A busy place, even at 1:00 PM, situated at the corner of Maybank Highway and Bohicket Road. There are two drive through lanes, with only one operating when I came for lunch. We'll, inside I went, after going around the restaurant looking for a parking spot close to the entrance. (Yes, too many folks are wanting the same closeness, which I have not sought on other visits.) The layout of the parking area does not allow for someone to park closer to the entrance way except about six to eight parking spots (all occupied) and that is it, with the remainder of them far on the other side close to the drive-in window where it is probably a bit dangerous to park there and then try and walk through the vehicles backed up for the drive-thru. Horrible planning. Go inside and you are faced with four (4) kiosks where you can input your order and pay with a credit card. The only advantage in doing this is that the last time I was here I found that you can have a small water for free. Yes, for zero cents and zero dollars. As I ordered a chicken sandwich previously which unfortunately had so much mayonnaise oozing out of it that it was getting all over my hands I decided to go for a hamburger. Guess what? Again, there was mayonnaise oozing out. It seems to me that this McDonald's loves slathering thick quantities of mayonnaise, which seems to be what other McDonald's in the chain do. Why waste all that mayo? Ycch! Thus the parking lot layout, the desire for us to use a kiosk and not a human, and the excess mayonnaise certainly is worthy of the loss of at least one star. read more

I rarely go to McDonald's, but stopped by after hearing they were offering pup cups for National Pet Month. When we pulled up to the Johns Island location, we were told they weren't honoring it and would have to drive to James Island instead. We had our dogs in the car and simply asked if they could put a little whipped cream in a cup (nothing complicated) but they refused. For such a small, easy request, this was absurd. My order was incorrect, and when asked to add two items to correct it, two workers at the window gave me an attitude and denied one item to be added back on. Place just stinks. They'll have two drive-thru lanes open with the same person working both so it doesn't speed anything up. The kiosks inside have been broken and not functioning the last 3-4 times I went there. The drive-thru workers are also impatient and they act like its annoying to have to tell you they're out of stock of something (which they're out of stock of everything all the time). we got little notices in our bags a month or so again saying they were refurbishing/reopening and nothing has changed. It's not actually a Drive thru until you have received your items, counted your change and proceed off the property -- I've still not Driven Thru -- fifteen minutes and rising. Deep breaths into and out of the personal bagpipes: The coffee really has improved since the days of those little white non-biodegradable cups with those white stirrers and the white packets of noname sugar. I actually really like this McDonald's location on Maybank on John's Island. They do a really good job for what they are and provide food quickly when you are hungry and need some. The service here has been consistently excellent and my order has arrived quicker than I have expected more times than I thought it would. We have hoped that this place would eventually get the proper training or at least the proper management. Constantly getting orders incorrect, trying to turn it around to seem like the customers are wrong. That "thing" at the drive through is absolutely horrible. There is no excuse for the level of service you receive at this location (Maybank Hwy & Main Rd.) This review is not based off of one bad experience, it's based off of several consistently bad experiences. Before we get into the grit of it, let me say, not all staff members here are bad. However, I do think most here either do not care or have picked up on bad habits from others. The drive thru: More times then not you will always find a orange traffic cone blocking off one of the two drive thru lanes for whatever reason. Maybe it's not working again today or maybe they only want one row of vehicles to cut down on the issues they have. In general... The Drive Thru is a duel ordering set up that alternates vehicles into a single lane for speed and efficiency. While in theory this sounds like a good idea, the design fails at this location. Cashiers often confuse the vehicles and orders. I have on many occasions been asked "what was your order again". Once I pay for my food and advance to the second window, I'm still handed the wrong order. Other times after paying and moving to the second window, I am then asked to pull forward while my food is being made. I'm not impatient by any means but after sitting for 15min waiting on two regular hamburgers I have to wonder if I've been forgotten about or not. The parking lot in general is pretty awful. The pavement shows oily, greasy track marks from the back door to the dumpster and could definitely use a good pressure washing. The shrubbery is over grown in areas and looks like they only care to maintain the bushes right at the entrance ways and near the building itself. Everything else seems to have grown wild and in my opinion seems dangerous. Trash can often be found overflowing from the trash cans and spilling onto the ground. The smell of rotten food hits you in waves as you sit under one of the shade trees outside to enjoy your meal. Did I say loitering? You will almost always see some employee hanging with their friends around the building. I understand people take breaks and go on lunch but I have left and a hour or two later drove back past and see the same group huddled up outside in the same area. It's off putting and looks sketchy. Inside dining: Inside dining is so bad I no longer care to go inside. The tables are often soiled with ketchup, spilled soft drinks, various dipping sauces and who knows what else. I have seen dead bugs in light fixtures, bugs on the window sills and even crawling from napkin dispensers. Over powered by the smell of garbage when dining inside is also common. So disgusting! The restrooms are always, always, always gross. Unflushed toilets and urinals, no hand soap, always out of paper products. You can commonly find human waste on the floor and toilet seats at any given time. The staff: With the exception of a few people, I find the staff to have a very "who cares" kind of attitude. There is a lot of horseplay behind the counter and in the kitchen. I've seen first hand where an employee get in a managers face about something and then it became a loud outburst the entire dining area could hear. If you ask for something after your transaction is finished you normally get someone sucking their teeth at you. Food often takes a long time to come out of the kitchen which ultimately holds up the entire operation and even if you ask about your order, expect some side eye. The Management: The management here is practically non existent. The owner himself pulls up in his sports car and either double parks or parks in the middle of the road making it difficult for patrons to exit the parking lot with ease. I've spoken to this gentleman before in the past because I was short changed and complained about my experience. He pulled the money from the register and slapped it down on the counter top as if it was something I did to him personally.He shows this behavior to his staff and his staff follows his lead. Overall, this McDonalds is in dire need of a intervention. Lots of issues need to be addressed. I question the overall sanitation and that alone is enough to keep me away from this location. I would like to see several "unannounced" visits from McDonalds corporate office in the future to see and address what is happening at this location. I love McDonald's and enjoy reviewing them too for some reason. I guess I want to have a massive McDonald's review list. Wouldn't it be amazing to have reviewed 100 McDonalds'? Have driven by here a billion times but finally stopped here last week. First off, the staff was very friendly. They had switched to lunch 10 minutes ago but switched the menu back to breakfast because my dad said he was disappointed we missed breakfast. There was a huge picture of a sausage biscuit on a billboard earlier in the drive and we had been salivating for one. So that was very nice of them. Even nicer, they let me get a sausage biscuit with a side of fries in place of the grossio hashbrown with no extra charge. I also liked how they actually mixed the cream into my coffee instead of handing me half-and-halfs. I don't mind putting the half-and-half in myself, but it was nice to not have to. Another plus! The inside seating arrangement was really small and weird, and for some reason my sausage biscuit did not taste as good as the one I usually get at the McDonald's near my work in DC. I came here after running the Kiawah Marathon. At first the experience was okay... but after I checked the bag for my food I noticed that there were no sauces and one of our french fries was missing. So I asked the woman at the window for some sauces and told her that we were missing a fry, no big deal, people make mistakes. She gave me the dirtiest look i had ever received and went and got who I assumed to be her manager. He walked up and looked at me like I was insane. So i told him "Hey I'm sorry to bother you but we ordered 3 meals and we only have 2 fries." He then said to me "Calm the f*ck down. Stop acting like that". This is UNACCEPTABLE. I was in no way disrespectful or demanding I just wanted the fries and to be on my way. After giving us our fries we left. We checked the bag... NO STRAWS. My daughter ordered the 2 cheeseburger meal with a sprite. She was starving after running that morning so she decided to go ahead and have one of her burgers in the car. When she opened up the wrapper there was a bun and a patty, no toppings, no condiments, NOTHING but a bun and a patty. She opens the second burger to also find no topping and no condiments. I normally wouldn't write a review like this because I don't know what's going on in someone's personal life or if they had a really awful customer before me but this treatment was ridiculous. I don't stop in at McDonalds often but the in laws wanted a fish sandwich when we ran into town from the tea plantation. We thought we old stop in here quick since we were in a hurry. Oops this was a slow cooked meal. It took over 10 minutes to get our fish n nuggets for the little one. The guy at the counter then leave them sit after they were in the warmer like he forgot. Then he places them in a bag and drops the bag to the floor. No comment from us since we just wanted to go. It wasn't all that cheap either at $3.50 when 2 up north go for that price. I visited this restaurant around 9:30 for dinner. I was the second car in drive thru. We waited in drive thru for ten minutes in which I observed the drive thru employee conversations with another associate in the dining area ignoring us completely. I proceeded to to the next window. She came and then told me I must go back around and she will take my order. For the sake of the argument I did ask she asked and went back around. She took another 10 minutes to actually acknowledge me and the. Took my order. Got to the window and paid and got the food. I checked the bag and left. I came back because after checking my bag I saw that my order was burnt and my chicken San which was thrown together with half the condiments on the side of the sandwich. I came thru the drive thru again and no one answered in the 10 minutes I waited. I went to the first window and no one answered again. Got to the second window and there is a young man standing there with headphones oblivious to whats going on. I got out my car and knocked on the window to get his attention. He came and I politely told him my frustration is not with you. I just want a refund for my food in which I handed him the food back. He asked for the receipt and I gave it to him. They then proceeded to murmur in the back that they don't give refunds and locked the window. I called the police and had to have the officer get involved for them to at least give me my receipt back and now they tell the officer that I can get a refund from the manager in the morning. This situation aint even that serious but your employees have poor customer service. Had she just acknowledged me from the beginning or just told me I could have gotten a refund in the morning I would have been fine with that. She refused to rectify any of the issues and refused to return the food or the receipt until the officer involved and refused to even come to the window. She had children come to the window and speak for her. I have a lot of patience with fellow food workers because Ive held similar positions and understand some customers truly are assholes but she is an insufferable inept worker. Ive never had problems with this location until now. They even closed the store an hour and a half early because she refused to acknowledge me or give me a refund.
