The meaning behind this place is even better. They support the local Teen Challenge Center and employee the girls from there to help them in their journey's to finding their faith and becoming good people. On top of that, they have a great coffee club of older gentlemen that my grandfather attends everyday. They know him well and he helps around the shop. The inside is very warm and inviting. It's like a home that turned into a coffee shop. If you are ever in the area and stop in early you will see the gentleman's coffee club in the corner. To the right of the entrance you can sit in one of the two large, leather couches. Couches look old and could use some updating. Next to the couches you have few chairs and tables. In the middle of the room, they have a large, conference-sized table with eight chairs. They offer a few board games above the table. I've also met the owner several times as ive been coming here for years and he has always been kind, friendly, and welcoming. Unfortunately, my visit today felt very different. I walked in and was not greeted or acknowledged, even though I was standing right in front of the staff. Shortly after, another couple walked in and were immediately greeted by two employees, while I was still standing there without anyone speaking to me until I was asked about my order. As a Black man, that kind of experience is hard to ignore. I cannot say for certain what the reason was, but I can say that I felt overlooked, uncomfortable, and unwelcome. The lady with pink hair did eventually come out and speak to me, and I appreciated that, but the other staff members made the environment feel cold and unfriendly. It's disappointing to feel like the welcoming atmosphere may depend on who is working, or who is walking through the door. I hope this was just a bad day, but it left a bad impression.
