Weekend motorcycle ride to Steinhatchee/Jena for lunch, we decided to stop at McDavids cafe at the bridge on the Steinhatchee side. There was already motorcycles/ trikes out front, so that was a good sign. I haven't eaten here since it was owned by a previous owner. Maybe 20 plus years ago. I ordered a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries, and Dawn had a club with sweet potato fries. Everything was cooked to near perfection and our waiter Zach was attentive and responsive. The ambiance is nice and quaint with plenty of room for several people. I grew up in Steinhatchee/ Rocky Creek, so it was nice to be reminded of home and the old fishing village atmosphere. We saved McDavid's Café for our last day, and I'm so glad we did. I had been hearing great things about their donuts, and they absolutely lived up to the reviews. The donut was excellent--definitely homemade, served warm, and so good. They don't offer a big variety, just a glazed donut and donut holes, but what they do make, they do very well. For breakfast, I had my usual: three eggs over medium, grits, bacon, and a biscuit. Everything was very good, and the biscuit was especially outstanding--one of the best biscuits I've had in a long time. The owner even came out to check on us and make sure everything was good, which made the experience even better. I would highly recommend this place. I only wish we had eaten here a few more times during our trip. We will definitely be back when we're in the area. read more

The service was very good, Anne Marie got us our drinks and kept them filled, also this is a family owned place. We had the pleasure of Ashley, whose husband is owner waiting on us and you can tell this is a great place as it was very busy. All the staff were great and helpful. The food was very delicious and Ashley got us a free donut hole to try. Oh my gosh was it good.. I had biscuits and gravy, with hash browns and scrambled eggs, excellent.. this is such a cute place I had to take pics. After Manatee Springs I was craving some southern comfort food and was not disappointed. I got the biscuits and gravy and my boyfriend got the patty melt with fried okra. I visited this local Southern cuisine while I was working in town with the law firm helping homeowners with the recent hurricane that hit , upon arrival, I was greeted by a local customer ( sitting in lobby ) which I thought was cute because you don't see that in bigger cities. I loved the energy in here . I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical walking over to this restaurant as a minority woman. I was greeted with a warm smile from Ashley and that just made my day , the food was delicious, I got chicken wrap and I ate every bit of it . Overall , I highly recommend this local hidden gem ! The food - husband ordered loaded fries and I ordered Philly cheesesteak. Both were ordinary. We bought 2, $3 donuts to go. Absolutely not worth it. Again very ordinary, Dunkin is better. The service - it was chaotic. No idea which person was our server. Several different people took the order, brought the drinks, food, bill, cleaned up. We didn't find this gem till day 4/5 of our trip, so we ate here day 4 AND 5! Everything in this town feels like home and McDavid's was no different. We sat ourselves and had their coconut iced coffee delivered in what felt like seconds. We had two waitresses helping us and had what we needed before we could even think to need it. I'm not a donut person, in fact, it's the ONE dessert I can easily say no to, but we figured they were famous for their donuts so we ordered them. And then ordered more. And then took a box to go. The good thing is there is an enclosed outdoor seating area which was able to accommodate all of us They didn't flinch. Food came out in a timely order. We ordered our food to go and while it was mid morning and a super busy time it took about 45 minutes for our order to be prepared. The restaurant was a small quaint place. Passed by this place on the way to go out scalloping and was asked by our party to stop in and grab donuts. I didn't know what to expect because I've never been to this area before. Walked in and ordered them from the front counter, the lady turned around and pulled them directly out of the oven. Had to try one while it was warm when I got in the car and let me tell you these things were phenomenal. The texture was perfect, Not as fluffy as the chain donut store, but Just the right thickness to be extremely moist. The only flavor they have is glazed and it was literally the perfect balance of sweetness. Still sweet enough to be a glazed doughnut but you could also taste the saltiness and bread flavor of the dough. I have to be honest, I'm glad I don't live too close to this place because these donuts and probably become an addiction. read more
