Mermaid Nina's friend, Pinky Plankton, guided us on a lovely boat ride to search for Nina. Pinky made the ride fun - interacting with the children, and educated us all about how to protect our oceans. The boat ride was an hour and fifteen minutes. The perfect amount of time for young children. The boat is comfortable and holds approximately 20 to 25 people. Once Nina was found, she stayed in character the entire time. Even when the evil Professor Al G tried to kidnap her. Nina explained how to protect the ocean and encouraged questions from children and adults too. When I was scheduling this excursion, I thought it was a little pricey, but after the experience was over (and watching how much fun my daughter had) I changed my mind and realized it was worth every penny! Our guide, Chris, was knowledgeable of the local salt marsh, wildlife, and history of bluffton. We enjoyed our paddle down to the old town public dock and looped back down the may river. We saw dolphins, various coastal bird species, and other various marine and salt marsh life. We taken plenty of tours and felt Chris went the extra mile- providing waters, thick towels for cooling our necks, and was even was so kind as to let us use her binoculars! PS - She's a great photographer! 2) We also did a boat cruise and tubing tour with Captain Hunter as we had several friends join us day 2. He was also a great captain and guide - knowledgable, funny, and very understanding of the various comfort levels with participating in tubing on the may river. Most importantly, this was a unique tour experience. You drive your own little two person speedboat and follow the tour guide, and these boats move much faster than I expected. Our tour was a little modified because some rain was coming through the area, but we still got to see dolphins. We were in a calm river and were right up close to them at one point. The tour begins with safety instructions. Then, Ryan takes you to many very interesting places in the area and is quite knowledgeable about the sea life and the land around. He gave us exciting History and facts. Ryan pointed out dolphins and told us cool facts. He knew the birds we saw too. We even saw a shark. Ryan gave us an hour on Vanishing Island. That was a great place to be. Just knowing that high tide would put the island completely underwater was a little weird. Ryan is an expert captain. He has years of experience. I recommend that when in Hilton Head, you take a ride on his boat.
