Three of us came in for a sandwich at 1pm. First thing we notice is a very basic menu, now that's…read moreperfectly fine if the sandwiches are above and beyond. We order and we are met with we don't have this, we don't have that (today only brown bread, no turkey etc.). We order something else, no problem. The sandwich I got had thinly sliced ham 2.5 slices in total. I literally ate a mayonnaise tasting sandwich. I took two bites at the park and tossed it. Why I won't ever go back? It was the sandwich sure but more so it was the dismissive responses we got from the sandwich maker (female). But the cashier, a petite older lady, she was as sweet as they come. Never going back.

Smitty's is a favourite spot of mine and family. Opened in…read more1960, Smitty's is a family oriented restaurant, offering casual comfort foods. For myself and family, we are big fans of breakfast foods at lunchtime - brunch is definitely great at Smitty's. The menus at Smitty's is very complete and has something for every taste - from all day breakfast to lunch / dinner menu (which includes appetizers, handheld, salads and mains), desserts. And let's not forget the menu for the kids!! All day breakfast is what brings the family and I to Smitty's - the menu is very complete and delicious. You can find eggs, meats, cubed and shredded hashbrowns, toast, pancakes and crepes, skillets, omelettes and eggs Benedict. I have eaten a variety of breakfast items at the restaurant: the classic traditional eggs and bacon, eggs Benedict, omelettes as well as skillets. It's hard to say which one is the best or my favourite - I would say that the food prepared and served at any Smitty's I have eaten at is fresh, of exceptional quality and quantity (no need for snacking until the next meal). I also had the opportunity to try a few of their burgers and chicken quesadilla, fish & chips and southern fried chicken, all very delicious!! Service is very friendly, professional and rapid. The ambiance is very relaxing as well, which enables you to take it easy if by oneself, or having a casual conversation with fiends or family. Finally, Smitty's has 80 locations across Canada, so you can enjoy their foods (almost) anywhere!!

We were looking for a place to get a quick lunch and then spotted Violet Mae's Bakery. As soon as…read morewe walked in we noticed the white board with various menu items such as sandwiches, soup and one type of breakfast sandwich. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with ham and my wife ordered a BLT. I also ordered a coffee. While we were waiting for our food we looked around to see what else is available. There were two fridges for frozen meals that could be taken home and reheated. There were some basic groceries such as eggs as well. Of course, being a bakery, there were lots of breads, buns and pastries. Our orders didn't take long, but since there are no tables everything was to go. That's okay, I can eat in the car. My wife said her BLT was especially good. My breakfast sandwich was very filling but also tasty and not messy so it was easy to eat in the car. My coffee was not so great. It tasted like what I often make at home. That is something that Violet Mae's could improve on. However if you are passing through town and looking for a place for a quick lunch to go, or you need to pick up some bread for later, this is your place. It's only a block from the highway and near the west end of Whitecourt.
