    Carnitas burrito

Holy wow!! We stopped by Maximo's for a quick lunch and boy were we pleasantly surprised!! Great tasting and huge portions! The store was nice and clean with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Their chips are clearly homemade there and were fantastic! Carnitas burrito was flavorful and huge. And the carne asada nachos were absolutely spot on...lots of meat, nice amount of beans, fresh slices of avocado...so good! Definitely will return.

Chicken Cabbage Burrito Bowl (sans salsa)

Love the chicken cabbage bowl! Servings are huge. Takes awhile however so if you are in a rush, plan ahead!

Porterville has an abundance of Mexican restaurants. So there are many choices. When Maximos first opened, the prices seemed high. So after a visit or two I ignored this place for years. Today, when looking on their website, the prices seem reasonable and I gave it another try. They have a 3-taco deal for $5.99 on their website. I called for a take out and they charged me $6.99. Not too much of a big deal in the big scheme of things. I had the carne asada with everything on it. I asked for all 3 salsas. There was an jalapeno cilantro that had a good kick. Both the salsa roja (red) and salsa verde (green) were also superb in taste, mouth feel and appearance. The carne asada tacos were also very good. Excellent service. I will be going back. See my pictures.

This is the best mexican food we have had in a while. We arrived around 1:30pm on a Sunday. Staff were very friendly, even though it was super busy! We ordered a quesadilla (carnitas), asada fries, 2 sodas, chips, salsa, and guacamole and tres leches cake. 31 dollars out the door and I must say, the happiest 31 dollars I've spent in a while. This food is top notch, I mean moaning from satisfaction between bites GOOD! So many flavors I could feel the dopamine pumping in my brain! The carnitas quesadilla was the best carnitas I've had in years. Super cheesy, greasy, but in a good way. The carne asada fries were crispy, the carne asada cooked to perfection. The chips were fresh and crispy and the guacamole salsa was so good we went back and purchased more after the meal. The portions are large enough to fill a grown man's belly. My wife couldn't finish hers so we brought it home. It was so good she went back inside and tipped the staff. We will be coming back again and again, guaranteed.

This place was really great. I'm supper impressed with the quality of meat. They put a good portion of asada in my asada fries and it wasn't junk meat, I didn't find a single piece of fat or grizzle on my plate - it was ALL meat. The fries were super crispy, everything was well seasoned and very fresh. There were signs posted that prices had gone up because meat has gotten expensive, but I didn't think it was at all unreasonable for what they gave me. I was only visiting town so won't be able to visit often, but I'll be back!

Carnita quesadilla with a sharp piece of bone in it

Placed an order for pick up and was missing all the salsa for our food, including the chips and salsa let alone was $5.49. Called to verify and was told the carnitas quesadilla doesn't come with any sauce/salsa anymore. So I was just expected to eat dry ass meat with cheese and plain lettuce and tomatoes on the side? I had to use some of my co workers sour cream from the fridge at work to balance out the dryness. Hung up, but then noticed shortly after the receipt says otherwise. Called again, but this time they didn't answer. It was 10-15 mins prior to closing. Then, as I'm eating into my 2nd piece of quesadilla, I bit into something sharp and pulled this huge piece of bone out of my quesadilla! I almost died! Ruined my entire meal!!! Sorry, but never ordering from there again.

The food is alright, not worth the price. Yes you can go spend money elsewhere and get better quality. Maybe a "one time" thing.

We also decided to stop by again after our trip to Sequoia the day after lol. Both times, we ordered the same thing. I ordered the shrimp taco combo with an horchata and he ordered the quesabirria combo. The horchata was honestly really bland the first time around. Almost like cinnamon water. The tacos were very okay too. The shrimps were deep fried in a batter. Somehow though a couple of the shrimps were raw on the inside. The rice and beans were really good though. The quesabirria was good both times. The meat was really tender and juicy! The consume was my boyfriend's favorite part. It was ultimately the reason why we came back the second time lol. He said it was very flavorful while not being too heavy or greasy. The second time we came I was a little, disappointed in the service, which is the reason why I'm giving it 3 stars. While the tacos and the horchata came out phenomenal this time, I was kind of shocked to see that there was barely any shrimp in my tacos. I overheard the cook shout to the cashier that there was only enough shrimp for one taco. She went over to him and I honestly waited until she was going to come to me and ask if I maybe wanted something else for my second taco. I would have very easily said yes just give me a fish taco, but she never asked. I honestly thought maybe they figured it out... To my surprise the tacos had barely any shrimp. So they had decided to skimp out on my food... It's fine! We were only just stopping by. Just kind of sucks that happened lol.

Saw this place on the way home from the sequoias. Worth the stop wish one was closer to us.read more

You could tell they were made fresh, and whomever is the cook, knows how to season well. Service was on point and super attentive. They checked on me at least 4 times to make sure everything was good, which honestly made the whole experience even better. It's rare to see that kind of consistency in small local spots. The only thing I felt was missing was a more savory salsa to match those tacos. The one they gave me seemed like a salsa de chile de árbol -- spicy with good flavor, but I wished I had an extra salsa option that leaned more on the smoky or tangy side to balance out the richness of the gobernador. The place was quiet, comfortable, and relaxed -- no loud music or chaos, just a good spot to sit back and enjoy your food. Definitely worth a visit again. Next time, I might ask if they have any different salsas to try with those tacos.

I wouldn't say it was the best Molcajete I've ever experienced it it was good. What was really good were the beans and homemade corn tortillas. Those were the highlights.
