Fire pit out front

We had our wedding here last August and it was great! We came out to try the food menu twice before the wedding, and many people told us it was the best food they'd eaten at a wedding! We were able to pick food from their menu as well as add items that weren't on the menu, and the price can't be beat! We set up a big bar on the front porch with a couple of kegs, a ton of wine and mixed drink ingredients. The appetizers were also served on the front porch. Dinner was buffet style on the back porch. We had to make a last-minute change to have the ceremony indoors because of the weather, but it was no problem and the staff helped change the room over afterwards. There were beautiful views of mountains from both porches, and even though it was cloudy on the wedding day, we still took nice pictures there with the forest as the background. My only problem would have been that they aren't handicap accessible from the front entrance, which would have been an issue if the ceremony had been outdoors like originally planned (my grandma uses a walker), but it ended up working out perfect that we had to do it inside. I loved that there were so many areas for people to hang out -- we had people chillin out in the teepee, by the campfire, in the main room and in the basement game room. Around 11pm they brought out the leftovers from dinner so we could all have a late-night snack, it was such a nice surprise! We stayed up pretty late in the basement, but it was no problem. I think we had about 30-40 guests stay the night in the lodge's bunk rooms. The beds aren't the best but they do the trick, especially after everyone's been drinking. The staff was up and making breakfast for everyone around 7am the next morning, it was so nice to have everyone together again in the morning to say our goodbyes.

An impromptu last-minute visit to the incredible Columbia River Gorge had me scrambling for…read moreaccommodations during peak summer season. To my surprise and under astonishment I found Hood River Hostel and was able to make a reservation with less than 24 hours notice! The proprietors Lorena and Tim are friendly, accommodating, outgoing but most importantly they are people pleasers. I was greeted warmly on the phone and in person. They serve breakfast from 7 AM to 9:30 AM Monday through Friday and 8 AM to 10 AM Saturday and Sunday. This is the only meal they serve in the cafeteria however Lorena had the coffee brewing at 6:30 AM. The men's dorm is clean and quiet with a lockableprivate bath room attached. On the rare occasion that it's occupied a short stroll past the lobby and you will find two more restrooms that are unisex, one equipped with a shower. This is a pet free and smoking free facility so please note there is no smoking in The facility or on the grounds. Quiet time is posted so guess can be assured of their undisturbed sleep. The bed was very comfortable the and the linens smelled fresh and clean. This is a new business that they started this summer so they are still working out a few kinks. Be patient with them as they went way out of their way to make me feel comfortable, happy and welcome. What an incredible fine in the Columbia River Gorge for only $54 per night for the shared dormitory. A single private room is $69 during peak season.

This place is relatively new. It used to be the Bambino International Learning Center (pre-school)…read more It sits just west of downtown Hood River and shares the building with a pot dispensary. I found them on AirBNB and they also have a website as well. It's a newish building, and it was loosely converted from pre-school to hostel by adding a bunch of twin beds to the layout. There still exist the knee high sinks and other remnants from the pre-school days. It's owned by a photographer, Tim D., who works in Seattle and is town occasionally. The building is owned by, Lorana, who also runs the hostel in Tim's absence. The first thing of note is that it's relatively expensive for a hostel. The nightly rate for a shared dorm room (maybe 10 beds?) is $50 per night before taxes and fees. For comparison, the Columbia River Gorge Hostel, just across the bridge in Bingen, is $22 per night. Also there are no discounts for longer stays here. Private room rates are $100 per night (it's the converted staff room from the old pre-school) While the beds are passable, the pillows are basically just covers. I was reminded of my time using a folded tarp as a pillow while hiking with the hill tribes in Thailand. Bring your own or pillage several from surrounding beds to create one. Also - there isn't any private storage space associated with the beds in the dorm room. Which is basically expected in most hostels as you lock up your belongings while you're out and about during the day. Something to keep in mind if you plan on traveling with luggage. Laundry is $3 per washer and dryer load. There is a small continental breakfast provided each morning with coffee being the centerpiece. Small muffins and cereal round out the mix. The wifi internet here is barely usable. I was getting .05 mbps on the upside which means many requests were timing out and I ended up using my cell phone as a hotspot most of the time. I would see Lorana milling about in the morning but there was rarely anyone at the front desk, and never at night. I was told they lock the doors at 2a as well. Hood River is generally a pretty busy place during the summer however, capacity while I was there was pretty good. It was me and another guy for most of my time there in the dorm room. Demand didn't seem to be that high. There are 2 showers for the entire place. I had originally planned on staying for 10 days. Unfortunately, I had to change my plans halfway through my trip and they have a very strict no refund policy. There's no discount for booking multiple days in a row so I would recommend paying as you go in case your plans may change. I ended up eating the $250 loss. It wasn't a terrible experience but it was fairly disappointing. If you go in with proper expectations I think you might be alright - or just stay at one of the other options in town or across the bridge. They're also looking to actively sell the building, if you have $1.6M and a good use for the space.

This guy was so kind, patient, thorough and helpful with many recommendations! This hotel was beautiful, it was such a deal, I couldn't believe how gorgeous the suites were! The area is pretty safe, never felt like I had any issues just don't do anything you wouldn't in any other city! Like walking around at 4 am or causing issues. I wish I had pics but unfortunately forgot! I will continue to book here anytime I come to Portland! If you use capital one travel, this is one of their premium hotels and we got $50 in Credit towards anything, $25 per night per person towards breakfast and a room upgrade all for free!

It is a large mixed dormitory with beds stacked on top of each of other. Hence, you will need to climb stairs if you have a bed on top. For a hostel bed, it is nicer than your typical hostel. There is a place to lock up your things in your space as well as some lockers in the common area. You can also cover your bed for more privacy. Within the common area, there is a place for you to eat inside the room as well as there is a large table. Within the hostel, your experience may vary depending on who is staying in the hostel at the same time. For me, it was not a very comfortable setup due to the lack of privacy and noise. Also of note is that Old Town is a bit of a rough part of town with many homeless folks so it can be sketchy walking to and from the hostel. I think the hostel itself is fine if you are okay with the setup, but can't recommend staying in the area unless you have no other options.

Bingen School Inn is located just across the river, perfectly situated for visitors to White Salmon and Hood River. I stayed here with a friend while we were doing a three day cycling stage race, and so we wanted something cheap but safe and secure for our bikes. True to its name, the hostel used to be a school house, and like Portland's Kennedy School, the former school rooms are now with simple beds in a dorm style setting. Only instead of the McMenamin's artwork, here at Bingen School Inn we have a small collection of typewriters and other various old objects placed among well-tended vines and swiss cheese plants. The room we stayed in was small, narrow, came with a mini fridge, and two beds. Think dorm room. The floors were a little creaky, and we could only barely hear other occupants down the hall. The beds weren't the best, unfortunately. In fact, this place would get 5 stars if it weren't for the crappy mattress. In the basement area of the Inn there is a huge communal kitchen area with restaurant grade stoves and refrigerators. Outdoors there is a large lounging area and picnic tables. Finally, there is a big auditorium/basketball court adjoining the hostel. While we were there it hosted a friendly potluck for some visiting Buddhists. Meanwhile the owner/manager sports a beard about 2 feet long. Quite nice. I wouldn't recommend coming here with your young children, or making this a romantic weekend stay. It's perfect for a long weekend or a visit for a wedding, or a trip involving bikes, hikes, rivers, and the like. Highly recommend!

It was here, though, we were able to find what appears to be the only hostel in the Gorge. Located in a historic school house built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it was a quiet hostel (probably because we were some of the few people there) and served us well for the night. We really loved how they kept the majority of the aspects of the school intact when converting it into a hostel. The hallways are lined with lockers, water fountains down at the child level, chalk boards in the rooms; you get the idea. They have a nice large kitchen and common area (maybe the school's old cafeteria?) which is filled a random assortment of furniture, reading material, and other such curiosities. The manager on duty was extremely nice and we had some great conversations with him later in the evening before we retired for bed. It was a nice place to shore up and lay our heads for the night and we will certainly be back.

Wonderful location on Division, near great eating (pie, pizza, speakeasy, ice cream, and more!) and fun shops (vintage, more vintage, black owned bookstore, and more!). Baked goods and coffee available all day, fridge space for your leftovers and booze, plus bonus for long stays: you can use the washer and dryer! Cozy nooks for eating, front porch with swing, comfy couch in the parlor. Friendly staff, and friendly fellow guests, & comfy rooms -tho we were in a basement room, not the best view from there. We made our reservations a few weeks ago, and the process was seamless and very easy. Everything was contactless and we received an email from the staff on how to access the house. Our email instructions included our room and private bathroom details. The parking situation is very challenging because they don't have on site parking. There is nearby street parking within 1-2 blocks. This lodging is within walking distance to many nearby restaurants, shops, and bars. The rooms are warm and cozy, but not very accessible for handicapped people. Overall our lodging experience was very good and I'm sure we would return for another visit. Tip: Enforce or put a sign in your driveway "Don't Block Driveway" so your guest can at least load bags. Parking is not good at all. I saw others homes in area that had signs stated the obvious. There are alot of steps. Don't stay here if you can't handle stairs or parking issues in this area. Other than that, enjoyed my stay. @glampedlife
