I came to Kelly and Spencer after feeling like my previous attorney was ready to give my ex-husband everything--including the kitchen sink--while disregarding the cultural and religious weight of my requests. When I told my previous lawyer the significance of getting my gold back, he said, "Just ask for his 401k instead." From the very first meeting, Kelly and Spencer went above and beyond. My main issue was that my husband had stolen my dowry and refused to pay the remainder. Some lawyers seemed uncomfortable dealing with that, but not Kelly. She listened to my story with genuine care and immediately understood the reality: I was dealing with an abusive entitled man who expected me to pay the bills while he lived off me. She ended our first meeting saying we'd get my gold back. Kelly and Spencer wasted no time. Kelly told me my initial offer--which only asked for my Islamic rights--was far too kind, considering I was paying rent, covering utilities, working, and doing most of the housework. Still, she respected my wish to stay true to my faith. We sent a Rule 11 agreement to exchange his belongings (which I had already offered) in return for what was mine. Opposing counsel dragged us into court anyway. That's where Kelly and Spencer truly shined. They could teach a master class on presenting a case clearly and powerfully in under 20 minutes. Kelly built a sharp, compassionate narrative: what the dowry signifies, how my husband freeloaded and abused me, and even his audacity to claim that money I spent on my father's car (Islamically, solely mine) was community property. Despite our win in court, my ex still refused to hand over some items in the Rule 11. Kelly stayed on call on a Saturday, taking my sister's calls as she went to retrieve them from his parents' house. My ex hired armed guards to intimidate her, and his family flicked her off--which was caught on tape. Thankfully, I had the sheriff accompany her, who documented the intimidation for court. Meanwhile, my ex still had the nerve to send emails demanding petty items like a $10 pair of scissors and hairbrush. He even listed things I bought before I met him, claiming they were community property. Spencer handled those demands with grace and firmness. I read through some of the great reviews here, and I initially felt the same. However, now that I am rapidly approaching 4 years post divorce, I very (VERY) much view differently. I initially met with one of the senior attorneys regarding my case for which I paid an incredible amount for the one hour consultation. (Which, unbeknownst to me, I was then passed to a different attorney in the group). During my consultation, I was instructed to 'paper myself'; to gather as much documentation as possible as it would benefit me greatly. So, I did. During the process, I pieced together four, four-inch binders full of information (including photos, text messages, and detailed accounts of conversations). I 100% believe now, NONE of the information was even reviewed. I was extremely disappointed of the turn out of my mediation process; I did not feel supported by my attorney in the slightest. Being a novice to divorce, I did not know differently. Since my divorce was final (almost four years ago now), I have found NUMEROUS things that SHOULD have been addressed and settled on differently, and MANY things in which my attorney allowed me to get 'railroaded' into. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend exploring other firms. I have a nonrefundable regret in moving forward with this firm. I literally live the effects of it each and every day. I was refereed to one of this firm's associate attorneys. When I called to make an appointment I was directed to her Paralegal who told me that I can only have a consultation with a senior attorney at a rate of over $600 per hour and a retainer of over $10k. After asking him for further details about their firm's policy and fee structure he explicitly told me that he does not want me to hire their firm. Then I did some checking online and it became very obvious that this firm only takes females as clients and jack-up their prices on any potential male client and give them the cold shoulder to run them off since it's (unfortunately) always easier to be on the female side in a divorce case! This firm is clearly prejudice against men and I would not hire them even if you are a respectable female! read more
