We pulled into the lot at 5:58 PM (two minutes before closing). Rod, the manager, was in the beginning stages of closing up. He dropped everything and welcomed us into the store, cheerfully agreeing to help us out with our totally destroyed left trailer tire. Rod asked Hunter to do the heavy lifting, and he also cheerfully stayed after hours to help us out. Literally within fifteen minutes, we were on our way, avoiding what could've been a real mess for us. These guys allowed us to get home to Des Moines with the load on the trailer. My car just about overheated before I got it home. Luckily I don't live far from Ben's. When I called them to complain I felt as if I was being treated like a liar. Several hours later, I called them to check because they hadnt called me and they told me that, without my authorization, they had already finished the work. They charged me almost $500 for it. Had they actually called me and given me that quote, I would not have authorized it. I have another car, this one was just a back up. I would very happily have taken my car back, and gone to just use the one until I had the money for the brakes. As it is, I had to take my rent money to pay for a service that I didn't authorize. The ONLY reason they get 2 stars instead of one is that they did, in fact, fix my brakes. But I doubt that I'll ever go there again, and I'll tell others to stay away as well.
