One of the proprietors at our Harvest Host recommended this place -- SO glad he did!…read moreFirst of all....The BANKery?? How cute is this?!? It's in an old bank building on a darling street that you need to stroll down. Once inside, we were mesmerized by the delectable treats in the cases and by the bakers toiling away in front of the open vault doors. We ordered a cinnamon roll (possibly the BEST we have ever had!) and an apple cream cheese danish (FILLED with creamy cheese and apple slices!). We also got a loaf of olive sourdough bread that we had with dinner. So good. Truly wish we had bought more!! The black coffee was smooth and the Mocha Latte was like drinking melted chocolate (perhaps a bit too much for me). Absolutely recommend a stop here even if it's out of your way.

A Skowhegan GEM with Legendary Staff & Pastries!…read more If you're anywhere near Skowhegan and haven't been to The Bankery, stop what you're doing and GO. I walked in expecting a simple treat and walked out with a full heart, a full stomach, and an unforgettable experience. First off, Mackenzie and Grace deserve a standing ovation. Their kindness, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made me feel like family. They handled a full case of French cream horns (yes--12 cream horns with raspberry filling) like total pros, all while smiling and keeping the vibe welcoming and cheerful. I also grabbed a sausage, egg & cheddar croissant, a chocolate croissant, and a strawberry & cream cheese croissant--and every single bite was next-level bakery bliss. Flaky, rich, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the bakers care. Speaking of bakers, I had the pleasure of chatting with Mike, who not only shared his love for baking but gave me a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the building's history and attached theater, which adds a whole layer of cool charm to this already awesome place. I even got to meet Matt, the owner, who was incredibly kind and clearly passionate about his team and community. And yes--this bakery is actually inside a beautiful old bank! Vaults, high ceilings, historic charm--it's like walking into a pastry-filled time capsule. Final verdict: 5 stars all day. This is more than a bakery--it's an experience. I'll absolutely be back, and if you're ever in Richmond, stop by Morning Moose Coffee--we'll do our best to match the same level of amazing service and community spirit that The Bankery delivered.

Maine Grains - A welcoming and disappointing bakery

The cappuccino was underwhelming, but the server was upfront about not knowing the menu well, which I appreciated. I ended up chatting with the pizza maker, who gave great insight into their approach and philosophy. I regretted sitting outside--watching the pizza-making process inside would've been a better experience. That said, the white breakfast pizza was hands down the best I've had in a long time. Fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced, and not overly heavy on dairy, which was a big plus since I'm lactose sensitive. Before I can give a full review, I'll need a few more visits. I'm not sure why it's been review-bombed on Yelp, but it's clear the front-of-house service could use some improvement. The food, though, is promising.

It can be rolled very thin. I found I had to use less water then usual because there is a fair amount of moisture in the flour.

I visited for the first time recently and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience…read more We arrived around 6:00 PM and placed our order right away--two macaroni and cheese dishes and a soup. By 6:45 PM, our food still hadn't come out, and we had to ask for it to be packaged to go so we wouldn't miss a movie across the street. What made this especially frustrating was that there were only two other tables in the restaurant--one already had food, and the other was served while we were still waiting. Because of the delay, our food sat in the car during the movie. When we finally ate later that evening, both macaroni and cheese dishes were extremely disappointing--lacking flavor and ultimately inedible. I brought the soup home to try the next day, and it was just as disappointing. It was mostly potatoes, many of which were undercooked and still crunchy, and I even found what appeared to be a small piece of burnt wood in it. Overall, I spent about $80 on three items that were significantly delayed and very poor in quality. I will say, the ginger cookies were delicious--that was the one highlight. I did reach out privately to give the restaurant an opportunity to respond before posting this review, but did not receive a reply. Really unfortunate experience, especially for a first visit.

My Wife and I went here for dinner and a show for our 45th wedding anniversary. The entire building…read moreneeded work, it was sad to see, dirty windows with bugs in them and if you had a screen in your window it was filled with cobwebs and dead bugs, kinda killed any ambiance of looking out over the lake. You could see that there was a lot of water damage to ceilings and walls that was only partially finished. The entrace / portico to the restaurant, especially the ceiling, was loaded with bug nests and mold. It needed a good pressure washing and fresh paint. The drink menu was fabulous, soo many combinations. The appetizers selection was very nice, we ordered the fried goat cheese with fig jam, it was very tasy. My Wife ordered the pork tenderloin, that was marinated in soy and ginger with sauteed fiddleheads and rice. This was a complete disaster, the pork medalions were so over cooked, as if they were pre cooked and warmed up. If these were cooked to order whomever cooked them should be ashamed. My Wife and I could these often and are always tender, juicy with a hint of pink. These had nothing in common to what we cook at home, not tender and not juicy, the soy ginger was not a marinade but more of a reduction and spooned over the medalions, the salt was so concentrated my Wife ate 2 and could not eat any more. The rice, just plain steamed rice, the fiddleheads were cooked well but had zero flavor, a pitty as they are a blank canvas. I ordered the seafood scampi, I was really looking forward to this as I don't have pasta very often and have not had lobster in a couple of years. The pasta was home made pappardelle, it was more than al dente and was stuck together in clumps. The sauce had little flavor, the scallops were so so, the shrimp were over cooked as was the lobster, we ordered a fruit pie for dessert at intermission, it was mostly crust and, oh the whipped topping, guess what that was........ cool whip . We spent over $160.00. It was a a one and done for us unfortunately. We really wanted it to be better than it was. It could be a really nice venue but needs a lot of work and a seasoned chef who cares about what they do and can direct a young untrained staff.

The roasted Brussel sprouts were yummy as well. The lamb chops were extra gamey tasting, but the risotto was to die for! Truffle tortellini were tasty but dry - the dish really needed at least a light cream sauce or even just a generous drizzle of EVOO... the apps & desserts took the spot light. We ordered desserts from the top secret Speakeasy Menu - grilled peaches w/a divine vanilla marscapone cream and then a decadently delicious turtle lava cake. Service was friendly.
