They are always low on bagels or out by 9am been there 25 times can't be a fluke, wouldn't it be better to donate or trash the extras and have merch to sell? My elderly dad used to come here every morning for a bagel and shmear (little smear of cream cheese), so I have fond memories of Max's. It is a treat for me to eat out lunch and a bigger treat to have a fresh bagel! But when I went to Max's yesterday I was very disappointed. They had run out of all salads, and I wanted a tuna, or chicken, or egg salad on a bagel. There were hardly any bagels. Ok, that's good because their food must be fresh, so they don't sell yesterday's stuff. So I asked for a turkey Swiss on a bagel. With onion and tomato. I took a picture of what I got. A "thin" bagel (I'm from NYC so bagels are big there) with literally one slice of turkey and tomato and onion. And no Swiss. For $6.99. I asked the server if that's how much they give on a $6.99 sandwich. If that's what management directs them to do. She said yes, one ounce of turkey and Swiss. I expressed disappointment and she put on the Swiss and offered more turkey, which I did refuse because I was disgusted with their policy. Kudos to her. She was nice and accommodating). I left a note for the manager expressing my displeasure of a $7 sandwich with so little meat, and for that price I could have gotten a real sandwich from Jersey Mike's next Door, and I asked her to call. Which she did today. She said they give so little meat because more than that would be difficult for their patrons to put their mouths around. ??? For $7? She said I should have asked for more turkey/cheese on my sandwich. She offered me another sandwich I asked how much a bagel costs. She said $1.40. I pointed out the sandwich should cost way less than $7 then. $5.60 For a total of two slices of meat and cheese? So: Ridiculous and cheap and what's up with accommodating patrons with less food to help them more comfortably eat. So my advice is to ask them for more stuff on your bagel sandwich, hopefully for free, or spend your $7 elsewhere for a real sandwich. PS. I never write reviews this long. I have been going to this location for over 12 years. The bagel used to be fantastic. Stopped by yesterday at approximately 10:00 am. This time they were average at best. The bagels are smaller, denser (not in a good way) and tasted like they were a day old. Not sure what has changed either ownership, recipe, or the baker but clearly the bagel quality is sub par at best. You will get a better bagel at Publix across the street. read more

Yeah sure. A bagel is a bagel. But this particular business is run by people who are very unhappy and look like they hate their jobs. If you ask for too much, they roll their eyes. I ordered my bagel after this one woman did, and she never got her last bagel. Upon explaining this to the woman behind the counter, the counter woman began to yell; telling this lady that it was her fault she didn't account for all the bagels when she got her bag. Which is a disgusting answer to give when you work in CUSTOMER SERVICE. People were staring as this poor woman just wanted her bagel remade so she can be in her way with her family. Yea. The food is good. But when you run a business, who you have working for you as the face of your company matters more than the owners stand to realize. Max's is usually my favorite bagel spot in town, their everything bagel with veggie cream cheese is amazing! My husband loves the Western. Skip the chicken salad, it is somewhat mediocre. This place is dirty & run down. The air vents are filled with dirt, dust, & mold! The floors look like they half ass sweep & mop them as there is dirt and dead bugs in the corners and window sills. Some of the chairs/stools are falling apart. It makes me cringe to think of what the kitchen conditions must look like... It is too bad because the bagels taste good! That is why I give it a 2 star instead of a 1. We ordered a bagel and cream cheese and a eggs, cheese bagel sandwich & 2 large OJs - it was $16.17 - that is not outrageous but it is not cheap either - so affording to pay to get the place clean seems like it should be in the budget. This has to be the slowest, most unprofessional, unfriendly business I've been to in Martin county. If I wasn't hungover I would not have had the patience to stay. Many years ago we went to Max's frequently and loved their food and coffee. Always top notch. Then they got rid of my favorite bagel (red pepper, yummmm) and so I didn't go back for many years. I figured I'd give it a try today and wow do I regret that choice. The bagels are tiny, and nothing but a salt-fest. Way way too salty, tasted like a pretzel, so if you're into that, then you'll probably love them. I was charged a $.30 "gourmet fee" which I can only guess is because I asked them to leave off the tomatoes. If I had known they were going to do that, I would have picked them off and thrown them away myself but that seemed like a waste. Service was mediocre. The place felt depressing and looked dingy.
