I am so far behind in writing this review!! We came back to Illinois in March to visit family. We heard about MC Tap and then my husband did some research. We love bloody Mary's so we thought we would drive from Rochelle (we are from AZ) to order one or two. We were met by the best Bartender. John was very friendly, waited on us as soon as he could. Very upbeat and personable. A rare thing in the year of 2024. The Tavern/bar reminded me of the old time taverns back in the day when you want to get out of the house and go have a drink. Or like a lot of taverns up in Wisconsin . I thought decor for St Patrick's day was a nice touch but truly it's the bar area and lighting that gives this place the character that I love. MC Tap is bigger than it looks from the outside. It has a back room where people were playing pool. The inside not only had a big bar area it also had some tables because they serve food too. The cook who I watched work the flat top grill and the fryer also with a great attitude. Her name was Jordan and boy did every piece of food she cooked was hot and looked delicious! John gave us a menu and the people next to us who did order a hamburger and fries said it's the best. We just got done eating before we came but we were tempted to order even though we were not hungry because boy everything looked delicious! We did pass on the food but told John we would be back. Overall this place is a gem because of many reasons. John and Jordan are so personable and hard workers. The food looks amazing. TV's with sports. Great music. What a great place to escape to or eat. We were reading in the local paper - where is the best place for hamburgers around Rochelle, IL. Imagine our surprise when several people responded MC Tap in Monroe Center. I felt like the cowboys in the old Pace salsa commercial. "Monroe Center?" So, we put the coordinates into the navicomputer, and a few miles up I-39 later, we got off on Illinois Route 72, and a few miles east we found Monroe Center and MC Tap. This is your typical small town bar - light wood paneling throughout, some funny signs on the wall, a Big Buck Hunter game and darts game, and slot machines. They had at least 5 beers on tap, but we were there for the burgers. We tried their breaded cauliflower. It was served with a side of ranch dressing right off the fryer, and was good. For the main course, we both had their cheeseburger singles, and I had their fries. You can literally watch them cook your burgers if the second table east of the door is available and you choose to sit there. Large hamburger patties, which are cooked on the grill, seasoned and prepared. The fries are also fried fresh. Everything comes out from the food prep area hot, hot, hot and tasty. One of my favorite bars, great burger and chicken sammy. Maybe offer a chicken wrap? Good wings. Have the pork tenderloin!! Their burger is cooked perfectly, crispy but juicy. BEST LOCAL BURGER HANDS DOWN!! No complaints, fun place, touch tunes juke box, mostly good service, clean, decent crowd. The gambling machines are tucked back in a semi private room. Plenty of seating, nice bar setting, it's a bonus that not every square inch is covered by a television. Great place to hang out to actually talk and watch a game. Awesome townie bar Their burgers are terrific. Half pound burgers. Very reasonable prices. They have daily specials. The place is always busy. It takes awhile for burgers so plan your time accordingly . Well worth the wait. Fantastic service. There is usually two people working on a Saturday . Only downside is it is cash only. read more

The food used to be better, not sure what happened after they reopened after a few weeks of being closed. Actually I have no idea why they even closed. But anyway, I will never step foot in that place again. Twice, once around noon a few weeks back and just now, on 3/18 at 4:10 pm, the place is closed despite the sign that says they open everyday at 11am. This is no way to run a business. Also, I should mention that the crowd, both employees and customers have changed and for the worse. Nothing like a bunch of wanna be cowboys struggling with hip hop tendencies.
