The Tall Man and I came during semi-off hours, first for a late lunch and later for an afternoon snack/drink. They have a large outside deck with a great view of the lake, but we opted to sit in their cozy dining room both times. We visited with baby in tow, first with a stroller and once without. The accessible entrance was not very obvious (we noticed it only after our second visit) and it was covered in snow. There are several steps leading to the porch and main entrance. The host was gracious enough to find a table that could fit a stroller next to it, but that was made easier by our off-hours visit. The staff is very friendly and most are pretty fluent in both English and French. We ordered in French the first time around, but by our second trip our language skills and brains were a bit worn out, so we were thankful our server cheerfully switched to English. They all gave us great recommendations, and everything we had was quite tasty. Think elevated brewpub than bar food. Drinks-wise, the Tall Man equally enjoyed La Pointe Merry (IPA) and La Kilt (Scotch ale). I opted for their non-alcoholic options and was happy with my Quebec-made kombucha and gin and tonic mocktail. Both came in cans or bottles, and I ended up taking the rest of my kombucha to go. Instead of ordering full entrees, we opted for a spread of small plates. The cod bites (bouchées de morue) were excellent, crisply fried with soft, flaky fish inside and a killer dipping sauce. The kiddo is just starting to eat solid foods and quite enjoyed the fish. The onion rings (nounounes rings) were also a hit. We also enjoyed the duck drumlettes (pilons de canard) and the fries (frites). Note the fries are made French style and not crispy (as opposed to what's usually served in American restaurants ironically as "French" fries). We will definitely be back! I did eat gluten on this trip as a periodic treat, but am usually gluten free. They didn't seem to have too many GF options on their menu, but I would come back to try their entrees and see if I could make it work.

The servers a bartenders were very friendly and accommodating and made sure the food I ordered was safe for me to eat, due to food allergies. I tried the local hockey mom seltzer which was tasty and not too sweet. For my meal I had the maple cider pork chop which was the perfect portion and delicious. The pork was tender and the glaze was the perfect touch. The home made apple sauce was a nice addition and was so fresh. Finally the garlic green beans were a top choice to round out this dinner. If we have time we will go back because apparently they have the best burger in town and it sells out everyday.

You have to get your own water and it took forever to get our food. The poutine was so so and again, luke warm and the cheese never melted. Again, the beer is good but that's about it. The service and the food are meh and it's WAY WAY overpriced. Our 3 piece family got 2 beers, a veggie burger and two poutines....oh and an apple juice...and with tip it was over $100 Canadian. How lucky could I possibly be?…read more Back in 2013 I attended the Burlington Vermont Brewers Festival and first came across Dunham Brewery. Instantly I was a huge fan. Leo's Early Breakfast for many of us was hands down the best beer of the event. From that moment on, I knew I needed to get to this brewery. I live in the US, but have family that lives in Granby QC. Granby is just a short drive to Dunham. On my most recent trip we made plans to visit the brewery. We decided to go on a Friday night. We quickly learned that the following day was going to be the 3rd anniversary party. We were having such a great time sampling all of the beers, talking with the brewer, and remembering the great time we had in VT, we decided to come back again on Saturday for the big party. The 3rd Anniversary party had a great turnout. Many people arrived to pick up their pre-ordered beer for the special bottle release. Others waited in line in hopes to get a few of the remaining bottles. Following the bottle pickup, there was a truly unique beer dinner. For the price they were charging with all of the courses and beers included it was easy to see that this was a big "thank you" to it's customers. The dinner was fantastic. Many of the items served were works of art and science. Candied grape tomatoes, gel of Leo's Early Breakfast, beads off sauce to accompany the steak, etc.. Live music in the bar closed out the night. What a celebration! Anniversary or not, Dunham Brewery is a great spot. Stop by and sample some of their world class beers.

I have been in the restaurant…read moreindustry for over 40 years and I'm very patient and understanding if servers are busy but what I experienced from the bartender (Nichole) was unexplainable I truly have no idea what I did to get treated that way but she ignored us, rolled her eyes and shook her head at us. she clearly wanted to wait on her regulars first. and she seemed very pleased and comfortable her with horrible attitude towards us. One of the best evenings we have had in the past ten years. No question about it. Ranks with fine…read moredining big city restaurants. With the dismal and abominably warm winter New England has had in 2022-2023 ski season, we decided to go as far north as we could without crossing the border with Canada, so we lodged and had a superb weekend at Jay Peak, VT. In addition, one of my college classmates and Air Force career colleagues lives in nearby Montgomery Center, so he recommended the Black Lantern and it was one of the best recommendations ever. First of all, the history. Montgomery VT has the most covered bridges in a single town jurisdiction in the US. The area had a role to play in the War of Independence, when construction on the Bailey-Hazen Military Road to Hazen Notch began in 1777 as a way for the Continental Army to invade Quebec. Hazen's Notch Road begins a few blocks from the Black Lantern. The Inn was built in 1803 and remained as an Inn until it closed down in 2015. A group of concerned citizens bought the historic property, remodeled it, bought another building to expand the business, and reopened it in 2018. Its six rooms in the historic lodge and the four suites in the annex, allow for vacationers to stay in the historic town with close proximity to Jay Peak. But this review is for the dining. The truly fine dining offered here. We made reservations and they were honored on the spot, considering the restaurant was certainly busy. The beautiful, cozy and early American decor matched the ambiance and persona of the place. We got together with our friends and were seated in a wonderful location with privacy. The Black Lantern has joined into the farm to table movement and it shows in the amazing, fresh and abundant food available at the venue. Their beef and pork come from a local natural farm a few miles away. So does their lamb, coming from a local farmer. Their chicken is local. Their cheeses are from several Vermont producers including the ubiquitous Cabot Cheese, but also the Boucher Family Farm, the Jasper Hill Farm and the Vermont Creamery. Fresh vegetables come from nearby sources. The local and fresh sourcing of their food shows in the quality and taste of everything on the menu. And then there's their beers.... Local breweries and micros make an extensive part of their menu. Burlington's Fiddlehead, Zero Gravity and Queen City, St Alban's 14th Star beer, and Essex's First Republic. Their ciders are sourced from three locations in Vermont and even they carry wine from local producers. And their coffee is fair trade certified and roasted in town by Big Jay Roasters. The meal was impressive. We started the evening with Fried Yuca infused with truffle oil - succulent, and their Fried Brussel Sprouts that came encrusted with bacon, Gorgonzola and Parmesan cheeses. Crispy, tasty, superb. Then the salads for everyone. Fresh, crispy, beautiful. And it was time for main courses. I had their Chicken Curry stew which turned out delicious. Two of us had the lobster ravioli, made on the premises and as one of our group said, "heavy on the lobster" with not much filler. And then the steaks. About a pound and a half, perfectly seared with marbled pink inside. Truly amazing. Sadly, we had no room for dessert. With amazingly generous portions and two shared appetizers, we were stuffed. But what an evening. Service was impeccable.
