It was a beautiful evening, so we decided to sit outside on their patio. Shouldn't admit it...but we had to ask our waitress what the lettering was on the side of the building (see picture) - but hay, we are near Drake. Following a Lucky Casa Margarita (see picture), we ordered our meals. My wife ordered the Dogtown Burger w/ Onion Rings (see picture) and I went with the Boneless Wings w/ Blueberry BBQ sauce (see picture). As is our modus operandi, we shared tastes of each and both thoroughly enjoyed both plates. While me wife isn't usually a big berry sauce person, she agreed that the wings were very good. Unfortunately, I was too full to sample one of the awesome looking desserts on the menu...so that will be the reason for another stop! What really stands out is that he genuinely listens to his customers. If something isn't quite right or you have a suggestion, Mr. Fox takes the time to hear you out and looks for ways to make things better. The Groggy Dog also does a great job keeping things interesting with its beer selection. The beers on tap are always changing, giving you a chance to try something different each time you visit. Whether you have a favorite or want to branch out and try something new, there's usually something worth checking out. I really appreciate that they don't just stick with the same lineup--they keep things fresh and give customers a reason to come back and see what's new. Between the great food, rotating beer selection, and the way Bob genuinely cares about his customers and his business, The Groggy Dog is the kind of place that feels less like a restaurant and more like a local gathering spot. You can tell there's a lot of pride and hard work behind what they do, and it shows.

First, it was Fall graduation weekend at Iowa State University 8 miles up the road, so the place was packed. We stopped in the bar for a drink, and I ordered a Manhattan up. It was very well made, and reasonably priced. In less than 45 minutes, we got our table. Flight has a variety of specialty smash burgers, and I chose the Crown Wagyu Burger. It's a double Wagyu patty smash burger with smoked gouda, hot pepper bacon jam, arugula, caramelized onion aioli + onion haystack. It was a fantastic burger, and the fries I had as a side were very nice too. The service was swift and friendly, and it was an overall great experience. The building itself is very clean With just the right lighting. It's got kind of an industrial look to it, and it is a nice space.
