Great basic nail place in Sonoma. They don't try and upsell you or anything annoying. All the nail techs I've had have been very competent although they all have their different skills - some are excellent massagers, some are better at the cuticle work. Sometimes it's sorta wham-bam-thank-you-m'am and other times it's really relaxed. But for a $25 pedi I'm willing to accept some variation. read more

Stopped in with no reservation. To my surprise, one of the best long lasting pedicures I've ever had. The gentleman who did my pedicure was very friendly and really, really, really good. He didn't rush through or chop off half my skin nor make anything bleed/burn. This is my "go to" place to have my nails done. I go every 2-3 wks. They always fit me in. Staff is friendly. Ive never seen them turn anyone down even when theyre busy. They do fabulous work and if theres a problem they fix it. A bit more costly than other salons but id rather pay a bit more for the quality. read more

I have visited this salon numerous times and have always enjoyed their service. And my nails have always looks great. My recent experience, however, was unpleasant and I will not be going back. Granted, my nails look great, but when the technician trimmed my toenails, he cut my skin with the clippers and it bled and was painful. But carried on poking and prodding--making it hurt worse. Because they needed a new seat, they had me sit by the front door, while my toenail polish dried enough to put on the top-coat. Well, I only got the top-coat on my right foot because the technician was called away. By that time I was a bit fed up and left, picking up a bottle of top-coat on my way home. For sure a no frills place, but they still have all of the essentials for nails. I went for the first time, and decided I would stick to a simple manicure. $16, complete with a great hand and arm massage. My cuticles were in pretty bad shape, but now my nails look and feel wonderful. I went on a Tues morning, and the place was pretty crowded. Just about everyone who I noticed coming in were walk-ins, and they were able to take everyone immediately. The people were wonderful, super nice, and very helpful. I cant WAIT to go back for a mani pedi ( btw, i noticed a pedicure is $27...they put rose petals and lemons in the tub, and looked to spend some serious time scrubbing and massaging, of course complete with massage chair too). The ONLY reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it is a little toned down, this is not an elegant spa type place, although I am sure the service is just as good! read more

I actually could give this place 5 stars. They are super clean, very friendly, have a HUGE collection of the latest OPI as well as the old classics and they do a solid job on manis and pedis. I wouldn't go as far as calling this "no-frills" like some have commented. They put rose petals in the water and the place is intentionally decorated. I've been to worse! My ONLY complaint is that if you get a mani-pedi, they charge full price for both and that bugs me. Normally you pay another half of the pedi price for both, right? Especially if the mani is done while you're getting your pedi. It's not quite as full-serve as when you're sitting down at the table. But whatever, it's my nail place now!!! read more

I called at 5:45, they close at 6:30 which was a Saturday. I'm 9 months pregnant and I really needed to pamper myself. They said to come on over. I had the best mani/ pedi in a really long time and I had a great massage which lasted 15 minutes at least with nice hot stones. No rush at all! I really appreciated that. Also very sanitary. They keep their tools nicely packaged for each customer and the tubs have disposable liners to throw out after each customer. That is huge as I'm always afraid of infection when I get my nails done . Love this place! I've been a customer for over 5+ years off and on. I was here about 2 weeks ago with my two step daughter, and it was again amazing! The girls loved their mani, and flower design. I get gels, and I cant remeber her name, but its the main lady she AMAZING! My gels have been on for more then two weeks, and still look good! read more

The cleanliness factor is above other salons - with tub liners for pedis, disposable files, & tools sterilized in an autoclave, which is my main reason for using this salon. Some of the staff could use additional training in massage and a gentler touch. But overall, this is still my favorite place in Sonoma! read more

I've been wanting to do this review for a nail salon I have been using for some time now. The salon is called "Maxwell Nails in Sonoma. The people and services are exceptional. One of the things I love most about this salon is that there is not a TV and the pedicures, manicures, etc...are fabulous! You have nice music in the background and it's very relaxing. They never rush through your pedicure or any one of their services because of walk in customers. They honor your presence and simply will not rush you in and out. I've been to salons in the past where they rush through your treatment to get to the next customer I would recommend this salon to all. I used to be a big fan of this place and was so grateful that they moved into Sonoma. The last 3 times I have left not very happy with the quality of my nails. Manicure or Pedicure. They seem more interested in ignoring the owners husband than helping him give good customer service. They are in constant change as far as the facility goes and it seems to be more important than the customers satisfaction. I think I'll keep driving out of town for my nails from now on. read more

The remodel at Maxwell Nails looks great and today I tried Shellac nail polish for the first time. The process does take about 2 x's as long as a regular manicure but is supposed to last 2-3 times as long. My nails look great, very impressed with the results! read more

I've gone to Maxwell Nails several times for a mani pedi. But I'm so frustrated. I can't get through to some of the staff that I don't want them to clip my toe nails way down to the quick. Not only that, they file my toe nails AND finger nails so hard that my skin is raw and it hurts for days and has even bled. When I tell them to not do that, all they do is stop and say "sorry" and continue sawing away. I seriously don't think they understand. And I'm pretty sure I got a fungus from them. They made a big deal about getting those plastic liners, but I actually saw them take one from another bowl and put it in the next one over. Not very clean. Blech!!! read more

Maxwell nails has a new owner who is a wonderful young lady. I think she has owned it for about 6mo. It is THE BEST pedicure & manicure I have ever had, and I have been going every two wks since March. The salon is very clean and there is always calming music. playing. The best part is the massage you get. It varies from 5-10 min. each leg. I understand it was a busy Saturday afternoon but that does not give an excuse for the treatment I was given. My mother-in-law and I walked in for a mani-pedi, did not wait long but when we sat in the pedicure chair the water was freezing cold. One lady started working my my mother-in-laws toes while I waited 10 min to even have someone start helping me. So after my 10 min freezing cold foot bath a lady came up and just started working on me. I thought to myself ok its starting to get better then she starts painting my toes the wrong color. I then had to advise her that she had the wrong color and she rolled her eyes and started painting the right color. By then my mother in law has had her pedicure done and is now getting her manicure. The lady spent 10 min on me then moved me to a manicure station because they needed my chair for another person. I then sat there for 20 minutes until I finally said something to the manager. She then finished with her 4 clients (she was painting the girl next to me's nails, on top of 3 teenagers who were sitting in the waiting area.) Yes she was painting customers nails in the waiting area chairs (very unprofessional). After another 5 min of waiting she finally finished my nails after I bluntly explained that this was the worst service I had ever received. My mother-in-law was contemplating painting my nails just so we could get out of there. The manager apologized in a very passive aggressive way and then had the audacity to charge us full price for the visit ($86). If it wasn't for the table of police officers outside I would have walked out if not demanded a discount. Long story short DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. They are over priced and are more worried about making money than customer service. This isn't my first rodeo with a Salon either. I would suggest going to another place just for your own peace of mind. To the manger if you read this work on your attitude as well as your customer service. For the price you are charging and they service your customers are getting I will never be going to you again and will be letting everyone I know how bad of a place you have. read more

I've been going to this place for awhile now, and every time I leave I'm not completely satisfied. After this last visit, I'm so frustrated that I'm not returning. I went in for a pedicure on a thursday afternoon, and it wasn't busy. I was looking forward to a relaxing scrub, and massage. I really do love their water with the rose petals and lemon, so I was looking forward to soaking my feet a little, but the woman who did my pedicure was in such a rush, I was only able to dip my foot in and off to work she went. the work she did on my feet lasted a total of 3 min on each foot. she barely touched me feet with the scrubber, or with the brush, she looked over my cuticles and snipped at a few of my toes--and I really needed all of them to be done. She slapped on the exfoliation scrub and swirled it around the top of my feet for a few seconds and then I was done. Gave me a very light massage, and polished my toes fairly well. I was then rushed off to the waiting chairs, and I felt so much more stressed than when I came in. I wanted to say something, but I've tried on several occasions and it's really not worth your while to complain. It's more of a headache, they will always come back with something to make it seem like you don't know what you are talking about. It seems as if the owner is loosing sight of customer service and just wants to fill the salon with bodies to work on. I felt like a number. Last time I'm going there. read more

I have been going to Maxwell Nails regularly for over 2 years. The fact that no one bothered to learn my name after using their services for that long aside, the service lately has been dismal. It's just getting worse. The young man doing my pedicure last time rubbed the side of my foot raw until it bled. He wasn't paying attention ....the manicurist had to ask him to get antiseptic and a band aid. The gel manicure lifted in a couple of days. I don't know what has happened to their service, but I will not use them again. read more

Prices keep going up and they are very inconsistent with their pedicures. The owner keeps bringing in new inexperienced kids that don't really know what they are doing. Pedicure chipped the day after I got it which my pedicures other places last for several weeks. Also while I was getting my manicure two of her employees sat there hovering over me watching and talking about my horrible cuticles. So incredibly embarrassing, rude and not relaxing when I'm trying to enjoy my manicure. This place has gone way down hill now that they get so many clients. It is always super busy and they do an ok job, but the price keeps creeping up and it just isn't amazing for how many people rave about it. They have a ton of people working there and the quality of your mani/pedi definitely depends on who does your work. Also, as several people said, several staff members might as well be asleep when they are doing your leg massages when you get a pedi. They put on a timer so that you are always getting the same amount of massage, but who cares if the person doing the massage is just staring off into space lightly rubbing your leg. I almost told them to stop and just move on with the pedi last time I was there. I wish I could find a better option in Sonoma, but have had a hard time, so Maxwell Nails gets my business as a default. read more
