If you're going to open the first brewery in a town that has been dry for almost 100 years (in case…read moreyou were wondering why Argyle Brewing is one town over...) you'd better do it right. And this place does it more than right. Opening in November shortly after the ordinance allowing alcohol sales in the town, Highlander brews excellent beers served in a lovely setting. Billing themselves as a "farm to pint" brewery, Highlander is situated on a beautiful, sprawling farm, where they grow their own hops and barley (used in their own products as well as to produce malt for themselves and to sell to other local brewers). While they have a cool indoor taproom, the current Covid restrictions naturally mean that outdoor seating with food options are the current setting, which only allows you to enjoy their excellent beer with a lovely outdoor view. I tried the Fir Baby, a hazy ale with that might be a great option for people who dislike the overpowering hophead IPAs--the beer featured the unique touch of fir tips from farm Christmas trees in lieu of/to supplement traditional hops, creating an interesting flavor profile. The other beer I tried was simply excellent, a Brown Maple Ale. Now I love brown ales and I love maple syrup, but offerings like this always make me a little nervous, as I fear they inevitably turn out too sweet. Not this, which had a wonderful beer flavor with just that slight maple hint at the end--according to the brewer, the maple is added in fermentation and not after. At any rate, it was subtle and wonderfully done. My friend tried the Blonde Ale and the Strawberry Rhubarb Blonde and enjoyed them both. Diverse beer offerings (a couple of IPAs on the menu as well), all reasonably priced and most in the 5-6.5% ABV range. Would have liked to try a stout, but they said they usually feature those more in the winter than the summer, which is understandable. The food truck was a nice touch--if it's not just a Covid tack-on, I think it would be a great idea to keep. Having a few options (such as the tasty mozzarella sticks) to try with the beer was a nice touch, and probably kept us there a bit longer. Staff was friendly--our server Nicole was great and knowledgeable about the beers, and as mentioned, one of the owners, Jeff, swung by to ask how we were enjoying everything and discuss the beers and ingredients with us. Also as mentioned, a very lovely setting to enjoy a beer. A bit tough to get to/off the main road, but the trip--and the beer--is certainly worth it.

They offer coffee & espresso drinks, tea, draft beer, bottle beers, ciders, seltzers, wine, and soft drinks. For food, they served up bistro fare including baked goods, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, quiche, soups, salads, wings, flatbreads, pizza, lasagna, mac & cheese, quesadillas, and desserts. They offer full service dining and takeout and online ordering (prices higher in Clover). The place has a nice inviting relaxed atmosphere with exposed brick walls, shiny wood floors, oriental rugs, bar counter seating, high top table seating, couches & coffee tables. I stopped by Falcons recently for a late lunch and decided to eat in. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine ($10 plus tax) and the Mac & Cheese ($9 plus tax) with an ice water. My food was served to me in about 12 minutes after ordering. The portions of food were very good for the price. The Quiche Lorraine were 2 slices of quiche which were very dense with pieces of ham in a rich cheese & egg blend in a flaky crust, a bit of a saltier flavor. The Mac & Cheese had firm cavatappi macaroni smothered in a rich cheese sauce. I finished much of the food ordered, but I needed a small box for the extra slice of quiche, which I enjoyed for breakfast the next day. Overall, I enjoyed a nice filling lunch at Falcons Brewhouse with friendly service. I was also told that the menu here is evolving and changing with the charcuterie board being discontinued. I noted that the in-restaurant menu prices were significantly lower than the Clover prices for online ordering. You can call in your order for takeout and pay the lower in-restaurant prices.

But each of their tasting rooms has its own positives. The big one here is their parking lot - which is literally big (and free!). It's also family (kid) friendly, though that also means it can get very noisy. There's lots of open space available in nice weather. The afternoon I went, it was very busy, and I overheard one employee tell one customer that they were busier than anticipated. But every single person there was working their tail off. Food and drink still came out quickly and with a smile and friendly conversation. Be aware that the hallway for staff exiting the kitchen is also the space towards the rest rooms, so be sure to give those folks the right of way. I'm still going through their beer list in both places, and the list in this South Glens Falls location is extensive. Their food has always been high quality as well. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner with your drinks.

If you want to sit at the bar you get a great view of the chefs at work preparing your meal. If you want a cozier experience, sit in the comfortable seating in the rear of the restaurant. Our server was very attentive but chill and knowledgeable. We got the Utica greens to share as an appetizer, a cocktail and Mad Max local beer, then a burger with hand cut fries and a chicken stuffed poblano. Dessert was a passion fruit chocolate tart which we took to go. If you're looking for well crafted food with a creative twist, this place is a great choice. I had to ask the waitress what it was. She said they use pressed chicken in strips. Why? Literally would take minutes to grill a nice piece of chicken. Why would you use pre-made dried chicken strips that look like jerky? The large amount of tzatziki isn't going to resurrect it no matter how much you put on. I've eaten at excellent Greek restaurants and have never had jerky strip chicken. Fresh is best. The cole slaw was good but also way overboard on the creamy consistency. My real pet peeve is the ladies room. What on earth are those ridiculously small sinks supposed to do? The men's room had normal sinks. I don't know who designs women's room stalls but they are either idiots or sadists. How can anyone think 'you know what would be great? Let's design the women's stalls so they need to hike their skirts up & straddle the toilet to get the door shut!!' Are these architects? Engineers? Who approves these idiotic plans? It's so annoying! Overall, the beer and the servers were great. As a rule, food should be recognizable, fresh and tasty.
