It's McDonald's, so don't go in expecting Michelin Star level food. The food is cooked well and tastes exactly like any other McDonald's in the country, which is the most important thing. Prices are great considering you are in Hawaii. Fairly close to the cost of most mainland major cities (NYC, Chicago, etc). For reference, a regular Oreo McFlurry will run you $4.91 without the app. You can also get a 20 pc. chicken nugget for $5.99 with the app, so definitely use that. Did a curbside pickup yesterday Friday June 3rd around 3pm. Thought I was going to be pleased. Haha wasI wrong. It began good with easy order and delivery with curbside. But that's where it ended. Before leaving curbside did my normal check that all items were there. Yeah every item accounted for. Went backto my mother's where my daughter and I were visiting for the evening after helping her do her first of the month household food and essentials shopping as she is household bound. Dish out the order(which my mother was graish to provide). Sat down prayed and began to eat. Wow what a shock my daughter's quarter pounder meal had the quarter pound hamburger missing from the bun. (Who would of thought that when I checked that that all items were in the curbside pickup that I should have opened each item and I specter for quality). Anyway too late to go back to the hilo store downtown to fix it. So my elderly mom living on social security with no snap assistant ancestors offered my daughter the option of using her food supply of hamburger for the month to cook a burger for the bun from from her quarter pounder meal. My daughter out of respect for her elders and understanding g how hard it is to budget fiancee said no thank you. My daughter bite I to the what was now essentially a bun with cheese and choked. She managed to spit it out. I made sure she was alright and cleaned her and the food mess up. So her grandmother my elderly mother gave my daughter her food of chicken nuggets. I cried. My mother's once a month budget to eat out was ruined and she sacrificed her dinner for the night to feed her granddaughter. That should not happen. I could not let my mom not have a dinner. So Iwet to my car where I had a few groceries of my own from our shopping day and grabbed a few things and made some spaghetti. I loved seeing my mom smile and enjoy the pasta. So I say complete thumbs down, half a star rating to McDonald's downtown Hilo Hawaii. Next month I will treat my mom and daughter to a wonderful meal out that doesn't include mcdonalds. In fact my family decided to boycott McDonald's for at least this month the next 30 days then we will review and see if 30 days is enough time to waste a dollar on McDonald's. Gone to this McDonald's twice this week. The first time the worker just straight ignored half our order and didn't even put it on the order after clarifying three times to try to make sure it was right... it was still wrong. The second time we asked for plain cheeseburgers, were given cheeseburgers with everything on the after again clarifying many times to make sure they were right. And again some of our order was still missing. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but the same thing keeps happening over and over again and the store was not busy either time we were there. They're just negligent and don't truly care to do their jobs, the older people who work there I've never had a problem with but all the younger ones just simply don't care to do their jobs. read more

It just started and for a limited time only. Haven't had a Big Mac in years until this evening. Finished the first one and it tastes like how I remembered it used to be. It looks a little smaller especially in regards to the size of their burger patties but one Big Mac is filling enough to get by, at least for me. I noticed most of the franchised fastfood locations have a really low rating on Yelp. I do understand why but then at the same time, we cant expect a 5 star service from these places, too. I dont know why this McDonalds have a such a low rating but Ive never had any bad experiences here. I have only went inside once and my usual visits are drive-thrus. The wait can be ridiculously long especially during lunch and dinner but on the other times, its pretty reasonable. The workers here are hardworking and I havent seen any rude ones either. My wife and I ate here many times while vacationing...the cheapest place to eat on the island! HUGE TIP: Use the APP when placing your order, because you can get mainland prices! When you were a kid eating that $0.59 hamburger, you wanted to move up to the Happy Meal. When you were at that Happy Meal stage of your life, you wanted to graduate to a Mighty Kids Meal. Nowadays, you would be lucky if a #1 Big Mac combo fills you up. That thing is small but delicious! All in all, this is a pretty legit McDonald's. Come here for a quick bite! The staff is friendly and the lobby is kept clean. This place has been recently renovated as well. The lines can get pretty ridiculously long though but hey, if you can't wait for fast-food, maybe you should become one of those people who blends their food into liquid form. Patience is a virtue. I don't understand why this McDonalds' has such a low rating but it was great. I'm from California and let me tell you!! The McDonalds' fries and nuggets were fried to perfection. Crispy and golden brown outside and warm inside. The apple pie was fried to a beautiful flaky texture and had a comfortable warm filling. This McDonald's used to suck, it was all dirty and stuff. Now that they remodeled it, it looks nice and you can use screens to order and customize your orders as well. Most of the time its crowded so it's kinda hard to get a seat and the drive thru is long as. I ordered off the screen and not in person so I'm not too sure on how the customer service is, but it's probably decent. It didn't take too long to get the food even tho there was plenty of people. I came here to try the Hawaiian-style McDonald's breakfast that I heard so much about. I was under the impression that they had breakfast sandwiches, but with Portuguese sausage, spam etc. instead of regular breakfast sausage, or bacon. Turns out perhaps the only Hawaiian thing was this Hawaiian platter which was basically eggs, spam and Portuguese sausage. No problem, I asked if we could order a Hawaiian platter thing and an egg mcmuffin, and if they could put the Portuguese sausage from the platter onto my sandwich for me. No? OK, no problem, let's just order the platter and mcmuffin and I will put it on myself. We get back to the table with our food only to find that they gave me a mcmuffin with no meat, and the platter with no Portuguese sausage. WTF? So I go up there and tell them that we're missing the sausage, and they basically tell me "you didn't order the sausage!" Well then what was the whole point of talking about the sausage on the sandwich, and then you giving me a mcmuffin with no meat, if I wasn't going to take the sausage from the platter? Idiots. Honestly, it wouldn't have been that bad if they weren't so negative. Can I have a mcmuffin with Portuguese sausage? Answer: NO. (Just no.) Can I order a platter and mcmuffin and you put it on? Answer: NO. (Just no.) At least be helpful. Say something like "We don't have mcmuffins with Portuguese sausage but you can buy the platter and put it on the sandwich yourself." Look. I know it's McDonald's. I know I can't expect it to be amazing here every time. But here's the thing. I should be able to expect certain things at even the worst fast food restaurant. I should be able to get a water cup without having to jump through all the hoops of buying a normal cup and asking them to fill it in the drive thru because they turned off the water in the dining room. I asked for some sauce for my $25 order and they refused wanting me to pay for the sauces. I have been to this McD more times in the last couple weeks than I've been to any McD on the mainland for the last year! lol My dad and I have been playing role-reversal...and he has insisted on coming here during my visit. I personally do like their offering of Passionfruit Iced Tea and the fact that I can get local fare like Portuguese Sausage/Eggs/Spam/Rice breakfast and an occasional Taro Pie or Fruit Punch (because we definitely don't get that on the mainland!). However, this last couple weeks I have had fun getting my Iced Tea in the "Aloha" cups (limited time offer) and trying to collect favorite sayings like "Mahalo" and "Howzit" (although I still wasn't able to get my hands on a "Bruddah" cup!). This McD only gets 3 stars because today I went to get my usual Aloha Cup...and got a regular cup instead...even though they had all the promos up still! This McDonalds has been here for awhile but somehow wasn't on Yelp. It is conveniently located off highway 11 near Kta store and Sack n Save store. They have a decent size eating area inside, and no outside seating. The great thing about this McDonalds is that there drive through is open 24 hours a day. They have all of the food and McCafe drinks that most of the McDonalds now have. We like going there for the Coffee drinks or the smoothies. Good price and location. read more

My two daughters and I are here in Hilo, Hawaii visiting family. We tried ordering McDonald's off the app and it did not work. My 19 year old daughter called McDonald's to see if she could just order on the phone. The employee who picked up the phone had not taken our order seriously and continued to be very rude towards my daughter. My daughter asked to speak to the manager. Instead of getting to talk to the manager she was told she was not old enough. Then the employee decided to make it better by cussing at my daughter and asking her about her race in a very rude way.
