Maximo was definitely one of the highlights of our Mexico City trip! Loved the vibes and wine glasses were super unique. We loved the daily menus and the variety. Instead of getting the tasting we got many dishes to share and loved them all. House bread with the roasted eggplant dip was great. The octopus ceviche with mole and guacomole was great too. We especially loved the tempura soft shell crab with a mexican twist / flavor to it. We also really liked the jamon iberico which was a large generous portion. The roasted baby corn that everyone talked about was great though I didn't think this was the highlight of the meal. And lastly the oxtail pappardelle which left us stuffed. Definitely worth visiting and deserving of their 1 star!

Great dinner for our party of 8 for dinner. Overall, the dishes were pretty solid. Main disappointment was the service - kinda felt they were just throwing dishes at us to finish. Drinks were good, ambiance is stunning as the interior is wide grand and spacious. Wouldn't come again for dinner. Lunch, maybe.

I tried this place during my first time visiting Mexico City because it was on all the lists of fine dining restaurants to try. The ambience was very romantic and the service was attentive, definitely worthy of a fancy date night. However, the food was a little disappointing given how highly this place is rated. My husband and I shared two appetizers and two entrées. The entrées impressed, but the apps missed their mark. The octopus "ceviche" consisted of tender octopus but lacked flavor. The stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda" barely had any stone crab at all. But the Wagyu Cross beef tongue and beef cheeks were super tender and full of flavor. They made up for the slightly disappointing apps. The staff was very nice though and even treated us to a glass of Prosecco since we were celebrating our anniversary. I'd still recommend this place for anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Mexico City, but I wouldn't come back considering there are so many new restaurants every day. A la mexicana octopus "ceviche", tostadas and guacamole 7/10 Stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda" 7/10 Beer braised Wagyu Cross beef tongue, homemade mole, beluga lentils, pickled onion 9/10 Red wine braised Wagyu Cross beef cheek, risotto with parmesan 10/10

We went to several incredible Michelin star restaurants during our trip to Mexico City, but, in the end, Maximo was our favorite meal of the whole weekend. The design of the restaurant is such a vibe and the food was really next level. We had a 7:15 reservation on Saturday night and were taken to our booth at the back of the restaurant upon arrival. My husband ordered the espresso martini based on online reviews and I ordered my standard drink, tequila neat. He said that the martini was perfectly made and I was surprised and delighted that my tequila came with a side of fresh homemade sangrita. For food, we ordered a bunch of things to share. Everything looked good but we ended up with the roasted beets, tuna and kampachi sashimi, roasted leeks, tagliatelle with oxtail ragu, sweet potato and ricotta agnolotti, roasted chicken and the filet. I legitimately cannot choose a favorite bite because each dish was as good as the next. For dessert we had the French toast and the truffle ice cream. The only dish I would comfortably say you could pass on is the truffle ice cream. It was creamy and delicious but didn't taste much like truffle. Make a reservation at Máximo asap, I promise you won't regret it!

I have been eating like a king in Mexico City. The food so far has been incredible and I crown Mexico City in the Sunil list of food cities in the top 3. This spot is No.43 Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 and also made popular by Anthony Bourdain. Another incredible meal, everything we ate looked like a work of art and tasted like ambrosia.

Our favorite meal in Mexico City. So good - as soon as you walk in, the ambiance is incredible and the food matches! Everything was delicious, from the complimentary bread with the super tasty eggplant dip, to the cheesecake for dessert (seriously the best cheesecake I've ever had). We almost went back again the next night just because of how much we enjoyed it. A must-do!!

Maximo wasn't on my radar until a gf made reservations - and it was one of our top meals during our four-night visit to CDMX. The restaurant has a lot of neutral colors with a modern, clean, and earthy design - and plants that makes you feel like you're in an atrium. We went for lunch - I looooove a long and fancy lunch! We started with artisan bread and butter, lunch wines (they don't have rose, but we did find an funky orange wine that was great!). Our table of four was hungry, so we opted for a la carte dining (there is a 9 c-course tasting menu, too), listed in order of my favorites from top to a-okay: + Kampachi and tuna sashimi, soy and ginger vinaigrette, and matcha $670 + Roasted beets, organic apple vinaigrette, Celaya goat cheese $429 + Stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda", shiso guacasalsa $540 + Roasted baby corn, hollandaise, parmesan $594 + Caesar salad, head cheese $540 My dining companions also took part in: + A la mexicana octopus "ceviche", tostadas and guacamole $570 + Wagyu cross beef cheeseburger $640 You can book reservations by OpenTable or phone: https://www.maximobistrot.com.mx/en/reservations/

Because Anthony "Tony" Bourdain raved on and on about this place in the book "World Travel: An Irreverent Guide" published by his long-time assistant Laurie Woolever, I knew I had to go and relive oh-may-he-rest-in-peace-Tony's glory. We also desayuno-ed at Lalo! (Chef Eduardo Garcia Guzman's casual breakfast joint) so we came in with high expectations... luckily Maximo did not disappoint! Upon the long entrance we got to see their well-oiled inner working of a machinery - the kitchen was visible through a giant pane of glass. You could the chefs and sous chef collaborating, carefully crafting each meal together. We got seated in the middle where long padded seats were divided by a row of potted plants. I noticed that the restaurant space was created by adding some curved tin roof with glass enclosure over two sets of walls from neighboring buildings, how clever! The high vaulted ceiling made the place feel grand and lofty, but with landscape tapestry hanging on the walls and softly lit candles the environment could not be more inviting. At first we got nervous when the server only brought over the drink menu but not the food menu. My husband anxiously whispered if we were in for a $$$$$ tasting menu unbeknownst to us? I responded with a wide-eyed shrug. Our fears quickly dissipated once our server returned with our cocktails and the food menu in tow. We commenced with the soft shell crab tempura tlayuda. Very fresh with surprising picante note when we least expected it. And forget the fork and knife our attentive server brought - it was easier to use our hands. Oh and let me tell you about those baby corn dusted with shaved Parmesan in a bed of hollandaise sauce that tasted like roasted butterscotch. Holy cow that suave changed my life forever. I want to dip EVERYTHING in that hollandaise sauce. I want to swim in it. I want to take it home and sleep in it. Or on it. Or drown it. Whichever takes place first. Next came the tagliatelle with oxtail sauce which was deep and umami. My husband also ordered the Wagyu burger and damn it worried every pretty penny. The burger meat was grilled to medium rare and then layered with thin slices of pickled onion, lettuce, and oozing cheese, then sandwiched between a pair of beautifully toasted pretzel buns. The texture and the mouthfeels lit up parts of my brain I didn't know existed. The mashed potato side dish was a surprise hit too. Wow wow wee wow, how in the world do they not have a Michelin Star? My snotty I've-been-to-a-3-Michelin-starred-restaurant-in-Paris husband thought Maximo ought to deserve one. Excellent service and everyone there spoke better English than our broken Dora-the-explorer Spanish. Dress up or dress down, this place welcomes all. Bravo Lalo!

Reservations recommended for all fine dine in CDMX and this one is no exception. You'd see literally no spots if you book a week prior. We made one for the opening afternoon slot. This was our first dining experience in cdmx. They opened a bit later and were also a bit disorganized. Food takes a bit to come. Apart from this, everything else was positive. The space is vibey yet bright. Located by the main street. They've a la carte and a tasting menu. We tried two beverages and two appetizers only. The scallop ceviche was mind altering because I never could have imagined liking scallops that too raw! The baby corn dish made my babycorn hating partner fall in love with the veg. I wish we had time to go in for an entire experience but highly recommend. Maybe go in for not the opening spots but a bit after (1.30 pm or 7pm).

It was not bad but feel like those hyped up tourist spot. Mostly tourist. Good but also very European, may not be a necessary stop for those who's only here for a short time. Tried the Octopus Ceviche because everyone raved about it but it was okay, not the freshest, but braised well so it's tender. Softshell Crab Tlayuda took a while but very good, love it. Cocktails were just fine, on the lighter side. Maybe stick with wine?

Hands down the best restaurant in mexico city! I fear i might book a flight once just to go back to Maximo. The staff were helpful and attentive. We tried to order light but the menu was so promising that we caved and once again ordered too much- a sacrifice I'll gladly make over and over again! i love their plates and decor, everything was so clean. Now lets get to the best part, the food: we ordered a la mexicana octopus "ceviche", penshell scallops aguachiles, roasted baby corn and the wood grilled wagyu cross beef burger! honestly all the plates are unique and bursting in flavors.

Excellent, fine dining French Mexican meal in a beautiful, open, and intimate low-lit setting. We opted to order off the a-la-carte menu, and most memorable for our table were the gooseneck barnicles "aguachile" appetizer (we've never seen barnicles on a menu before, and they were deliciously prepared) and the seared red snapper entree, which was delicately cooked with a fantastic bouillabaisse sauce. For desserts, we tried the unique goat cheese ice cream with phyllo, guava, and olive oil. If you're not a fan of strong goat cheese flavor, you may want to skip this one. It's an interesting combination of savory, sweet, creamy, and crunchy flavors, but my group was divided on whether they liked it or not. Our server was lovely - he primarily only spoke Spanish but still tried his best to communicate with us in English. When our meal was winding down, he recommended different types of tequila and we chose one of his recommendations. Unfortunately as the staff was clearing away plates, my husband accidentally spilled his tequila over as he was picking up a dish. I was just slightly hoping the server would offer us a bit of tequila again (knowing that it was an accident when cleaning up), but they did not. We know it was our fault, but just a bummer that almost the entire tequila was spilled.

What a disaster! So much for the finest restaurant in Mexico City. So much for five stars. We had a reservation for a long time, at 4:00 on a Wednesday. This was [supposed to be] one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico City. First of all, they never said when we made a reservation that *there is no tasting menu after 3:30* for the earlier seatings. Not when we made our reservation, not when we arrived, not when, 20 minutes after we arrived they brought us a menu, which we had to request, not until somebody wandered up and took our order. And then it was, "Oh, yeah, we don't have the tasting menu after the 3:30 seating." They *never came over to us* without asking. The power went out, but they kept serving people. But . . . oops! . . . not us. It was not an enjoyable meal, and of course we spent tons of money. The baby corn was really, really delicious, as was the Wagyu flat iron steak. But the other dishes were just fine. The massively expensive caviar on plantain bread tasted like delicious banana bread, which so overpowered the caviar that it made absolutely no sense to serve them together. The asparagus was lovely, but at something like $33, I guess it should be. This just wasn't a special meal, and I'm still completely baffled that they ignored us. We asked for a dessert menu and just. never. got it. They were so over us before we even walked in the door. read more

Stunning dining experience. We made a reservation for lunch and ate a couple of courses. The salad, spectacular, the ceviche, spectacular, the pasta (to no surprise) spectacular. Definitely make a point to go here while in CDMX. read more

Hands down one of the best restaurants I have been to in Mexico City! This place doesn't look like much, but it is absolutely delicious. Ambiance/Service: This place is a very small quaint restaurant that is not super easily seen from the outside. But when you are inside, it feels cozy and like you are in a home eating a meal with other guests. The service is absolutely amazing and they were on it for everything. I would say that the ONLY thing that our group (there were 8 of us) was a little upset about, was that we ordered a lot of food, and it came out a little quicker for each dish than we would have maybe hoped for, so if you are in a group, or if you are wanting to order a few things, you may want to tell them to space the dishes out for you (maybe because they are so busy and did want to move us along) Food/Drinks: Wow! The food here is absolutely amazing! Keep in mind that it is comfort food, and extremely delicious. Our group was able to try about half of the menu and share around (menu has a good amount of selection, and its so hard to choose!). Every dish we had was super good, so whatever you get here, you will not be disappointed. The ravioli, the risotto, the meats (bass, pork), the corn, the ceviche, everything was so good (my mouth is salivating while writing this...). We only had wine here, rather than cocktails, but the wine they have on selection is very good as well. Note that we did have reservations, which i would definitely recommend as this place does get very busy. I would definitely recommend this place out if you are looking for a delicious spot to eat in MXC. We will absolutely be back! read more

Both the food and the service were incredible! We started with the corn and cuaresmeño chile soup and the sweet onion with cheese and sliced summer truffles on top. The soup tasted amazing, and the sweet onion was like an elevated French onion soup dip. It came with delicious bread, and I ate it with blue tostadas. For dinner, we split the cuitlacoche and black truffle stuffed roasted organic chicken breast with organic eggplant purée and chicken jus. We also ordered the Wangus beef Rib Eye from Querétaro, with organic potato gratin, veal jus, and onion. The presentation was beautiful, and every bite was better than the last. For dessert, we ordered the Chaurand goat cheese ice cream with phyllo, guava, and olive oil, which I tried and it was fantastic. We also ordered mamey and pixtle tart with almonds and cacao flower ice cream. I tried a bit of the ice cream and a taste of the fruit, and it was incredible. After we finished dessert, we received a complimentary glass of Prosecco for our anniversary, which was a sweet gesture as well. The service was really top notch. Highly recommended! read more

Lobster risotto too salty. Bottled water $9 each. Appetizers better than main courses. Save your money and have street food. Ambience is nice and service great. Fried chicken was even too salty. Disappointed as we wanted to like it. read more

I've had the pleasure of dining at this establishment twice now, and each visit has left me in awe. What sets this place apart is their commitment to changing the menu to highlight seasonal specialties. The result? I hadn't eaten for 10+ hours after a long day of flying and getting myself situated. My favorite restaurant in CDMX closed early, unexpectedly, and I was SOL. I didn't do any research to eat anywhere else other than my usual spot. Impeccable service and an awesome 6-course tasting menu for $1600. I came around 8PM and half the restaurant was empty so food came out quickly. With the second course being a bread + dip course, you're sure to be filled by the end of the night. Everything was delicious - I have have enjoyed this more than Quintonil. A highlight worth mentioning specifically is the guava ice cream. Man, where can I buy a gallon to take home??? This has now been added to my list of must-visit, and surely a place I'll crave from tome to time. read more

Food was excellent. Everything was very good. 2 standouts were the plantain bread w/ truffles and the kampachi. The bread was really unique w/ a ton of flavor. Almost tasted like a cinnamon bun. Only regret is that a lot of the food was extremely rich. Probably needed to order something with a little more relief. Service was ok. Not sure who our actual waiter was. But Anthony was a rock star. Helped us quite a bit. read more
I've eaten here 3 times already and I rarely do that but this place is just that good. It's easily one of the very best restaurants in Mexico City. The octopus ceviche is incredible, as was the fatty tuna tiradito and carrots 4 ways. A real treat and at great prices by USA fine dining standards (a little pricey for Mexico compared to $1 street tacos I guess). Do yourself a favor; eat here! read more

Popped in on lark for an early happy hour around 3:30 and wow - what an amazing meal. So glad they were able to accommodate us for an early bird special even without a reservation. We wanted to do the tasting but didn't have enough time before our 7 pm plans so we sampled a few items from the menu. We started with the oysters which weren't my favorite but I will caveat this with the fact that I don't like Baja oysters in general (I very much prefer smaller, saltier, northern oysters). We tried the cauliflower and the jamón. Both absolutely incredible. The jamón was so thinly sliced - we got to watch the slicing and plating just a few feet from our table actually - and was perfect on top of the provided bread. We also ordered the Wagu beef - my husband doesn't drink alcohol and the sauce has cognac in it but the chef so kindly put the mushrooms on the side for us. The wagu was the absolute star of the show, sooo incredibly tender and flavorful (honestly maybe even better without the mushrooms interfering with the meat flavor) with a side of the butteriest mash potatoes. I paired it with a delicious Tempranillo per the house sommelier and was incredibly happy with the entire meal. My only complaint is they forgot our plantain bread with caviar order which I was keen to try but after eating all of that it was probably best we didn't get anything else. You can also see into the kitchen and watch them slice the kampachi sashimi and make the ravioli! What a fun experience. We were so happy we were able to eat here during our time in Mexico City! read more
This was by far the best restaurant we ate at in Mexico City. That is saying a lot because we had some fantastic meals. The bread, tostada, pasta, and suckling big. The service was strange and not consistent. I would overlook that because the food was just fantastic. read more

Food tasted good, but I wasn't overly impressed by it. I ordered octopus ceviche (excellent) and rabbit roulade (okay). Wife ordered pig taco (okay+) and flat iron steak (okay+). Also ordered chocolate tarts (excellent). Customer service was good+; they were professional and patient with us as tourists who don't speak too much Spanish. Restaurant location was good; enjoyed seeing outdoor seating and the cool fall weather enabling the restaurant to keep the windows open. It was a good place to visit on our visit to Mexico City; prices not as expensive as other $$$-rated restaurants. It's not a place I'd go out of my way to visit again, but it is a place I recommend to visit at least once. read more
We lucked out on a same day reservation for lunch. Service was attentive and excellent. For starters They served an eggplant dip w goat cheese, garlic and olive oil. Tasted like hummus but consistency was dip-like. We ordered: Cauliflower soup- creamy with bits of cauliflower. It didn't need additional salt or pepper. Burrata- best ever, flavor was spot on and ingredients were fresh. Definitely a must try. Risotto- cooked al dente one of the best I've had. Good if you're looking for a starch dish. Rib eye- medium rare. Pretty juicy, seasoned well, locally sourced from Chihuahua. Overall the options we picked we'd definitely order again. A bit bummed that they sold out on the porchetta but it'll be another reason to visit. read more

Only been in CDMX for less than 24 hours and I think my wife found one of the best and unique cuisine restaurants in the city. Let's start with arriving. The maître d' informed us that there was pretty much no chance we were getting in (this was at 13:00) but we were optimistic. He took our name and let us know there was a second floor with a waiting room along with the restaurant bar. We were already sore from our sightseeing, so being led to a bar with amazing seating was great. We were also told there'd be some apps you could order but the whole menu was off limits. Something I can respect. After ordering a tequila on the rocks accompanied with a cervesa, and my wife snagging a cocktail it wasn't 5 minutes until the maître d' arrived letting us know we had a table (btw a table of three before us got bumped... and thank god). After arriving at our table, we swiftly ordered the squash and truffle soup, followed by the beats... and briefly after had the short rib ravioli and baby corn. This establishment is beyond amazing. Once again... Viva Mexico!! read more

My favorite meal while I was in Mexico City. It was my first night here and my friend made the reservation. I did not realize I would have the best meal the entire week I was here my first night. Loved the atmosphere. The food overall was very good. I did the tasting menu with wine pairing. The service for the tasting menu was very inconsistent. I don't think one dish was served to me with my wine and I ended up waiting till someone noticed. Sometimes there were long waits in between courses (which is fine because we weren't in a rush) but then a couple courses were literally served within minutes of each other. I had taken a couple bites and the next course was brought and just sat there. I've done a ton of tasting menus and this was by far served the worst. It felt very uncoordinated and chaotic. I also didn't love the wine pairings but this was relatively inexpensive. That all being said the food was flavorful and atmosphere lively and beautiful. I would recommend Maximo to order off menu but definitely not the tasting menu at this time. There were several large groups who looked like they were having a great time. Based on my experience with the tasting menu I can't justify the high cost of the meal. We ate at a few other high end restaurants in CDMX and had a much better experience. Hopefully they are able to improve. read more
Okay I heard about this place on Bourdain and I decided to wing it with no lunch reservations. They seated us at the upstairs bar and told us if someone canceled they could seat us. I was tired of walking and decided that a rest would be nice with a drink. We had only been waiting about 12 min when they came to get us and we were able to sit outside which is what I preferred. The food was amazing, great presentation and the taste was fantastic. I loved this place and the staff was very attentive and helpful. I would definitely go back. read more

I can say that this place was absolutely impressive in every way! We were blown away. Blown away by the generosity of the staff, the level of flavors Chef Garcia was able to get by combining ingredients without overwhelming your tastebuds with one component or the other. Our waiter, Pedro was on point at all times. Pedro knew the menu top to bottom. He was able to make some great suggestions and his timing was impeccable. We ordered three appetizers, which were paced out perfectly, one after the next. The chef even sent something special for us to try, it was phenomenal. Everything left me wanting more. We ordered so much food, we decided to take our muscles in white wine home to make room for our other food. But Pedro came back with the muscles made into another dish telling us that the chef didn't think the muscles would taste good reheated so he made them in to something completely different for us to try. Wow! They were delicious, and we ended up eating every bite. My raviolis stuffed with porcini mushrooms were excellent . I know it sounds so simple but there was something very wonderful about the subtle additions of ingredients that all came together with each bite. My husband had the roasted leg of lamb. It was amazing as well. The food here is not pretentious or intimidating. The food is made by someone who has a love for combining seasonal ingredients and a passion for flavor, blending ingredients together until he has perfection. The desserts are not to be missed either. With a great wine list to accompany the meal from start to finish you can't go wrong. At the end of our meal, we were invited to the back to tour the kitchen and meet the chef. This was really going above and beyond, we really had a great night at Maximo Bistrot. We can't wait to go back. Thank you Pedro, Chef Eduardo Garcia and the rest of the team at Maximo Bistrot! read more
Maximo deserves to be on every "best of" list, and I'm not just talking about CDMX. We were a bit hesitant about doing another nice sitdown dinner after being disappointed by Pujol. To be fair, Maximo didn't start out great. We showed up on time, but our table was far from ready. They escorted us upstairs to the waiting area (through the restaurant for some reason, even though the entrance requires stepping outside the restaurant), which was dark and hot. There was a bar and some lounge seating. We heard multiple people complain about the wait times or the bar service and they all got comped their drinks. We tried not to be "those people", so we ended up paying for our drinks. Was about a half hour before we were seated. Not a huge problem since we weren't all that hungry anyway. We were seated at an awesome table by the back door. The place is kind of dark, so don't expect too many night time Instagram food porn shots. Their tasting menu is much more reasonably priced than Pujol's, but we ordered off the menu. Their menu selections are also better, in terms of variety. We split the jamon Iberico that we saw upstairs at the bar. The plate cost more than most entrees, and we could see why - it was a TON of meat and cheesy bread. Also delicious. I did the octopus ceviche, which was so fresh. Not rubbery at all, and just the right amount of tartness. My friend got the live conch and scallop tostada, which was more on the acidic side due to the yuzu, but not overly so. Very balanced and great mix of textures. For my main, I went with the ravioli stuffed with foie gras and porcini mushrooms. HOLY CRAP. So good. Rich doesn't even begin to describe it. The pasta dough was light. The foie gras was plentiful. And the sauce tied everything together. My friends got the abalone in brown sauce since they'd never had abalone before (which was shocking to me). As someone who grew up eating abalone, I can definitely say it was a damn fine example of it. Just the right amount of chewiness. The brown butter sauce was perfect. I also got to try my buddy's green tagliatelle with pork ragu, and that was also great, albeit a bit of a safe choice. At some point, my friend told the waiter it was my birthday (not a lie), and they presented me with a candle atop some ice cream and chips. So amazing of them. We also got the triple creme cheese dessert to split. It also came with a big slice of French toast, which wasn't listed on the menu, but was much appreciated since it came with probably a 1/4 lb of the creme cheese. A bit excessive, but damned if it wasn't delicious. The beehive honey and the seasonal compote were my favorite parts of the dish though. While we didn't get to hit up all the top restaurants in Mexico City, we can say with certainty that Maximo Bistrot was our favorite. If you're headed to CDMX, be sure to make a reservation! Remarkably good. Food comes out as it's ready. Starters first then larger plates. Share it all. Sea Bass sashimi was Devine. Beets and goats cheese very good. Caeser salad was tasty with head cheese in lieu of anchovies. French bread served at the start of the meal was heavenly with an eggplant ash dip. Waiter wanted us to get the Waygu which looked lovely at other tables. We opted for lamb which didn't disappoint. Cauliflower main dish was excellent. Get the Madelines even with the 15 minute wait. Maybe two orders. Nice wine list if a bit pricy. Cocktails really shine. read more

We had a lunch here and overall, the experience was underwhelming as the dishes were in general slightly underseasoned and portions very small. Definitelty not understandable in our view why it is a top50 restaurant, and we won't come back: -Ceviche Octopus: bring your glasses to look for the octopus. There was hardly any fish in it. Taste also not special. -Jamon Iberico: supposed to contain fat, but not in the quantity here. Meat didn't taste very fresh -Aguachile: A bit bland, but interesting mix of i ingredients -Duck breast: Skin was not very crispy. Slightly overcooked, but meat tender -Ravioli: Tasty filling, but slightly overboilt, and portion pretty small read more

I was in Mexico City last month and had the pleasure of dining at Maximo Bistrot Local. We called for a reservation as soon as we arrived in the city on a Friday and weren't able to get one until the following Tuesday. So, be sure to make your reservation well in advance. The restaurant looks sort of like a house. The inside is dimly lit, warm and welcoming. The ambiance is homey and romantic. After checking in for our reservation, we were asked to wait for our table at a cozy upstairs bar with an interesting cocktail list. Soon after, we were shown to our table. The restaurant was busy, but not obnoxiously loud or cramped. To start, we had the jamon iberico carrasco, pan con tomate. It was the best pan con tomate I think i've ever had, even in Barcelona. For our entrees, I had ravioli stuffed with mushrooms, and my boyfriend had the suckling pig taco. My dish was great, and he liked his too although he seemed less impressed with his than I was with mine. For dessert, we had the chocolate macadamia tarte which was delicious (although a little on the small side). I was put off by the fact that the hand towels in the restroom weren't disposable and had obviously been used by several patrons. I think that's something the restaurant could improve upon and it isn't very hygienic. Overall though, the experience was great and i'd definitely return to Maximo Bistro if I ever return to Mexico City. read more

So I was visiting my parents in Mexico City and since they were there a month before with my sister they wanted to take me. I made a reservation for Friday 3pm. If you have been to Mexico City you know how packed traffic is and by 2 pm I called and asked if they could hold my reservation until 3:15pm (15 min) they said no and were super rude. Fine, we made it at 3:02pm the place was EMPTY, they sat us, nobody brought is anything except the alcohol menu, we asked for the food menu and it took them about 10min to bring it. First of all, the prices from the month before were raised, their menu didn't have so many options and their service at that point was annoying me. So I told my mom: I don't want to stay here, nothing really gets my attention and to be honest I don't like the service. And we left. Now, if you ask me, for those prices I rather go to Pujol and pay a little bit more, or go to any other place in Condesa-Roma and for half of the price get an amazing meal. read more

Items Selected: French Bread with Charcoal Eggplant, Goat Cheese and Garlic Clam Aguachile, Coriander Oil, Avocado, Blue Corn Tortilla Torchon of Foie Gras with Chicozapote, Brioche Young Corn, Hollandaise, Macadamia Ravioli, Ricotta, Date Butter Striped Bass, Mole Verde, Puslane, Apple Pig Confit, Cacahuazintle Beans, Salsa Panna Cotta, Strawberry, Rhubarb, Mascarpone, Mango Sorbet French Toast, Blueberry Compote, Vanilla Ice Cream Owned by Eduardo Garcia and made a globally known name by the PROFECO Scandal through no fault of its own, Maximo Bistrot has been widely considered one of Mexico City's best restaurants ever since opening its doors in 2011, the concept of a daily rotating menu focused on seasonality not exactly novel in the fine-dining scene but certainly uncommon amidst Latin America's mid-priced casual settings. To this day a difficult reservation to obtain, the use of Opentable undoubtedly helpful assuming diners pay attention to policy and plan a few weeks in advance, it was with a table booked for two at seven o'clock that the restaurant was approached in a steady rain, a seat on the covered patio offered to pass the fifteen minutes before the small space officially opened for business that evening, both servers and kitchen staff seen attending to tasks and holding meetings while a few more parties arrived and stood in wait. Unfortunately arriving on a day when Chef Garcia was not in the kitchen, the man who'd originally developed his love of cooking in the United States before moving back to Mexico in order to perfect his skills alongside Enrique Olvera currently developing a concept in Dubai, it was with greetings from wife and General Manager Gabriela that patrons were soon greeted with reservations confirmed via small tablet, the rustic room lowly lit by candles plus a few well placed sconces and a chandelier hanging over a table reserved for parties of six. Far smaller than most of the city's most heralded restaurants, the music playing at an almost unheard level allowing for quiet conversation despite a room filled to capacity just ten minutes after opening, it was with menus provided in both English and Spanish that diners were left to decide between a la carte service or a 995 Peso tasting menu, the suggestion that all plates are served 'family style' providing impetus to go with the former to the tune of eight dishes plus two drinks. Working in a tight kitchen but still managing to offer over thirty different plates, influences from as far off as France joining more traditional Mexican flavors created from 'responsibly sourced ingredients that will not have a negative impact on our environment,' it was with a refreshing Gin and real Tonic with Quinine in hand that the meal got underway with a sliced Baguette paired to charred Eggplant mixed with Goat Cheese and Garlic, the first dish of Clams bathed in Citrus, Acid and Coriander Oil showcasing the sweeter notes of the Mollusk while Avocado and Radish helped anchor the flavors to crispy Corn Tortillas served on the side. Allowing the kitchen to order the menu as deemed appropriate, each plate arriving on its own with a small pause between, dish two featured a creamy Torchon of Liver plated amidst drops of Pomegranate Juice plus Jam made from nutty Sapodilla Fruit, a slice of Brioche on the side doubled on request to allow for adequate spreading. Denied the restaurant's Chicken in Black Mole, the dish inexplicably 'sold out' before anyone had even ordered, it was with a riff on Mexican Street Corn that the evening progressed as tiny Ears meant to be eaten whole were brushed with Hollandaise and rolled in crushed Macadamia nuts, the Ravioli stuffed with Ricotta and glazed in Date Butter with shavings of Parmesan almost dessert-like in the sweetness of its taste. Still perplexed by the lack of something as common as Chicken, the table where a self-induced wine accident would later see the restaurant's service shine in cleaning up what was essentially a whole glass given the same answer when they tried to order the dish, it was instead to the Striped Bass in Green Mole with Purslane and matchstick Apples that attention was turned, the vibrant vegetal flavor helping to crispy Scales while at the same time accenting mild flesh in a way that spoke to a kitchen in tune with its ingredients, though the Confit Pork was probably a bit *too* fatty beneath the skin for many diner's tastes. Taking a double Espresso with large Ice Cubes with dessert, the menu unfortunately devoid of much Central American influence at its end, those looking for something light would be well advised to order Maximo's daily Panna Cotta, this time featuring Strawberries, Rhubarb and Mascarpone with Mango Sorbet while those looking for something a little more decadent should invest the 120 Pesos in Custard-imbued French Toast topped in Blueberry Compote and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream that can also be ordered for breakfast at the Chef's Lalo! across the street. read more

I cannot recommend this restaurant to foreigners. We were so excited to eat here but had a terrible experience with the service. We were seated in the far back of the restaurant, where the waiters congregate when they are not busy. My seat faced a wall with empty tables on either side. Shortly after sitting down, one of the waiters approached my partner and asked what hotel we were staying at. She told him that we were staying at the Four Seasons and he walked away. I'm not sure why a waiter would possibly ask this with no other context other than because he was sizing us up. We ordered some appetizers, one of which was the porcini and onion soup. I asked the waiter if it was a broth or cream soup because I didn't want it to be too heavy, to which he responded that it was only broth. It turned out to be a very heavy and creamy butter base, which combined with the other appetizer ended up being too rich for my stomach and excessively filling. At this point we were no longer hungry and combined with the poor service, there seemed to be no reason to stay. Fortunately we had not ordered the main course (despite their apparent annoyance when I told them I preferred not to order it at the same time as the appetizer). The group of men behind our table appeared to be having a great time and their food looked excellent. (One item looked so good that we asked the waiter about it -- it was a daily special that they had not bothered to tell us about.) I'm sure many people come here and have a wonderful experience, but ours was not. I'm leaving two stars because the bread and aged olive oil sauce was excellent and the other appetizer was quite good. read more

Lots of people had hyped this place up, so I came in with high expectations. However I was disappointed by the disparity between the price and quality of the entrees and ambience. The food wasn't good enough to be priced so high. Also service was a bit strange, the waitress took away our food / drinks twice before we finished. read more

Máximo Bistrot is a cute small restaurant in the Roma Norte area. I know you're probably wondering why I would seek out European food in CDMX, but it came highly recommended. We made a reservation for lunch a few weeks ahead via Open Table. To start, some of their cocktails were quite reasonably priced. The caiparhina and mezcalina were both fruity, refreshing, and good for brunch. They also had some fancier cocktails featuring veuve, as well as lots of wines. Everything is meant to be shared family style. We were started with some tuna sashimi on the house. Starters: - Sweet onions cooked in whey with comte cheese: this was like a French onion soup without the broth. It's melted cheese and sweet onions in a hot dish with bread on the side - Grilled sweet corn: baby elotes with mayo and Parmesan. The corn was super sweet and tender - Tostada with pulpo: the pulpo was thinly sliced; the radishes and sauce made it a good balance - Tostada with scallop: on the House - Iberico with pan con tomate: it wasn't bellota, but it was a pretty good sized portion for $650 MXN (~$30) Pastas: - Short rib ravioli: the filling was great; they used fresh pasta. There were 5 half moon raviolis per dish. - Tagliatelli with lamb ragout: not overly gamey; again, fresh pasta - Risotto: rich and cheesy Mains: - Lechon: suckling pig - nicely seasoned, fork tender, but with a great crisp skin. The sweet potato purée on the side helped cut the salt We were too full for for dessert, but they brought us some ice cream with basil and passion fruit on the house for a birthday, which was a nice touch. Service was very attentive and friendly. Again - it seems unusual to find a European place in the middle of CDMX, but it's worth checking out. It's also a nice reason to go out to the Roma area. read more

This place is perfect for a casual but unmistakably delicious meal. I went there for lunch and the place smells like fresh flowers and there was live music outside lightening up the mood. Highlights were the coliflor, the flor de calabaza, the huachinango, tagliatelle, and the mil hojas for dessert. The huachinango was my favorite dish by far. Portions are good and I went with a party of 5 and we ordered 7 dishes. Menus states that dishes can be shared and my honest recommendation is that you share the appetizers but not the main dishes Main dishes are not served to shared at all and we all were unable to share one main dish so we had to split unevenly. I strongly suggest each person orders their own main dish as portions are perfect and leave space for a dessert (or two) read more
