There is a bit of everything here. The prices are wide range depending on what you are looking for. I know this is not the only location around, but this is the Ankeny location. There is a ton in here. I haven't looked at everything in this store but some things are comic books, board games, action figures, vinyl, toys, game system accessories. I was there to see if they wanted purchase something from me. They have a space in the back where they will take and see if they will buy off you. They offer cash and store credit. They entire store has a great vibe. Even though I didn't purchase something this time I left with a smile on my face and knowledge that I would be back.

When it comes to retro and vintage items, you can always find exactly what you're looking for on sites like eBay. The fun part of Jay's, is not knowing what you want and just browsing. More times than not, I don't buy anything from this location. The selection of items is usually better at the other locations. That's the only reason it's not a 5-star rating for me. Value wise, I think their prices rival eBay, and you can buy it on the spot instead of waiting for shipping. Staff always seems friendly and helpful also.

I met owner Andrew Freeman on my initial visit, and he has a passion for card collecting. I'm a gaming and video novice, so I will focus on what I know: the baseball world. The store had numerous gaming customers who appeared happy with his selection, but it's a foreign environment to this baseball dude. There is plenty of parking, and it is easily reached from DSM metro, Ames, and Ankeny. Cool space, areas to get comfy and browse various elements. Open Tuesday through Sunday. I enjoyed browsing some of his better cards, as Freeman has a good eye for talent and ratings. It's not easy to find a Gretzky, Jordan, Aaron, or Griffey Jr card in this area, and he plenty of them, including a lot of $1 cards that brought smiles to my face. I bought a few of my baseball buddies' early cards for fun. I look forward to seeing this store's trajectory, as I like the overall store vibe, and Freeman's card passion was evident.

We took a min to look up comps on our phone and approached the owner asking if we were able to buy the cards but negotiate before hand. He said that was fine doing so and we showed him comps and asked if he would sell around or near those comps and he flat out refused and started to get upset with us and even took the cards and slid them across the table and said it's off the table a min after talking over prices. Was extremely unprofessional and condescending his attitude towards especially my wife. recommend going there unless you're looking to pay well worth over comps and have the owner get upset with you in the process.
