My Son has been coming to Ames almost every year since he was born to visit his Grandparents. I love how he gets along and loves my Mom and Dad and enjoys his stay. However, as a proud graduate of the University of Iowa, the other thing that comes to mind is - Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be Cyclones. :) The Kid is now into "Magic the Gathering" and over the last few years, this is the next place that he wants to go after arriving from California. Mayhem Collectibles is roomy, well lit, clean, and safe. In one room, there are lots of comic books and similar nicely displayed literature. In the other is the game room, where the nerds and the antelope play. I had no problem with dropping him off for a few hours or allowing him to roller blade over from home. I'm grateful that Mayhem Collectibles is here as a welcome alternative to his "Other Worlds" home in Portland Oregon. read more

Holy geek heaven Batman!! There are so many awesome games, comics, and collectibles here! The store is organized well with comics by creator (DC/Marvel) and games in alphabetical order. And they not only have a main level, but they also have a basement filled mainly with model building for D and D but there are other cool things as well. read more

This is the oldest, most established and most competent comic book store in central Iowa. This is the original baby. You're not going to find anything on this scale with this inventory in 200 miles. This store is large and they have a deep, deep inventory of comics. They are exceptionally enthusiastic and knowledgeable about everything in stock and have a really good comic subscription program that allows you to keep a 'box' for your comics and pick them up in bulk. read more

Best comic store I've visited in Ames. Has pretty much everything you can ask for. Current comics, graphic novels, a whole bottom floor of well stock back issues. Has a graphic novel discount shelve. It's also a gamer store with tons of comic and gamer merchandise. Staff was friendly and welcoming. It's right across for Iowa State. Really cool store. read more

Mayhem is a great place if you are looking for comics or other more "nerdy" items. I was looking for a certain comic collection book and asked them if they had it. They checked their system and told me no, but they called their store in Des Moines to check. They had it, so they offered to bring it to Ames for me the next week. I was going to Des Moines any way, so they set it aside for me and it was ready for me to pick it up the next day. GREAT customer service and a great atmosphere. read more

An EXCELLENT selection of old and new comics AND heaven itself (or paradise, or nirvana) for the gamer; The operators will GLADLY look up old/new but hard to get &/or out of print games, and get them in for you, Friendly staff and good vibes allowed Mayhem to create it's BEST store here. The staff won't BS you, even if it costs them a sale - which makes them my pick for MY business. The storefront is SWEET, with beautiful art and up-to-date items in the window displays, and the store is as clean as any restaurant. IF I (being crippled) had a complaint at all, it's that the shop has two stories, but with staff willing to help people down (and back up) the stairs, it's no trouble at all. read more

From my 11-year-old son: A great store if you're into Pokemon! The store had a great selection, and separate boxes for Pokemon rares, uncommons, and commons. Trainers and Pokemon were sorted, so you could easily look at only trainers or only pokemon. They also had a binder, sorted by expansion, of EX's, etc. There was even a binder for what the store was looking for. The staff was helpful and polite. Also, they had a nice deal where every 3 uncommons were a dollar instead of 1.50. The selection of other products was also very good. read more

One of the coolest comic / gaming shops I've been to. They have plenty of tables for games. Also a good selection of anime.

This is a pretty kick butt store! I love playing the game Magic the Gathering and they have a really awesome selection of cards. They sell everything from packs, to card holders, to some of the rare cards. The prices can get kinda pricey, but that's too be expected at a store like this.
