How do you discover a book without "opening" it . The woman was so rude , the book they sold didn't even have a barcode . The seller was even flustered when we said we didn't want it and wanted to donate it then and she almost would not take it at a new and USED bookstore. The staff unfriendly and unhelpful.

Stumbled into Freebirds during an afternoon walk and was mesmerized by the floor to ceiling stacks and overall communal energy. After a little research, I found out Freebirds was opened by Samantha Citrin and Rachel London in 2004 and later sold to local resident, Peter Miller. Peter was very pleasant and looked like a modern day Hagrid behind his stack of books and vintage cash register. Finally, in addition to the community orientated events this little bookstore hosts, it is also home to NYC Books Through Bars - a Volenteer collective which sends free, donated books to the incarcerated. Will definitely be returning. Shop local! Let's keep these gems open.

When the other store didn't carry it (disappointing), I knew I would find it at Community Bookstore. They carry an excellent selection of new fiction, harder to find fiction, classics and everything In between. If you can't find what you are looking for, they will happily order the books for you for pick up and even delivery. They have an amazing author events which, I really enjoy. Books are a huge part of my life and I love to Community Bookstore.

We even ended up chatting about the latest season of the Bear, which made the visit feel really welcoming and personal. I actually walked out with a physical book, which is rare for me since I typically use the app Libby to read. I ended up picking up Yesteryear and the waitlist for this book on Libby is MONTHS. So I was happy to finally have a copy in my hands instead of waiting. The store has a cozy neighborhood feel, and it looks like they also have a little outdoor space, though I didn't get a chance to check it out. I grabbed a wine that the bar was offering that day as a special and sat inside by myself. Where I tell you that it was great to just see people come in and out and the bar remain busy. The service was quick from the bartender and she was making sure people got their drinks and could funnel through the line. The empanada pop up was tasty and there were people lined up and waiting. The guy whose popup it was was from Mamacha Empanadas and he makes sure to recommend both of the salsas. I wish I had gotten at least 4 more, it was that good.

Even when complimenting her business, she acted a bit "uppity" to me. Look, maybe it was an off day for her, but you're supposed to represent your business and that's not a good look. Yikes... I think this is a cool spot, just avoid the owner if it looks like she is having a bad mood
