Italian Beef.
Brenton W.

First time trying this restaurant. The moment I walked in I was greeted by the sweetest lady taking orders behind the counter. The restaurant itself was also very clean and orderly. Now to the best part...the food! I ordered a 6pc catfish nugget crispy with fries (not pictured because I ate it before I left the parking lot). The fish came out piping hot, well seasoned and crispy. The fries are house cut. The only critique I would have is to have my fries fried a little longer so they are crispy. Overall they were good though. Now to the very best part. Pictured here the Italian Beef. This thing was busting at the seams with very well seasoned beef, loaded with hot peppers (my request), and I also got mine dipped. I could not have been happier with this beef! I've been to Chicago for the real deal and this is the closest I've had in Louisville by far! So if you're looking for somewhere new in Louisville that has a huge menu, fresh food, and great customer service, look no further!

I was disappointed that it is carry out only, the food was amazing. One of the few places where…read morethe food was seasoned just right. In fact when I put hot sauce on the greens, I thought it tasted better without it. Looking forward to my next trip to Louisville.

I am so torn here. The food was like food my grandmother would make, which I really appreciate…read morebeing able to eat since she's passed on. It was not the best food in the world but the food here tastes like home to me. Just really well seasoned and old school. Now here's my issue. This establishment had me wait almost 90 minutes on a 92 degree day (WITH MY FIVE YEAR OLD) for two meals. They had already taken my money, otherwise I would have booked it. Here's what I ate: 1. Fried Pork Chop with mashed potaotes (they were out of potato salad) and greens, gravy on the side 2. Ribs with macaroni and cheese and Pinto Beans I also got a blackberry cobbler. I checked in after 30 minutes and they weren't sympathetic. I looked at these reviews later and saw that someone said the customer service at this establishment was hilarious and they were not kidding. Here's how everything tasted: Pork Chop: very flavorful, glad I got fried and not smothered for texture reasons Mashed potatoes: good and real, but nothing to write home about Ribs: They were okay. tender. tasted like they were boiled and that's not my preference...they were also swimming in sauce. I feel like ribs should be able to stand up without the sauce and I was not sure this could happen here. The bbq sauce is part of the dish for them. Greens: overly salted, underseasoned...they needed to be eaten by the pinto beans Pinto beans: absolutely no salt--would not order again Macaroni and cheese: this is the creamy kind, not the baked kind (not my preference. Gravy: excellent Blackberry Cobbler: FIVE STARS. Delicious, buttery, so tasty. I went home and tried to make one. Seriously: no notes here. It is a must try. Charging 2 dollars for a cup of kool-aid is insane. with this kind of customer services, it would be nice if they threw that sugar water in for free. I skipped it, but just thought I would mention if you plan on trying to have some for nostalgic reasons. I haven't had any in about 30 years and I was planning on it but not when I saw the price tag. I live in Illinois, but if I ever do visit again I will call my order in, go sight seeing and then pick up my food. Don't bring your kids to this establishment unless they have confirmed your order is ready!

Visited Chicken King while I was in Louisville, and I can see why it's a local favorite. This place…read moreserves some seriously good fried chicken. The dining area is small and no frills, so I'd probably use the drive-thru or take it to-go next time. We ordered the 4 whole spicy wings meal with two sides. I was surprised they include the entire wing, including the tip. Each wing comes with the drum, flat, and tip. The wing tip is actually my favorite part, and it's rare to find restaurants that leave it on. The chicken was incredibly crispy without being greasy, and the spicy seasoning had just the right amount of heat. I want that recipe! For our sides, we doubled up on the potato wedges, and they absolutely lived up to the hype. They seem like they're coated in the same seasoned batter as the chicken, giving them an extra crispy crunch on the outside. Pro tip: Order the purple drink! It has a grape flavor with a fruity twist, and it pairs perfectly with the spicy chicken. Overall, Chicken King is worth a stop if you're in Louisville. Between the huge portions and affordable prices, it's easy to see why it's been a longtime favorite among locals.

Someone brought their wings to a pitch in. Never being a fan of wings, I thought I would try them…read moreanyway. Much to my surprise I really liked them. Crunchy breading, juicy and tender inside. They were not spicey or dripping in any sauce, just regular breaded and I thought "I am going to have to go to this place soon" After doing some research I found that they have drive thru only for dinner hours. So I made my trip down Broadway to Chicken King and could not miss the big yellow sign nor the already 7 cars in the drive thru. Since this chicken has a otremendous fan base, I considered myself lucky to be #8 in line as others pulled behind me. The menu is packed full of items, so my first tip is to look up the menu online before you go...less pressure once you arrive...lol I ordered the 8 PC box (regular) for my husband, 3 PC tenders (that comes with 3 potato wedges) for myself and a medium peach cobbler to share. I was very disappointed that the tenders were not fresh nor freshly breaded. They were pressed and glued white meat formed into a tender. I actually only ate one, shared one with my dog and threw the last one away. The potato wedges were the star. I should have ordered more of those. My husband, who LOVES fried chicken was not impressed. He said KFC and Golden Corral has better. The peach cobbler was average. So, I am sorry to summarize our experience as not having a reason to return.

Jeremy makes great $8 fashioneds and has a lot of knowledge about the area. Frankly, we preferred coming here for drinks versus the two speakeasies, which we found disappointing. We also ordered some bites, which were delicious bar food. A word of advice, when you walk in here recognize that Jeremy is a long time Lowville resident so respect his bar, respect his craft and act appropriately. I only say that based on what I witnessed with a small group of young men.

There was a sink in my stall, and beautiful shadowbox artwork above the toilet. The hosts were very helpful navigating the place. They gave us an option to drink at the main floor bar, which seemed classy and had a stage for live music, or to go downstairs, which they said had more of a sport bar vibe. We chose the main floor bar because there were less people and we were helped right away. We got a couple drinks each and all were pretty good- no watered down drinks here! My favorite was the espresso martini. We also opted for the Doritos nachos which were pretty filling for an appetizer! The menu states it's for 3-4 people, but it was a good serving for just the two of us. It had Doritos, cheese, pickled onions, lime, jalapeños, and a mixture of beans and it was delicious. We overall spent about $70.
