We have had no problems with them. They are easy to pack, lead and take care of at camp. I would rather hike than ride a horse, but I would rather not hike carrying a 50 lb. backpack. The llamas are perfect for me. Bill is great to work with. He is always on time to meet you at the trailhead when you are going in and especially when you come out of the wilderness after a long week and are ready for a cold beer.

The Jeep Rubicon we rented was just what we needed to get around. We headed out to Yankee Boy basin on the evening we received the Jeep. Then we headed out in the morning and went up Old Ophir pass on the way to Telluride. Very beautiful! Then after lunch we headed up corkscrew gulch up to Lake Como and Las Animas on down to Silverton. Not for the faint of heart! So much fun!!

My family and I booked a half-day jeep tour to visit Yankee Boy Basin with San Juan Jeep Tours…read more Before my trip to Ouray, I reviewed a few of the local tour outfitters, but after reading all the great reviews about San Juan Jeep Tours and finding out that they have been in business the longest - I was sold on this outfitter being the one. We arrived at 8:45AM for our 9AM start time and filled out our waivers and were directed to Keith's vehicle (an extended bed pickup truck with 3 bench seat rows). Our group consisted of 11 people (adults and kids) and we all fit within the seating without issue. Keith gave us a brief overview of the trip and we were off... Keith is a fantastic guide and made sure to stop at various spots along the tour to lend historical insights plus to allow the tour group to take photographs. About halfway up to the Yankee Boy Basin, the skies finally opened on us (had been a gray, overcast sky all morning). But Keith and the San Juan Jeep Tour outfit was prepared! Keith doled out ponchos to all of the tour group, plus put a tarp over the open seating area in about 45 seconds flat!!! Luckily the rain stopped about 45 minutes later, and the tarp came off... to showcase the absolute beauty of Yankee Boy Basin! The return trip to Ouray (from the Basin) took about 45 minutes and we were back where we started just before 1PM. Again folks... I cannot recommend this tour outfitter enough! Plus, if you can get onto a tour with Keith - you will be in for a treat! And please, please tip your tour guide(s) appropriately!

This national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan ancestral sites in the United States (nps) - it celebrates people. The snowy peaks in the background is San Juan Mountain. We visit multiple Mesa Top Sites, (900-1100, nps). MTS means top archeological sites within this park. We first stop at the Far View Terrace Cafe for bathroom break and also pick up our lady guide; then driving up north, stopping at the PitHouse, ending the tour at the information & research center in early afternoon about 2pm, that includes an hour lunch at Far View Terrace Cafe, with a wonderful view. Two other cafes are the Spruce Tree Terrace Cafe, and the Knife Edge Cafe. The Cliff Palace is impressive. But the tour didn't take us there - only viewed it from afar. I actually bought a mug that changes with heat and a pretty conch bangle from the gift shop. The information center is cool; the museum is ok.

It is still a rough ride, and climbing into the car isn't the easiest, so keep that in mind. Driving up the switchbacks is quite nerve-wracking, come prepared and with a sense of adventure. Our tour guide was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the history of the landscape. They stop periodically and let you get out to walk around and take photos. I believe we saw the peak of the waterfalls, tail-end of snow melt season. Not sure what they look like at other times of the year! Telluride is beautiful even not during ski-season! I absolutely recommend a June trip to this cute town.
