Growing up as a dependent, this is the commissary is the only grocery store we shopped at. We now get to shop here when my hubby gets orders for working overseas. But that isn't often and it's usually for the duration of his order with a few added days before/after. This commissary is much more bigger than the one in Beale AFB, I love that the aisles are wide and not having to move over constantly. Their meat is great quality and I usually buy my meat at Raley's, Costco, or Sam's. Remember the days you would clip coupons? Well, they have those paper coupons for you to use if you need one. I saw so many coupons here, they were in every aisle! Plus, they have a pretty decent selection of European and Asian food items. I shall return the next time hubs gets orders.

You need either military ID, veteran's card or dependent ID to enter and shop here. I don't shop here often since it's a drive for me, but when I'm in the area, I always take advantage of the sales and it's tax free. I love their variety of fresh deli meat, great selection of veggies and fruits and meats. The store is clean and well organized. Staffs are friendly. Their selection of fresh food is limited, like their sushi options and chicken. It can be a hit or miss with they have. I love how it's never crowded when I'm shopping and the lines moves quickly.

    Nice WIDE isles.

AWARENESS: After checking for Commissaries still open in the Bay Area and beyond, I learned, both the PX and Commissary here at McClellan were still open. Road trip! NARRATIVE: My first trip to McClellan Commissary was back in January. Since then, I've made the trek and returned to shop for my groceries at least three times a month. Unlike Moffett Fields Commissary, this one is HUGH. They have lots of fresh produce and meats and if your like me, who always looks for the weird or hard to find items like; Red Kamaboko for my Udon soup or, freshly cooked and still hot turkey tails, this commissary will not disappoint. SCENE: The McClellan Commissary and PX are joined together and are located at the now closed McClellan Air Force Base, off of Watt Avenue, between the Rio Linda and North Highland areas of Sacramento. EVIDENCE: McClellan's Commissary has it all. A nice, clean store with every imaginable grocery item you can think of, and then some. The most impressive thing about the store IMO Is they're HUGH isles. You can actually have three shoppers with their carts, side by side on each isle. Nice! RECOMMENDATION(S): If you have access or, know someone who does. I would highly recommend you get you bottom to the store to save some money.

Ask the Community - McClellan Air Force Base Commissary

Do they allow service connected disabled Veterans with a VA ID card shop at this location? I know it used to be for only active military and retirees (and their spouses) but I was informed recently (starting Jan 1, 2020) that the policy changed.

Yes they do. It is posted a n the ID counter.

    Is the Commissary still open?

    Yes it is

My husband is 100 percent disabled. Can we get I'd for the store?

Is he or was he in the Military? You need a military ID to shop there

I first visited after seeing a social media post recommending this place, and I'm so glad I did. It's always nice to try something new and walk away with such a great experience. This is a small, local meat and grocery market that truly delivers quality and service. Inside it looks like traditional Mexican markets with a variety of things to see and smell. I noticed they also serve food, but this time I came just to shop for Mexican grocery essentials--and they have a little bit of everything. The butcher was excellent: friendly, skilled, and professional. I really like that they don't sell pre-marinated meat; instead, they marinate it fresh on the spot upon request. The prices are fair for a small local business, and honestly, I'd rather spend my money here than at big chain stores that don't appreciate their customers the same way. When checking out, a kind gentleman (possibly the owner) greeted us warmly and even offered a free pint of salsa as a thank-you gift. That small gesture of kindness really stood out--it makes you want to return, not for the free stuff, but for the genuine appreciation and great service they provide. The salsa tasted amazing!! I highly recommend giving this place a try. On my next visit, I plan to check out their "pan" (Mexican pastries) and the restaurant side, which also looked amazing!

They have a huge selection of food for amazing prices. It is the cheapest store in Sacramento even cheaper than Walmart. The cashiers are quick, curt, but polite. They get the job done. Shoppers don't come here for the ambiance just for the savings. You can't beat bananas for 50 cents a pound, milk for $3.25 a gallon. Winco has a huge variety of bulk bins, featuring beans, rice, pasta, candy, flour, nuts, seeds, spices and way more. What really set me off was her gossiping about me to another coworker because I didn't know the difference between squash and she painted me as a thief criminal for a couple cent difference. I only knew because I was shopping with someone else and they were close enough to hear her gossiping at the station on the self checkout. I purchased clearance food items that I later realized -- without even opening them -- were clearly not fresh and not safe to eat. This is especially serious to me because I have children, and I rely on stores to sell food that is safe for families. What makes this worse is that I was told in the store that these products were "safe" and that employees buy them themselves. When I returned to request a refund, one associate initially said it would be accepted. However, the same employee who originally reassured me suddenly refused, became visibly upset, and told me "it's the law" that they cannot take the items back. That statement is misleading -- stores cannot avoid responsibility for selling food that is not safe for consumption. On top of that, during the same visit I was overcharged for other items compared to the posted prices, which added to my frustration and concern about how this business operates. This was not just poor customer service -- it raises serious concerns about food safety and consumer rights. I strongly recommend that others carefully inspect any items before purchasing here and double-check prices at checkout.
