There was evidence of a permanently parked car in my asphalt driveway from deep depressions where tires seem to have been. It became a trip and falling hazard for family and guests. An ad for Mazzilli Masonry appeared in a "money mailer" while 2 other masonry businesses with decent websites appeared in an Internet search. I acquired estimates for all 3 companies. One company offered 2-inch thick asphalt for about $2600 while the other two, including Mazzilli, offered similar and less expensive estimates for 3-inch thicknesses. I chose Mazzilli for their friendliness, communication, and a small price difference. They worked on my driveway during my convenience. It took 2 days - one for demolition and one for paving. It was walkable the following day, but 2 weeks passed before I could drive on it. PROS: Nine months have passed and my driveway is still in great condition- like new. The price point was quite fair for the asphalt thickness and use of a heavy-duty vibrating steamroller. CONS: I was expecting a topcoat for an even smoother finish but it was missing. My driveway happens to be edged with standard stones of 1950s construction. Asphalt near the sidewalk was applied to be almost level with the top of the edge stones- a sign of slight apathy. I felt that the workers should have pulled up and reset those few stones. Though it wasn't part of the contract, they could have presented resetting them as an option for a fee. For the fair price and quality, I recommend this masonry business. read more

I would like to give my strongest endorsement for Mazzilli Mason Contractors. I hired them in late 2015 to build a large retaining wall in front of my house, along with renovating a set of steps and my driveway. Mazzilli was easy to work with and highly professional. They completed the job on time and it came out even better than i could've thought. I think any homeowner knows that any large job is very tough. The thing i loved about Mazzilli is their communication flow. Tommy is the guy that runs the operation, and he is the most accessible contractor I have ever worked with. If he didnt pick up his phone, he'd call me back within 5 minutes. There is no doubt that we had stumbles along the way (like in any project) but the communication which they delivered was amazing, and that is what earns them five stars. They never made me feel like I was alone, like so many contractors do. They continually updated me, immediately told me when things were moving off course and further updated me as things returned to schedule. They were nothing short of remarkable. The work product was near perfect, but the experience of working with them was perfect, and thats over half the battle when doing big jobs. I will trust them to do any job I have in the future. Don't work with Mazzilli Mason Contractors. That's my strong advice. Note 3 reasons listed below. 1. Bait and switch pricing. We got an estimate of $6200 for masonry work on our front steps and walkway. The men from Mazzilli came, started work, and immediately informed us that the job would cost $2000 above the estimate "to bring the work up to code." We strongly protested and got the price down a little bit, but had to pay much more than agreed. We never got an answer to our question of why the code problem, so obvious on the first day of the job, was not seen and included in the estimate. 2. Sloppy work. When the work was done, there were large white splotches on the walkway. We consulted with another mason, who informed us that Mazzilli had been sloppy in their work. Mazzilli would not correct the problem, and blamed another contractor. (More on this below.) 3. Failure to do all the work. Mazzilli took down our railings to do the work but said we needed to get a railings person to put them back up. As I explained to Mazzilli, this is bad for the customer; if there is a problem with the work, the masonry people will blame the railings people and vice versa. That is exactly what happened to us. Mazzilli said the railings man was responsible for the splotches, and the railings man said he wasn't. We were stuck and had to pay another mason to remove the marks. Everyone we talked to tells us that it is standard practice for masons who remove railings to put them back up when the work is completed, but Mazzilli does not do this, providing themselves with a ready-made excuse if there's a problem. Mazzilli talks a good game but they don't deliver. There are plenty of good masons out there. Find someone else. read more

We first hired Mazzilli to pave our driveway and border it with belgian block. They did a great job! We then asked them for 1) a stone patio with sitting wall in the back, 2) a drainage system that runs to the street, 3) a side walkway and 4) front walkway. Through all the projects, they were very professional, provided accurate estimates, were quick and did a wonderful job. We really enjoyed working with John who met with us (or called us) several times before, during and after the projects to walk us through every step of the way. No detail was overlooked. I don't typically write reviews for contractors, but felt compelled to do so after having an amazing experience with Mazzilli Masonry. We recently hired them to install bluestone steps and an accompanying bluestone patio. Their pricing was very competitive and their communication from start to finish was impeccable. Its hard to find a contractor that puts the customer first, but I must say Mazzilli went above and beyond. John the owner was literally available 24/7 to take a call or answer a text message, he was fully engaged during the entire project. The large crew they sent completed the entire job in 2 days, and it came out beautifully. They were mindful of our yard and left the property in good shape; it's worth noting they even put down special mats to ensure our lawn was not damaged. I would highly recommend Mazzilli Masonry to family and friends and will certainly use them for any future masonry work on our home. read more

I had my driveway redone by Mazilli. After the driveway was torn up, I did a walk around and found they had uncovered a sewer access pipe that had been buried underneath the existing driveway. No one mentioned it to me. I brought it to their attention and they said they would send someone back to take a look and call me. No call. Next day I call them and they say "don't worry, we'll cap it". I didn't think it was smart to pave over a sewer access with no idea of what got pushed in there when they were excavating or of covering up a sewer access point at all. Their lack of response or confidence inspiring plan with respect to the access pipe caused me to call All County Sewer and drain who came out and snaked the pipe which at that point had debris in it and build an access pipe back up so it could be paved around. The Mazilli people were on site 10 feet away as All County was doing the job. Before I let All County go, I stood there with both contractors and asked the Mazilli people to look at the pipe and make sure it worked for them. They said it was fine. I paid All County and let them go. After they paved, there was a huge divit around the access pipe which would have caused my car to be essentially bouncing over a pot hole on each entry. I asked them to get it flush and they said All County didn't leave enough pipe. I had stood there while All County showed them how the lid could be extended. All County had no way of knowing how much asphalt they would put down and if the pipe was too long, it would have had to been cut back or would have protruded from the driveway. Mazilli eventually got the area flush, but had I not been standing there managing the work, I would have had a potentially blocked sewer down the road with no access or a giant pot hole. They also replaced a drain box in the driveway with a larger size. Instead of moving the drain box out a bit to allow for ample paving around it, they stuck it in the same place as the much smaller box which allowed almost no asphalt around one side. Within a week the box had holes starting around it due to the very thin border of asphalt around it and the water pressure washing it away. They claimed it was chipmunks. My 30 year old driveway never had problems around the drain boxes and the wear started from the top, not below. A year later and the second drain box they paved around which was existing had a hole around it. The previous 30 year old driveway never had a hole around either drain box. The communication with the office was awful, with no update on the fix to the holes around the drain box. The receptionist argued with me that she called me. I asked her why would I be calling to find out when the work was being done, if she had informed me. She yelled at me that she was doing her job. Finally, the owner, who I never previously saw on the job site, called me personally after I placed a picture of the hole on our community Facebook group. He came and fixed the first hole that they blamed on chipmunks. But a year later with the second hole, I don't even feel like calling them. It was unprofessional from start to finish. read more

We hired Mazzilli Masonry to complete a very large patio/landscaping project. The Patio had a very intricate design including a retaining wall and walkways and the landscaping included the installation of around 1,000 trees and plants. The plants are beautiful and came from a grower in Pennsylvania. John was very attentive from start to finish. His team worked extremely well together and with us. If we advised him of something we wanted changed or fixed, there were no questions ask, he made it happen. John gave wonderful advice throughout the project to make sure we ended up with the best possible outcome. John was a pleasure to work with and a very straight forward guy. He is also the most communicative contractor we have ever seen. He was always accessible and we cannot recommend him enough. The final product is absolutely gorgeous and we are very pleased that we chose Mazzilli to do the job. In my opinion Robert D. (the last reviewer) should have expressed his expectations while they were doing the project. I'm sure that Mazzilli would have done everything they could to make sure he was happy. Horrible. Do not hire these people. Stay Away! I would give them 0 stars if Yelp allowed it. We hired them to do a small job (repair one step tread), gave a deposit and signed our contract with them on June 30. They said they would let us know what our exact date would be. Then they called us and said that their step crew was busy but they'd "find a crew" to do it. They gave us a date in October. We said that was way too far away because our front steps were broken and was a liability and that we needed an earlier date. They said that they would call us every Thursday to see if they could fit our steps in the following week. A month went by and they didn't fix our steps, so we decided that we wanted to go with another company and asked for our deposit back. After calling, leaving messages, being told "Virginia isn't in," "Virginia stepped out, she'll call you right back," "Virginia will call you later today," I went over there for my deposit. Every day there was a reason why they couldn't give me my deposit or tried to avoid me. After over a week of trying to get my refund, I finally got it. The whole experience was horrible. I wound up going with a different company and found out that this wasn't the first time Mazzilli tried to keep someone's deposit. Other negatives about this business; The quote was astronomical The people in the office were rude. (Example: "Yeah, whatever.") The office smells like smoke. Prepare to get a headache read more
