This is a typical McDonald's franchise. You've got the mobile kiosks and then the two traditional sever registers (which are usually empty). Most McD's have transitioned to have customers pay with the self-kiosk, and it totally makes sense for a college town. Service is pretty fast. You get your order within 5-10 minutes, depending on how many things you order. What was odd though was them shutting off their mobile order before they closed, which subsequently disabled all customers from using any promos or rewards. I was hoping to redeem a coupon for $1 fries and could not use it all... Kinda disappointing when we all know McD's is expensive without the coupons. In any case, servers were okay. I came in towards closing time and they surprisingly still had their slushie machine running. The girl was nice enough to give me my slushie, so I didn't end up leaving empty handed. Location had plenty of tables for college students and patrons to dine in. Parking is a bit limited, but otherwise good if you're walking from campus to eat here. read more

Sadly this place keeps declining in service and hospitality. Whatever image McDonald's portrays in their advertisements and commercials is the complete opposite here. They are rude , confrontational, hateful attitude. The staff here hate working here and it shows with how they act. This place is depressing. Come here for yourself anytime of the day. My kids love the seasonal toys and I live right down the street so of course I'm here all the time. Decided to spontaneously try a Big Mac for the first time in my life (embarrassing yes) and came across this Mcdonalds during a Franklin St walk. Ordering was easy through the massive tablets, my food came out quick, and honestly it was pretty good! I think low rankings for Mcdonald's are a bit dramatic because it's a fast food chain and you kinda know what you're getting into! I'd say it was an overall good experience! Do not eat at this McDonald's. My son parked here and was going to eat. He dropped off his dry cleaning at place next door and walked back (gone all of 2 minutes). Tow truck blocked in my son and said the McDonald's manager had alerted him (who was waiting in back). My son was going to get lunch after dropping off dry cleaners. He stepped away for 2 minutes. This facility lacks appropriate signage in their parking lot. Only one side of the lot is labeled "McDonald's Parking Only"; the other side of the lot lacks signage but conveniently appears to be a shared lot with the restaurant beside it. NOT A SHARED LOT! Your car will promptly be towed by the towing truck parked next McDonalds, waiting for someone to make the mistake. My car was towed, and I had to pay a $600 fee from Barnes Towing to get it back - after only leaving it for less than an hour in the lot. On the phone, I told the lady that there is no signage in the area and provided a picture to which she responded "you should have inferred." I personally know two other people who have made the same mistake and been towed due to lack of signage AT THIS MCDONALDS. It is ILLEGAL to tow cars from a parking space that isn't clearly designated! This is illegal! read more

So, we did not eat at this McDonalds. What we saw happening in the parking lot caused us to stop in our tracks. We drove in and noticed a scooter there, with a confederate flag on the back of it. This was a big flag, on a tree branch, flying in back of the scooter. We parked and then noticed that a black man also noticed the flag and walked up to the scooter and pulled it off the scooter, which caused the scooter to fall over. Please understand that this scooter was totally scratched up, and taped together on one side. So a guy comes over and picks the bike up, collects the confederate flag from the black guy and then goes inside the McDonalds. (We have video from this point) We were SHOCKED when he came out with a McDonalds employee who was the owner of this bike. So this scooter with a confederate flag, sits in this McDonalds lot all day. We went in to talk to the manager who told us they didn't like it but they couldn't do anything about it. But the OWNER of this McDonalds could. But has not!! So then the owner of the scooter calls the police and wants to press charges. First of, if you're going to put bait like that out in a parking lot in a busy fast food restaurant, you KNOW it's going to inflame people. I mean that's the whole point right? I think it's irresponsible and absurd that the owner of this McDonalds right on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, lets this guy work at their restaurant. It's a sensitive time in America and there is NO place for any sort of racism much less a big display of it for everyone to see as they come to eat. Do not visit this McDonalds location on Franklin Street. It appears the employees might be running a racket with the local towing company to impound cars for a kick back. We parked, ordered and ate in the restaurant and then briefly walked across the street to another store. In less than 20 minutes our car was towed. We returned and showed our receipt to the manager, but our car had already been towed. We were shocked at the outrageous towing fee and the absurdly rude behavior by the female employee at McDonalds. McDonald's - Why? - Fast Food Near Me - Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Tried to call the McDonalds several times and no one answers the phone. There is a towing service that camps out in their parking lot waiting to trap anyone that leaves their car there. My 19 yr old parked there to get a frozen fruit drink at a nearby store and then was going to pick up dinner at McDonalds. She was gone 3 MINUTES from her car. When she got back to the car, the tow company had just put steel bars down, but hadn't done anything else or attached any hook to the car. She had to pay $140 cash to have him remove the steel bar from behind her wheels. When she told him she was picking up food at McDonalds (for the drive home), he said it didn't matter...she "left the parking lot and it didn't matter if she was also going to be a customer of McDonalds". Now, McDonalds will lose our business for the next three years because of this parking lot policy. I understand that they want to keep their spaces open for their customers, but she had not finished her food shopping and she was going to be their customer for dinner. This McDonalds needs to change their towing rule because it is ridiculous!!! This incident also triggered a panic attack, which could have turned into a medical emergency! Food is normally hot but definitely not always. Slow as all could be though. Employees including the manager are not so friendly. So basically just eat here if you have the time to wait around. Why would anyone bother to rate a McDonald's on Yelp? I mean, aren't they all the same? Not really. This one stands out to me. The people who work at this particular McDonalds are always smiling and are very nice. The food is consistently good, and there is no better place for sweet tea in town, in my opinion, especially for $1 large sweet teas. Even when they are busy, they usually can get you in and out quickly. The only improvement needed at this McDonald's is a line to keep people in a queue. It is often hard to tell who has ordered and is just waiting for their food, and who is next, especially when there are a lot of people. read more

So this McDonalds is nice-looking, I'll give it that. But when you consider the prices up against some of the other places up and down Franklin, and when it closes, I'll take my chances elsewhere. I mean, McD's closes before Time-Out, Cosmic Cantina, Pita Pit, and I Love New York Pizza, all places you can probably get a better deal on food. And let's not forget Carrboro Wendy's, a magical place that has value-related foods (something this McDs seems to have less of. I feel weird Yelp-reviewing a McDonalds...I hate fast food, but when I'm in a hurry I sometimes come here. The management is very friendly and professional. Many of the staff members are bilingual which is really great for some of the clientele. Not everyone in Chapel Hill can afford more expensive food at other establishments. I genuinely get the vibe that the management takes their job seriously and they seem to work really hard. Yes, they will tow cars but towing company goes through the restaurant and asks people which cars they own (I've seen this happen twice). The only weird thing about this place is that there is no mirror in the men's restroom. This used to be a ghetto, run down and dirty-feeling Mcdonalds restaurant with a horrible design. Over this summer, though, the entire restaurant was renovated as part of the McCafe thing that Mcdonalds is now doing. You can call it a complete transformation: Everything is new, the dining areas are well designed enough to hold a lot of people while still giving everybody privacy and comfort. I had a customer deliver to pick up and went inside. When I got into the restaurant it was picked. Apparently one of the machines had broken. I know this because one of the employees mentioned it to another employee. No one from the staff said anything to the customers about what was going on. Customers were just standing there waiting for their food. About 10 minutes I ask the young lady at the front to check on my customer order. So I guess it wasn't pitched in or however they do the orders so she said she would fix it. After another 15 minutes I got the managers attention and said I've been here for like 25 minutes. The manager cut me off while a was talking and said other people were here here you were. As I started talking again a lady comes up beside me and the manager started talking to her completely ignoring me. I kindly called the store explaining to explain my issue but I was greeted with a very rude and nonsolante employee. As I was about to explain the issue, she didn't even apologize or even ask me if she could rectify the situation. I had to explain myself several times because she kept cutting me off in the middle if my sentence.
