I go to this nail salon whenever I need a pedi and have always had a fantastic result. They do get busy, of course, as all service places in Sonoma do, particularly on the weekends, but their service and attention to detail is very consistent. They pay particular attention to hygiene which I appreciate. I have to give a shout out to Lee, who does the absolute best foot massage ever! I'm always jealous when my mom gets Lee instead of me if we go together. The salon recently underwent a remodel and it looks fresh and fantastic! Average. I guess I'd go again if I were desperate. The tools appeared clean, the basins were lined. There is considerable polish slip on my pinky. My toes still had a lot of rough dead skin. I took my 13 year old granddaughter here for acrylic nails with custom drawings. She was very happy with the results as were all of her friends and random people. I've never written a review for anything before but felt I had to give the ladies at Maxwell Nails some props. I have the worst time keeping my nails looking nice. Between horses, small construction projects at home and work, my manicures don't last even a day or two. Then I found Maxwell Nails and the dip powder manicure. My hands have never been prettier*** and the dip powder mani is tougher than my lifestyle. I highly recommend it to the ladies whose horses, projects, etc. take 1st place but you still want to be able to show your hands in public with pride. ***No pics at this time I'm getting them re done next week so I'll try to post results. read more

In and out in less than 20 minutes for a pedicure. Hardly cleaned my nails. Massage was only a few minutes and so light it was annoying. I asked for more pressure and the man Saud yes but it was awful. No base coat. Place was dirty. Equipment was old. Towels stained. Do not go there. read more

Horrendous salon. If you like a touch of something remotely resembling social skills and pride in their work, do not go here. I don't get pedicures very often, but have never had one without at least a smile or hello from the staff. Mai worked on me and did not look at me or say hello or smile. All she did was hit my feet when she wanted me to move them to the stool. The foot/leg massage was so light that it tickled. Then she walked away and just left me in the chair when she was done. Didn't say anything or let me know that she was finished. When I asked if she was done, the manger came over and asked me how it was so I said OK and pointed out the flaws. She then spent 10 minutes fixing it. I mentioned that she should train the staff so she wouldn't have to fix their work. I have never had such an unpleasant pedicure experience. read more

My husband and I are very happy with Maxwell nails. All the girls are very nice and do a great job. My husband and I have our favorite ladies that we use and when we call to book we are always accommodated. We appreciate the liners they use in the pedi tubs and they have extras such as hot rock message when they do pedi's which are really nice. I get a gel manicure, my nails and cuticles always look great when my nail tech is done and the polish always lasts for at least two weeks. In fact I usually go in due to my nails growing out not issues with the gel. The gal I use is the best that I have found. read more

Look I hate giving such low rating, but it's accurate and this is accumulated from all of my visits. I'm not a regular; I would come in every once in a while to treat myself. I found it to be a very uncomfortable treatment each time. All of my pedicures were rushed, and the cleaning around my nails wasn't ever done; they would always just kind of pretend by going down every toe and acting like they were perfect. (Which I can tell you they weren't that's why I was there. ) They would just touch each one and not cut anything off. The massage was fine, but the salt scrub was literally put on my legs and rinsed off right as soon as it was put on. I really liked the fact that they had liners that's why I kept going back for my pedicures, but finally I've given up since I'm not a regular they will never give me the same treatment they give to their regulars and I can say this because I've seen it with my own eyes. I always made sure to give a really nice tip($8-10) so maybe they would remember me for next time too, but that never happened I'm done with this place. read more

A Co-Worker and I treated ourselves to a mani/pedi yesterday as a little holiday treat. Neither one of us were impressed with the service nor our nails. The lady helping me even gave me a dirty look when I asked her to remove the left over paint from the skin on my toes. I offered to do it for her as she seemed busy but she did not take me up on my offer.... Both services were rushed and I was not even offered paraffin wax and my co-worker had to ask for it. Great little salon in Sonoma. We wanted to get our nails done last minute and everywhere else said they were booked up. Based on the ratings we weren't sure what to expect. When we walked in, it looked very nice and we were greeted by extremely friendly people. The receptionist is incredible and remembered everyone (even those who said they hadn't been in for months) by name. Our nail techs were friendly too and did a great and fast job on our manicures. They used the equivalent polish of 3 coats with their 2 coats so our nails looked like gel without being gel and lasted for weeks. If we are back in Sonoma, we are coming here every time! read more

This place used to be amazing! However not so much anymore. I live in Sonoma and visit Maxwell nails a couple times a year. I love the hot rocks they use for the pedicure massage. The staff is super friendly other than the owner. She's just rude not just to her customers but also to her employees and most employees have been working for her for 10+ years. If your looking for a quick nail job this place will do but expect to be rushed and not relaxed. read more

Update: Stars downgraded from 3 to 1 -- After a difficult time taking off the "clear coat" my nails on one hand are rough with many knicks and scratches from the removal of the shellac using the electric drimmel. The other hand that the device wasn't used on was left with a much smoother surface. Unfortunately it will take quite some time to repair my nailbeds. I am very disappointed. If only the manicurist would have taken time to provide me with high quality service rather than rushing through because it was the end of the day and more people were waiting. Definitely not returning to this salon. Not a great experience, will probably be the last time I go there. Went to have shellac taken off and get a regular manicure with a buff shine. Shellac was taken off then I was told she can't buff my nails because they are too thin now. So she applied a "clear coat" which is really a sheer pink. I'm ok with that, except that less than 24 hours later it's already chipping and taking layers of my already thin nails with it. I also don't appreciate that I was charged extra to have shellac taken off without the additional charge being listed on their price board. read more

I used to love coming here but then I showed up with my friend, we settled into our chairs to enjoy our pedicures and got to chatting. Pretty soon we noticed the workers in front of us would look at me, chuckle and then talk about me amongst themselves. This went on for awhile. I wish I had asked them what was so funny. Sadly, my quest for a steady nail salon continues... Pros: GREAT massage chairs, really nice staff, excellent foot massage, clean salon, etc... Cons: the oldest, most boring magazine collection I've encountered since my last doctor's appointment (not that big of a deal), THINNED OUT NAIL POLISH (GRR!!) that left my toenails looking super tacky . Unfortunately, I chose a dark red color that ended up looking awful: watery, transparent patches all over, etc.... Why Maxwell Nails, WHY? Just throw the polish out when it gets old and goopy; don't thin it out. What did it cost? Two dollars wholesale?? Your customers deserve better. read more

Not really a fan. I wanted to like this place because it's close to my work and convenient but the service just wasn't worth it. I went on a lunch break and was disappointed by the quality of what I got. I asked the lady to trim my toe nails and she basically cut them down to the skin which I was not happy about. The paint job was sub-par and they massaged my legs for about 1 minute and the salon itself isn't very relaxing. I have a usual place I go and pay the same amount for a 10 minute leg massage and the people who work there are amazing at all types of nail services so I think I'll stick with that. read more

I came here with my bridemaids before my wedding. This place is busy and seriously non-stop busy. Even though it's busy, I didn't think they compromised on the quality of work. At least we didn't feel rushed. Cleaniness - it's OK clean. It's at least you should expect for a nail salon. However, I sat next to the restroom and the smell did come out whenever someone opens the restroom door. The towels they used were OK clean. It's a Vietnamese joint so I would'nt be nip-picking the quality. Efficiency - there was a 10-kids birthday party before us and we got 7 girls altogether. We got in at 1:30pm (they were nice enough to take us 30 minutes before the appointed time), and left at 4:00'ish pm. During that time, the chairs and tables were never empty - it was busy. Salon - no decor and no nothing. You wouldn't feel being pampered while here. Technicians - they are nice and friendly. But this does not say much about the experience. Quality of work - the quality of work was not bad. I did a french and I like how it looked, except for that I did like the pink polish used on the nail. But it was my bad, I should have said something Problem - the problem came 1 week after I got the nails done. I needed a polish change. However, I was not able to remove anything off the nail. I went to another salon and the lady asked me what kind of nail polish was it on my nails? It freaked me out because the thing just glued on my nails and it took a long time to take it off. The new manicurist has to pretty much filed the polish off which must have done some damage to my nail. It's been another week and I am not able to do any polish because I thought I should let my nail breathe a bit. I definitely will not come back since I don't live in Sonoma. If you have a big bridal party, you can consider this place because they are fast and can handle large group. read more

There aren't many good places in Sonoma to get nails done. The shop is comfortable, clean and friendly. The quality of manicures and pedicures are not the best. If I had more choices this would not be a top choice. There are many better places in Santa Rosa and Petaluma. read more

I have been going here for a while up until last year when I started exploring other nail salons. Why they charge $27 for a pedicure is a mystery when the standard price is still $25. In a pinch the other day when my new go-to place was fully booked I came here. The chair they put me in was broken, the remote on the chair looked like a dog had chewed it up. The water was shallow and cold (they did ask about the temp and warmed it up). As I sat there looking around I noticed how filthy and run down the place was. The person doing my nails was friendly but rough. When I left I noticed blood around my big toe. Thats it for me. I will not be going back - even in a pinch. read more

I left with a dent in my shellac, which was somehow my fault before I had even left the chair, towels in my lap, and was rushed out the door. Needless to say, I probably won't be coming back. The good part is they take drop ins and I've never had to wait long. I've been here about 6 times in the last 18-24 months. But my last two pedicures have been very disappointing. The last time the person asked if I wanted my nails trimmed and I replied, "Yes, just a little". She trimmed my toenails very short and round, and my big toe down the sides to where I was concerned I'd get an ingrown toenail. It was as if she tried to make them something they weren't. I've never had to watch them and tell them what to do before, and this same person has given me a pedicure in the past. So today I was much more observent. I told this employee (not the same as last time) to only trim a little and keep them square, not rounded. She seemed to get it, but as she was working on the cuticle she kept digging down the side of my big toe. My polish was very worn, but my feet weren't that bad. I complained later that my toe was red and sore, when she was working on them. She said she had to trim the skin. I replied that she cut it way down and I was concerned I would get an ingrown toenail. She said, "it is not ingrown, it was the skin and I had to cut it back". It was as if she didn't want to hear my concerns. Again, it's as if she wanted to shape my toenails into something they aren't, to make them dainty and round -- which is not my toes; never will be, never was. I left very unhappy. One big toe has a bit of a scab down deep along the side of the nail and the toe is red and sore. The other big toe is also tender. Then right after she finished painting my nails and tidying up her station, she came over and started to put on my sandals. I tried to stop her saying my sandals opened up with velcro entirely. I wear these specifically to make it easy after a pedicure. She continued to proceed and told me not to watch. Then the owner came over and told me the same. I told her the sandals opened up entirely and there was no need for her to try to slip them onto my foot with wet nails. The owner said she didn't want me to try to put them on myself. The odd part was I sat in the chair another 20 minutes or so, so there should have been no rush. Now as I look closer at my toe and try to take a photo and get a very close view of it, I see just how red my toes are and some polish left on the edge of my toes -- just poor workmanship. All in all, it was not a good experience. I won't go back. read more
