This small park is located outside the Pete V. Domenici Federal Courthouse is situated on land that was developed in 1919 as the original McClellan Park. I guess maintaining the park, as it stands now, was a compromise. Many were against building the new courthouse on the park's property, claiming that it had historical significance. Proponents of the courthouse claimed that the park had severely deteriorated and was an eye sore. Ultimately, the proponents, including the Mayor at the time prevailed, and McClellan Park was bulldozed in 1996 and construction began on the courthouse.
There is metered street parking and commercial lots and garages within a reasonable walking distance to/from the park. There is not mush to the park. I think of it more of a garden. Either way it is well maintained and is a good place to take a break. I am not sure if the city or the Courthouse takes care of the grounds but they do a pretty good job whoever it is.
The park consists primarily of paved paths that are well illuminated at night, gravel, large granite blocks with engravings in them, and native plants and trees. This is not a park that people would normally hang out at, nor is it a destination park.
Most of this park's value comes from historical significance. It is also a decent spot for building tennants to take a break or jogger to transit through. read more
