The place itself was a decent size with a few seating options, but as many mentioned before, be prepared for a wait. My sister and I came around 11:30am and put our names on the electronic waitlist. We're a party of 2 and was about 9th in line with an approximate wait time of 60 minutes. While waiting, we decided to walk to Chinatown to explore. I would say that 60 mins is common and expected for most brunch places in every city. I'm from Toronto and this is the same there. I was able to track the waitlist on my phone easily and started heading back when we were 4th in line. The menu is quite limited, but they had all of the classic brunch items available, plus Shashuka. I wasn't feeling too hungry by the time we sat down, so I opted for the mushroom and cheese omelet with an espresso salted honey latte on the side. My sister got the classic breakfast. The latte was quite on the bitter side, but I'm okay with that. The omelet was cheesy, delicious and didn't feel too heavy. The potatoes were crispy as well. I enjoyed my meal. One of the few brunch spots in Ottawa so it was absolutely packed on a Saturday. They have an online waitlist system in place that gives you a text when your table is ready so we went and explored a bit of the city while waiting for a table. The shop is really cute, bright, and feels like a mom and pops kind of place. They have a small selection of brunch offerings but a rather expansive drink menu, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Got the Classic Breakfast (15), which is your typical toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, potato brunch. Everything was just decent. I came here for Saturday brunch around 11am and it was super busy. They don't take reservations, so we had walked in hoping to not wait too long. They told us it would be 45 minutes and that we could leave and they would text/calls us. After an hour, we still didn't hear back and they didn't answer the phone, so we went back. There was still one table in front of us. Overall the wait was 1 hour 20 minutes or so, for a table of 3. I understand that they were very busy, but they sat 3 of us at a single table for two, with the third person on the end of the table. Needless to say I have never seen other restaurants do this, and it was cramped! I got the shrimp toast, and my friends got the eggs Benedict and the shashuka. The shrimp was deliciously seasoned and coated in a yummy sauce, and topped with a poached egg. The toast was delicious, but pretty small considering it was $18. It was served with a side of homemade chips, which were a bit under seasoned in my opinion. I would've preferred a different side if that was an option. My friends really enjoyed their meals and the portions were much bigger for the other two dishes. I also ordered a dirty chai latte. I love chai. However, I didn't really enjoy their latte. The spices of chai weren't pronounced enough. And there was a lott of sediment at the bottom, as if they didn't drain the spices? The latte art was nice though. I definitely want to try more things here and will be back! But maybe will come at opening next time to avoid the long wait. read more

Would totally recommend this place if you're in the mood of a great twist on brunch. This Mediterranean brunch spot has so different than other brunch places in Ottawa, but is so worth trying. The servers were extremely friendly and for us being a group of 6 and the restaurant being full, the food still came out really quickly. The ambiance was nice with beautiful tiles as art work. When it came to the food, it did not disappoint in the slightest. The avocado-halloumi toast was so good, with fresh tomatoes and cucumber on top and the olive drizzle around it gave it a unique but delicious flavour. We visited Mazarine in the beginning of November. The restaurant is near our apartment, but we never had the chance to dine there before. They are often full and have a wait time of over an hour as they don't take reservations. We decided to try our luck on a Friday, it was around lunchtime and we were seated within 15 minutes. We started off with some coffee. The Turkish coffee and dirty chai latte were both quite caffeinated, which is what you want at brunch time. The Turkish coffee is served in an espresso sized cup. The flavor is very intense and has a strong spice aroma. My boyfriend liked it, but I don't think it would suit everyone's taste. We shared the labneh to start, which was served in ball shaped portions covered in three different herb blends. Despite the seasonings on the outside, the flavor was a bit plain. The shakshuka was delicious. The warm eggs and tomatoes along with the accompanying sourdough bread is perfect on a cold day. We also had the Matane shrimp toast. It is not a typical brunch item and we wanted to try something new. The shrimps were served cold and without much seasoning. I think this dish might have been intended as a healthy menu option or to highlight the unprocessed taste of the ingredients. However, I like my brunch food to be hearty and satisfying. Mazarine offers amazing Mediterranean inspired brunch offerings in Centretown. The indoor seating is not accessible, as there are at least four steps. The inside of the restaurant is a bit tight, so if you use a mobility device, this could be an issue. There is outdoor seating which is accessible, but only available for parties of one or two. I forgot to use the bathrooms so I can't speak to those. The menu offers lots of vegetarian options, but almost every meal has eggs or cheese as a main ingredient; vegans may not be able to make this menu work. Be prepared to wait over an hour for a table on the weekend; the food is so amazing that this place cannot keep up with demand. If you have the ability to wait though, I'd HIGHLY recommend it. I had the salmon avocado toast and it was wonderful. The zatar drizzle and sour dough bread were such innovative and exciting choices! The place is lovely and cute. Clean decor, attention to details and easy to find. Parking was not a problem because it's a one way street and you can park both ways on the road with a parking meter ticket. Max is 2 hours which is plenty of time for a brunch ! They deal with many local food sellers , their coffee is from happy goat (one of the best) the bread is from bread by us which is honestly one of my favourite! Love how their menu is a fusion between middle eastern and western! We had the avocado toast with Labneh and zatar.. very yummy and filling! But had to try their super fluffy pancake with ashta and rose jam it was great but came cold, was hoping it was warmer! Service is very friendly and nice! Lots of vegetarian options on the menu! Very unique Mediterranean style breakfast with delicious Turkish coffee with coriander spice (expensive but a must try) and shakshuka (delicious!). Run by two sisters and came highly recommended to me and did not disappoint! The only issue is that they don't take rezzos, but if you call the morning of, they will add you to a wait list and let you know when to arrive so that they can try to have a table ready for you to minimize the wait time. read more

Right now this restaurant specializes in brunch, and there is a Mediterranean theme. It's a little bit pricey, each breakfast being about $15-$22, but I have to say that everything we had was delicious. The meal started with pita bread, some excellent high-quality olive oil, and zaatar. It was delicious. We ordered the shokshuka (sp?) And the grilled hallumi cheese with watermelon. This is one of the best brunch spots in the city, the only downside is the wait time and the limited menu items. There are not many items on the menu, but what they do have they do really well. The mimosas are very very well priced, almost priced at cost with the bottle of Prosseco and a juice of your choice to share between 2 people. I had high hopes of this new brunch spot in my neighbourhood. We had visited during their soft launch and the prices were quite a bit higher than what you would see at the higher-end/more established restaurants so that was off-putting. The only classic brunch item was Eggs Florentine for $22!?! I'm sorry, but Wilf & Ada's serves the same dish for $16.67. Since their soft opening, I was excited to see that they expanded their menu to include more classic breakfast offerings at much more reasonable prices. However, we never got a chance to try their new menu since their service was atrocious. We asked for a table for two and while they were full, there was an empty table for 4 by the window and another table for 4 by the kitchen. They refused to split one of the tables for 4 into two tables of two even though it could have been easily accommodated and isn't that the design principle of having modular furniture so that the restaurant can adapt and have that flexibility? Apparently, the staff at Mazarine have no experience in working in the service industry because you don't make existing customers wait for a table when there is clearly a table available "in the hopes that a bigger group will come into the restaurant next". I can understand a busy brunch spot where there is a lineup for the next available table, and they call out for groups that match what they have freed up but this was NOT the case. We arrived and there were free tables available. They didn't want to accommodate us at any table. That is not how you run a restaurant and retain customers. When a group of four came in 10 minutes after us and were seated immediately at the table they refused to split into two, we left and they lost our business and the business of all of our friends and neighbours who live in the same neighbourhood.
