I mean the McDouble like a mac was phenomenal, but the poutine was sub-par with just a spit of gravy. Still love you though

I guessed either this place was good or there ain't much options in Salmon Arm. Why two stars? The food was not that good and the tables were quite tight. People kept bumping my chair when they walked behind me. Not sure why they could not walk on the other side of our table which didn't have anyone sitting there. It was quite annoying. The service could also be better. Our water glasses were not topped up unless we flagged down our server. I had the halibut burger which sounded amazing in the description. Poached in white wine and served with lime aioli. Unfortunately the fish was on the dry side and I barely discerned any wine at all. The saving grace was the yam fries which I upgraded for 1/2 Caesar salad and 1/2 yam fries at $3 more. Those were good. Very small portion of the Caesar salad though. My travel partner didn't like the fried chicken burger at all. The chicken was hard and dry. The server gave extra chipotle Mayo sauce but it didn't help much. Popeyes chicken burger was way better. Overall this was quite a disappointing meal. Maybe people come here for the beer only.

It's definitely not traditional Malaysian Laksa, but the sauce was pretty rich and I'm fine with the interpretation. The daily pasta special was a carbonara with crispy pancetta. Done pretty well. The pancetta was on point, slightly salty but still crispy and great texture. The sauce was nice, not too rich. I know my wife raved about the daily salmon special. Excellent potatoes - crispy on outside but creamy and soft on the inside. Great place to come to for some fine dining while skiing here. Beware it's pricey though.

At night, they moved it up one notch to even nicer fare. Atmosphere was dark and cozy, with a roaring fire and couch at one end. Generous booths lined the outside walls. A small stage was setup for live music. A perfect spot for tired skiers to strip off their outer layers and stay awhile -whether it be lunch or an après ski snack and cocktail. For us, it didn't hurt that it was only a few steps away from the ski school pickup area. And they had a kid's menu. No menu on the table here; It was written on a giant chalkboard surrounding the door and was ever-changing, apart from a few mainstays. Burgers, wraps and sandwiches were excellent and the soup was phenomenal. On my first lunch visit I had a glorious seafood chowder (with big chunks of local salmon) and a few days later a delicious potato-leek soup, one of the best I've ever had. Beers on tap were limited to just four from a local brewery, Okanagan Springs. I tried both the pale ale and black lager - both very good. Beyond that there was a decent bottled beer and wine list. I didn't get a chance to try any well drinks. With a free pass on Valentine's evening, my wife and I snuck in for dinner here, reservations made, but not really needed. My steak was good, though on the tough side. My wife's squash risotto was perfect and very satisfying. Wyndham Estates Winery was there handing out generous tasting samples for everyone. The only disappointing moment was at dessert time - no chocolate! Being Valentine's day, with nice Shiraz flowing freely, a complete lack of chocolate on the menu constituted a major fail in my book. Though considering they are still basically a pub at heart, I don't feel justified reducing their rating based on this one issue. The Den was an especially fun place with the Winter Olympics going in nearby Vancouver, with 3 widescreen TVs showing the coverage. Canadian flags were hung everywhere, and the staff were all sporting "Go-Canada-Go" t-shirts. At one point, when Canada won a gold medal, the staff announced everyone would get a free round. We gladly participated.
