Get your pick on! Had a fantastic time with the family picking early season raspberries, apples and peaches. The orchard grows a ton of different apple varieties so there's good picking during the full apple season. We got to choose between Zestar and Jerseymac apples during our visit. I'm a big fan of crisp and tart so the Zestars fit the bill. Peach picking was a bit of the same only fewer varieties. Raspberry picking was a fun new experience. You're essentially hunting and the fruit that is ready to be picked will slide off their cone-like cores. Since it was early in the season most of the berries were small or immature and there were a ton of bees buzzing around. I mean a ton where you'd go to pick and they would be buzzing around your hand. Don't worry though! The bees are friendly and indifferent to your picking the fruit. Just be gentle. Pro tip: come on a day where there's a breeze. We went on a still day in August and it was hot! 90 minutes in the sun and we were feeling pretty crunchy. read more

Best raspberry picking I've ever done! Used to go here as a kid with my mom, hadn't been in probably 25 years and one day saw on Facebook that they had raspberries for picking, jumped in the car and drove over! They were so flavorful and perfectly ripe. Everyone was very friendly and social distancing was being enforced while inside the barn where you pay. Will definitely go back here next season! read more

McDougal orchards was the real deal people! Besides having multiple kinds of apples to pick (outside and socially distanced also inside the farm stand for purchase) they have multiple kinds of pears, peaches, plums and raspberries. This place was beautiful, well kept, and very welcoming. Captain Jack's hot and fresh cider donuts were to die for! We will be back for those alone. Many family fun activities for Maine Apple weekend including corn maze, scavenger hunt, and fairy village. They also had jams, jellies, honey, maple syrup for purchase alongside home grown squashes, gourds, pumpkins and mums. read more

We had such a lovely time picking apples here! We walked along a cute walking path to the back orchard and were able to get some of every type of apple they had: honey crisp, mcintosh, and cortland. The price is per pound and very reasonable. Plus they offer a discount if you bring your own bag, which I love. There's a nice variety of other local products in their farm store as well, including yummy apple cider donuts. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting and everyone was so friendly. I loved every moment at McDougals. I went there late last fall and even though a lot of the apples in the front were picked there were still a lot of crunchy cortlands and sweet mcintosh hanging out in the back section. When you come here do yourself a favor and wait till the donut shop is open and help yourself to a disgusting amount of those fresh cider donuts. We went just a little after they closed and got a bag of the mini ones and I was in a sweet, doughy, cinnamon sugar dusted heaven. Grab some cold cider to wash it all down with and then let the sugar carry you through the apple picking fields. Everyone was really nice when we were checking out and they don't mind if you eat an apple or two while you walk around. I loved the friendly vibe and groups of families and couples strolling through. I have to go back next fall! read more

Loved going apple picking here !! So many apple varieties to pick and well marked. The rows of different apples are close together so you can pick different apples easily. We had a great time at this orchard. It was a little chilly Labor Day weekend so we decided to indulge in a typical fall activity going apple picking. I didn't realize how many varieties are available to pick already. All of the staff were very friendly, they had plenty of guides every step of the way. There were two orchards and you could drive right onto your choice. With our young kids we opted for the one with (free!) hayride. Would definitely go back, only other nice addition would be lunch options at the barn/donut shop! read more

They have so many apple varieties to choose from. It is a great experience to pick your own apples and other fruits.

I'm actually really sad to give this place two stars but I'm super disappointed. First off the corn maze is really not great. Granted, it's free, but still. Almost everywhere the corn is barely shoulder high so you can see over it. There are tons of places where it has been trampled and since the path through the maze already isn't very wide it's hard to distinguish which is a real part of the maze or created by others. The walking trails are nice and have a cute fairy village area which is cute. They are maintained well as is the orchard itself. Now onto the super unfortunate part. We brought our two year old daughter here and if you've ever taken a toddler anywhere you understand it's a struggle. At two she doesn't have a solid grasp on listening and is very independent. She found some small decorative gourds and was carrying them around. I let her because 1) I planned on purchasing some anyways so adding two more didn't phase me and 2) it was much more pleasant for everyone else there than listening to her scream. She dropped these gourds a few times. After a couple drops the woman behind the register looks at me and says "you know if she breaks those you have to pay for them, right?" These were FIFTY CENTS each. I obviously don't mind paying for anything my child destroys, but to point out that I'd have to pay for the fifty cent gourds seemed super condescending. After this my toddler was hitting the two gourds together, again since I planned on buying them I didn't care, and I had already verified withthe lady I'd be paying for those two gourds (which still weren't damaged by the way) and the woman says to my daughter in a not very friendly voice "you need to be careful with those, they bruise easily." Seriously? At this point I wish I had just slapped a dollar on the counter for my undamaged toddler gourds and left but we still bought some apples and a spaghetti squash, plus the gourds I picked out. I highly doubt we will ever go back and I certainly won't recommend this place. I understand as a parent it's my responsibility to make sure my child behaves, but I also expect a little understanding that toddlers are just difficult sometimes and that I have the common decency to take responsibility for my toddler if she breaks something. read more
