Well, turns out that sign got hit by a truck a year or so ago and has been replaced. We learned this after juggling our agenda to come here a day later since they were closed on Sunday. The new sign is cool, but not vintage. But I do like me some snappy service. Years ago we went to a restaurant called Brown's Snappy Service. It possibly started some of our infatuation with places like this with cool signs and history posted all over the walls. We had burgers for breakfast at Ferrell's before 10 a.m. Because why not? The tiny cafe has about seven stools, and both staff and patrons were nicely hospitable and enjoyable to visit with. Also, turns out my dad was at nearby Fort Campbell for basic training, and that sparked some nice conversation with him once I shared where we were that night. I also chose Guiness Mac and cheese as a side! This Mac and cheese had the Guiness flavor to it with a whole lot of cheesiness! Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! The service was a little slow but friendly! For the meatballs, Mac and cheese, and gravy - that is what you want from here. The rest was good too but those three items really made The Local feel welcoming to an out of towner like myself.

I sat right at the counter and got to watch them prepare their masterpiece of a burger no shortcuts, just skill, rhythm, and a whole lot of love for what they do. It's like a little burger symphony behind that grill. One heads-up: it's cash-only, so swing by an ATM before you go. If you forget (like I did), they've got one on site, so you're covered. The only downside? I live eight hours away, which makes return trips a serious commitment. If I lived closer, I'd be there every week without question. Absolutely worth the stop and every single star.
