I tried to get 5' of angle iron and square tubing from several larger shops and nobody was willing to cut their stock to help me out. I was kindly directed to one scrap pile after another, with no luck. Douglas at Allied Iron was more than happy to help me out. Even though I didnt know exactly what I needed (and screwed up my measurements), he was patient and ultimately got me exactly what I needed. I needed some sun kissed boulders with more angles and some interesting aquamarine coloring. Yez had one of the workers bring down a container full of such boulders from the back top row and personally helped me pick out what I wanted, going as far as removing the top layers of boulders one by one by hand in order to get to the described boulders beneath the top layers. And these boulders were heavy! Yez said Lyngso always strive to provide great service to all their customers. And Yez definitely did. I will definitely go to Lyngso for my gardening materials.

However, after having my new fiberglass door from Pioneer Millwork (AKA Belmont Door and Window) installed, what did I discover? They sold me a warped door. I informed Glenn, the salesperson, of the problem which my installer confirmed. Glenn then stated the the manufacturer has a "warp tolerance" of up to 1/4", and therefore Pioneer would take no action. So now I'm stuck with a door that protrudes 3/16" outward from the jamb in one corner. I expected more from this shop and I'm shocked by their indifference to their customers. They are more interested in pleasing their suppliers. If you have high expectations I recommend you go elsewhere.

However, when I was a kid, my dad would take me with him to the hardware store, and I would get a lollypop while he and whomever from behind the counter would wander around looking for an eyebolt or the right shade of caulk. Giulio- who I assume is the owner, is easily 10 years older than my mom, who lives in the assisted living up the street. My mom can't be bothered to go to the chair yoga we're paying for, but Giulio went to work. He's not totally mobile, but he knows his s#!t. Whenever I come in, he or whoever else is behind the counter is happy to chat through my issue and suggest something. It's not a Home Depot- so they may not have what you're looking for every time- but they have a lot of things, and it makes me happy to know my money is staying local. Also, side story: One day during the summer, it's like 90, and I am behind a contractor who's getting a bunch of stuff - lumber, rocks...I don't know- but he's paying for it, and he grabs some water bottles for him and his crew and puts them on the counter. Giulio totals him up and says a number; the guy says, "Oh, don't forget these waters". Giulio says, "The town where I come from in Italy has the best water in the world, and it flows right off the mountain.
