So tonight was really busy, pretty much every table taken, this didn't matter though we were shown straight to our table and given menus. You place your orders on tick box forms, and then give them back to the waiting staff. There's loads to chose from with out being over whelmed. Basically you chose your meat (or veggie burger) there's about 8 options inc lamb, chicken etc. then an extra filling, 2 sauces and a side all for around £8, bargain! Food was delivered to the table within 10 minutes, I would highly recommend the 6oz beef burger, grilled bacon and blue cheese with a side of fries, yummy!!!! My friend had the 6oz beef, Cheddar and onion rings which look equally delicious and somewhat mouth watering! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the service was faultless. I really like the decor, clean, crisp and modern with no gimmicks which is a refreshing change to some other burger places around. They have an out side decked sitting area at the front, which considering this place is on a bustling high street really catches your eye and quiet inviting. Great for couples and small groups, I probably wouldn't want to take a big group of rowdy friends, apart from anything else they probably wouldn't fit many in. Date: 7 June 2014 Location: The Meating Room, St Albans Burger: Cheesburger (Emmental) Burger Price: £7.95 Overall Score: 8/10 Bun: 8/10 Sweet but light, seeded brioche bun. Normally I don't like too sweet a bun but this had a lovely sweet contrast to the tasty patty and was a good compliment to the overall flavour. It's a great choice of bun. Sauce: 7/10 The sauce was good, but a little light for my taste. It would have been great to have an American mustard to lift it but unfortunately they only had English would would have been a little too powerful. American mustard would lift the overall flavour and give a more rounded sauce, especially given the fantastic taste of the patty. Patty: 9/10 This is the centrepiece of the whole meal. I thought I was eating a piece of steak at times, it was that good. The owner tells me that they use a secret blend of cuts, including topside, and they buy direct from the abertoir. For me (and this is personal) but a burger isn't a burger without a pickle and there wasn't a ghurkin in the house, sadly. My plea to the owners is please give us the option. The garnish was excellent. Too often we see limp and lifeless ingredients lurking under the patty but not so here - buoyant, vibrant salad with good crunch and colour. Try the tomato on its own. These guys really care about their customers and are happy to have a chat too. This is the great value of independent restaurants. They aren't filled with salaried employees supplicating to a stock-market-listed corporate deity. They are sparsely decorated with human beings with passion, interest and a genuine desire to see people enjoy the fruit of their labour. Long may it continue. Decor: 8/10 Despite being small they have brought an interesting industrial twist to their dining room which works well. I have been to many branches of this popular chain and I enjoy the food. I love the skinny fries and the panko fried chicken burger. This branch was on the High Street and very convenient to reach, We are dead tired after some serious shopping and got in as it was the first thing we saw as we were getting off the mall. The place was extremely busy, even at half 2 in afternoon. But the staff attended to us immediately and got us seated in the lower level. With the kids, the Sofa seats are always better. The seats were next tot he glass wall looking out to the high street and it was a bright sunny day. The kids got their activity stuff and were happy. I went and ordered the food - Burgers, skinny fries, milk shake - the standard stuff. The wife suddenly had a Goat's cheese salad craving and got one of those. Got the usual Peanuts and my favorite HArbernaro and Kiwifruit sauce (the replacement one, I still belive going for an inhouse sauce was a bad idea as Waha Wera were brilliant) and waited for the food. It also seems the place to watch live sports over a drink and a burger with tv screens on each corner of the restaurant yet it is still very family friendly and service has always been impeccable. In my honest opinion I do believe they serve some of the best American dishes around and can even compete with some of London's favourite diners. Wild wings (cajun) x6 Incredibly moreish and can see myself finishing a higher quantity bucket load. The wing sizes were quite average but very succulent and meaty inside. The cajun spices gave it a nice sweet paprika garlicky flavour and latched on well on the crispy skins of the wing showing that they were well fried, Sloppy Joes Ticked all the boxes for a fantastic burger. First that lovely pillow soft brioche bun, slightly charred so it came warm. Then came the rich tender minced beef fried with onions and peppers in there to give it some texture and boost of flavour. The sauce it came with was generous, with lovely rich sweet and and savoury notes keeping everything moist and juicy throughout. Finished off nicely with a fine slice of cheese, melted perfectly to intensify the umami flavours. Full rack ribs A delicious slab of ribs, keeping its meaty texture and flavours which suggest it was slow cooked the full length of time to tenderise and soften the meat. There was no pre cooking the ribs beforehand here. This allowed the rich BBQ coca cola sauce to penetrate through to the bone whilst reducing in liquid to create a rich and sticky coating around the ribs keeping everythign moist and juicy. A nice light creamy coleslaw on the side to cool things off. Curly fries These were perfectly fried. It had that moreish fluffy inside and crispy outside that was coated in the sweet mild spices which you find collapsing on itself as you chew, sending the rush of flavour through each mouthful. I say mouthful as who just pops one in their mouth per bite, not if they are this good. Chilli fries Not the spicy chilli as I imagined but chilli consisting of a wonderful well flavoured mix of red kidney beans, onions and red peppers in a lovely thick tomato slurry that helped bind the sauce and flavours on each and every chip. Drizzled with sour cream to add a lovely creamy consistency. Very wholesome dish. Sloppy suits every occassion whether it's your quick lunch or a celebration feast. Food has always been fantastic and paired with that is it's lovely bright and spacious atmosphere.
