This would have tasted amazing if they would have heated it up.

The atmosphere and service were wonderful. The waitress, an older lady, was very kind and welcoming. She was prompt with our orders and serving of chips and salsa. The chips lacked flavor and with the addition of salt tjey were decent. Unfortunately, the food was not heated up and served cold. It was cooked, but cold. I understand that food needs to be precooked and then assembled. However, they did not prepare the burrito as ordered leaving out the beans, avacado, and sour cream. To make matters worse the burrito was cold, absent of all heat. We were afraid to complain about it so my husband ate it anyways. My dish was mediocre and I ate the rice but the beans were cold and the birria (meat) was cold and too liquidity. I just opted to eat the tortillas and rice. We were never brought refills of our waters but we did have 2 tables of guests with us so perhaps they didn't think we needed it. We would definitely give the restaurant another chance because it was a nice, clean, and authentic Mexican restaurant. I would just ask that the food be heated up, maybe.

    Children's burrito

This is the first time I have been here since Covid. It is located in Grass Valley in the same large shopping center as Raleys....Pet Smart..India Oven..Dollar Tree..and more. PROS: I ordered to go at 3 pm today...not very busy at this time. I like that they have a children's menu for my nieces visiting me. They no longer have the complimentary salsa bar...it has been replaced by a full bar instead. One children's plate with enchilada and rice and beans was 7.50. The children's plate with bean and cheese burrito (very big!) Was 6.00. Both my relatives liked it but my niece said the bean burrito tasted like Taco Bell! I did not order any of their adult meals so I cannot comment on that...but they did look good! The food came out quickly. I did get a small basket of chips and salsa to go (free with order). Chips were warm but a bit stale for my liking. Salsa was great and not too spicey. CONS: I ordered a glass of white wine while waiting for my order to be prepared. I get the bill and it was 6.99! I asked the waitress if I had ordered a mixed cocktail how much would it be...only 3.50! I think they have the drink prices backwards! They also have happy hour on Tuesdays.. It is clean and there is outdoor seating. I love Mexican food..this was just average.

    Birria tacos

First time trying Mayas & we were pleasantly surprised. We did an online order for carry out & upon pickup the staff were friendly and helpful. My fiancé loved the Birria tacos & is happy to know we have these nearby. We also had the chicken tostada & chicken nacho fries. Both were packed with flavor & lots of fresh toppings! The dishes were a lot bigger than expected. We got a side of the rice & beans which were pretty delicious! The refried beans have a pretty savory taste compared to most Mexican restaurants but they weren't too over powering. The queso dip is amazing & the salsa is fresh. Mayas has the best Horchata that we have ever had! Unlike most places it wasn't grainy, overly sweet or too milky. Every sip was smooth, full of cinnamon & the right amount of sweet. ( this is a must have with every order moving forward) The restaurant itself is quaint, clean & has a nice bar for customers to sit back and relax. We have lived near Mayas for 2 years & are happy to have given it a try. Supporting local restaurants & trying new things did not disappoint!!

    fajita salad with shrimp

The entry and the division between ordering takeout and dining in seemed a bit awkward. Once seated, I was given chips and salsa. The salsa was spectacular. The chips were average and obviously made offsite. The guy managing the front door and takeout orders was also waiting on me at a nearby table. He took my order without issue. I ordered a shrimp fajita salad that was beyond excellent. All of the ingredient were fresh and nicely seasoned. The lettuce, tomato, cucumbers and avacado were cool, crisp and fresh. The fajita vegies were warm, crisp and fresh. The shrimp was plentiful and delicious. It was one of the best salads I have had in many years.

Quality of food was the issue. Dry carne asada and stale nachos. Mexican food is really difficult to mess up, but you managed to do it.

We found the food to be very good. Living close to the Mexican border we give Maya's high marks on food. Service a bit slow.

The employees are warm and friendly ( Grass Valley vibe ). We ordered our usual steak fajitas with all the complementary salsas. The dish also comes with rice and beans. I asked for alittle extra sear on the meat and it was perfect! The salsas..especially the habanero was spicy! They have many salsas and they are top notch! All so fresh! We had leftovers as usual and a very happy puppy in a nice shaded patio! Don't miss this place!

No refills on drinks, empty water cups. It took at least half an hour of us being done with our food to receive our check and in the meantime we sat around thirsty wondering where the help went. Stale chips taste like they came from a bag and the salsa was mediocre at best. We were sat outside and they couldn't decide if they wanted the patio open or covered, which was distracting and inconvenient. My husband and I ordered one Cadillac margarita, one Bloody Mary, two shots of Tequila Cazadores, one shot of Tito's, and the taquitos appetizer that is bland and boring AF. $83 before tip. And the shots? I wish I would have taken a picture because they might have been one ounce at best and they were $10 a piece! Absolutely trash designer Mexican food. Please steer clear of this place!! If you are in the area and want legit drinks and Mexican food, check out Katarina's in Alta Sierra.

They have a huge selection of authentic specialty food items, a takeout restaurant, party decor, home decor, and jewelry--- like you don't even have to go to Mexico. The staff is also the nicest, and in case you need English spoken, they do! I had a housewarming party coming up for about 45 people, so I had El Barrio cater for us without even first trying their food. (I know, crazy, right?) I'd fallen in love with the whole vibe of the store that I wanted to support them, so I took a chance. And I am SO GLAD I did! We ordered 45 taco entrees with 3 types of meat plus 2 types of salsas, rice and beans (--and omg, those pinto beans are to die for)! Every bite of the entree was delicious, and my guests were huge fans, too. We had SO much food left over that most of my guests took some to-go and we STILL had a ton left; luckily we'd bought a bunch of Tupperware just for this reason! I wish I had taken photos of the store and our catered food, but I just wanted to be in the moment and enjoy. Next time I go there maybe I'll record a video of the store and post it here. Till then, you'll have to go for yourself, and I hope you do!
