There's an inside joke in our family about Max's Restaurant. We call it "Tatay's Choice." We know it's best to avoid it on Father's Day because family patriarchs would be requesting to eat there that day. Even our own dad loves Max's. He's usually on our side when picking a restaurant for Sunday lunch (and we usually like trying new ones), but when he says we're going to Max's, nobody contradicts him... Well, most of the time.
I think it's because this restaurant embodies the best qualities of Filipino dads; humble, unassuming and dependable. Regardless of what branch you go to, the taste of the food is always topnotch. My personal favorite is the Camaron Rebosado. I love its puffy crunchiness. I devour it as if I'm not allergic to shrimps. Their shanghai rolls are good too. And should I even talk about the chicken? Their fried chicken is probably the best in the country; fried to perfection and humbly paired with rice, or their kamote fries and dipped in banana ketchup. Simple yet very tasty.
What varies per branch is the service, I guess. This particular branch near Alabang Town Center was quite slow. We went there on a holiday and there were a lot of customers; but it was like only three people were on-duty that and the rest were hiding in the kitchen. I know we were a bit early for lunch, but that shouldn't even matter because they're already open for breakfast. read more
