You walk up, place your order at the bar, grab a number, and find a table. Tables are first come, first served, so if you see one open, take it. Drinks are a cooler of options or beer and soda on tap. Cash is preferred -- there's a fee if you pay with a card. The vibe is Wisconsin dive bar, in the best way. I ordered the dry rub wings. The flavor was fantastic -- the kind where you don't need a sauce, but you reach for the ranch anyway because it's that good. Seriously, that ranch dressing could go on anything. My best friend got the original wings and said the heat level is comparable to BW3 medium -- noticeable but not overwhelming. If you like wings, Chicken Licks is worth the trip.

My husband has been been reading about this newer restaurant that has hit the Madison area. We…read morehappened to be close by around the lunch hour so took the opportunity to try it out. I didn't know what to expect as I didn't take the time to check it out. When we walked into the restaurant I reality is a fast food chain. This particular restaurant is in what use to be a Hardies. It had a cool decor and we were welcomed upon entry. As we were looking o er the order board the cashier asked us if this was our first time and replied yes. He explained the spice levels and what we could substitute for sides etc. We both ordered the #3 with cheesy fries and a drink. Our meal included a chicken slider that had coleslaw and a sauce. It was more of a sandwich than slider, and another large piece of chicken that was like a half of a breast that laid on top of a piece of white bread. Dill pickle slices, a side of sauce and the cheesy fries rounded out the meal. The sandwich was delicious with the combo of coleslaw and sauce. The larger piece of chicken was surprisingly very tender and moist. The French fries were ok. If I were to go back I would skip the cheese topping. We both jumped in the ice tea as they had unsweetened, sweet, raspberry and peach. We got the sweet tea and it was pretty weak. We head south every winter and usually if I get sweet tea I will mix a little unsweetened tea into it. This sweet tea was ok with the sweetness for me but it seemed really watered down. I'm not one for fast food but I would stop back here for a piece of chicken or take out a bucket. I'm not sure how they make their chicken but it had a dry rub over a light texture, thinking the chicken may be deep fried and then Tossed in the dry rub. Our rub was medium heat. It was borderline spicy enough but next time we may try the next step in the hot spice.

Butterbird, I'm honestly offended we found you this late into our Madison trip…read more This place was an absolute 10/10 across the board! Vibes? immaculate. Service? incredible. Food? life-changing fried chicken, cheese curds, and cocktails that I'm still not over. Environment? somehow cozy and cool at the same time. This is the kind of place that feels way too unique to ever become a chain... which is devastating news because I desperately wish there was one in Kansas City. And honestly, that's probably why it's so special. It feels deeply Madison in the best way- intentional, high quality, and focused on doing their thing really, really well. Also, shoutout to Ian, the manager, who was amazing and made an already great experience even better with trinkets! Anyway, if you need me, I'll be emotionally processing the fact that we only got to eat here once. Can't wait to come back!

If that doesn't suit you, perhaps a sandwich of rotisserie chicken where the combined depth of the bread is roughly six times the height of the chicken. If I were to return and, in all seriousness, I would if others in the group persisted; I would order the chicken tenders where you are able to define where the chicken begins and the batter ends. Oh, the staff is a real positive and the decor and service outstanding. Games are available to play. The staff picks up the tables instead of you and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Parking extended into the adjacent businesses, but overall plenty of space Food 4/5: we got cheese curds and spinach dip for apps. The cheese curds were disappointing for being in Wisconsin. They were clearly the frozen kind and not freshly battered like many other places serve in the area. They were ok. The spinach dip is the star of the show. I love that they put tomatoes in it to give it extra veggies and the overall flavor is salty yet balanced. We got the Mau wowi, maple bacon, and Mac and cheese pizzas. Overall the Maui wowi and maple bacon had a salty sweet match up that brought the best umami. The Mac and cheese is just ok. Service 4/5: our waiter lacked personality but was overall great. Very attentive, continued to ask about drinks, and was prompt with the check when we asked. Ambiance 5/5: this place is huge. Overall adequate room between tables.
