furniture, I placed an order in May, which included custom cushions with velcro ties as it would be used as pool patio furniture. Although the turn around is normally 6 weeks with custom cushions, at purchase Minnie told me to expect my items in June, which was ideal for me. My card was charged immediately in May and my furniture didn't arrive until the end of July. Awesome. The furniture assembled easily, looks lovely, and hopefully will stand the test of time. When the items arrived, they were boxed individually and included one mystery extra box labeled dining chairs that seemed to be sent in error. I opened just a corner of that mystery box very gingerly, only enough to peek inside, expecting that I'd be sending it back, and discovered it was the rest of the cushions. Thankfully I didn't open the box as you normally would since the box was literally jam-packed with pillows. Had I used box cutters to cut the tape, I would have sliced right through the top pillow. The fabric on the pillows is exactly like the sample and very nice quality. The seat cushions themselves are stiff and very uncomfortable. Hopefully they'll break in with time. Only 2 of the 12 pillows came with velcro ties as ordered. 5 came with regular ties and 5 (the back cushions) came with none. Yikes! Problematic since this is pool furniture. I immediately contacted McGill Teak to let them know about the error and also to let them know I wasn't thrilled that spending this much on patio furniture and having no one check the order for accuracy before shipping. Minnie wrote back that she was aware of the ties on the cushions, but sent them anyway because the "simple ties are just as good" and that it should be "obvious" that they don't add ties to back cushions as they aren't visible in the photos. Eh? Simple ties may be just as good to Minnie, but it's still not what I ordered. And while it's true, no back cushions have ties in the photos, neither do any of the seat cushions. Seeing as how that's an *option* to add, it seemed reasonable to me to assume that if I am adding *optional ties to the cushions*, I am adding optional ties to *all* cushions and not *half* of the cushions. Frankly, I wasn't impressed that her response to this was to blame the customer and I sincerely hope that isn't an indication of their standard customer service. At any rate, Minnie told me not to worry, the back cushions won't blow away. A swing and a miss, Minnie. I pick at least one back cushion off of the patio everyday and we haven't even had any real wind. Since this is pool furniture, I never would have purchased these cushions if I knew that the "option to add ties to the cushions" doesn't actually get you ties on your cushions. In summary, I have nice wood furniture, hard as rocks seat cushions, and back cushions that fall to the patio floor in a good breeze due to their lack of ties. read more
