Maximo was definitely one of the highlights of our Mexico City trip! Loved the vibes and wine glasses were super unique. We loved the daily menus and the variety. Instead of getting the tasting we got many dishes to share and loved them all. House bread with the roasted eggplant dip was great. The octopus ceviche with mole and guacomole was great too. We especially loved the tempura soft shell crab with a mexican twist / flavor to it. We also really liked the jamon iberico which was a large generous portion. The roasted baby corn that everyone talked about was great though I didn't think this was the highlight of the meal. And lastly the oxtail pappardelle which left us stuffed. Definitely worth visiting and deserving of their 1 star!

Great dinner for our party of 8 for dinner. Overall, the dishes were pretty solid. Main disappointment was the service - kinda felt they were just throwing dishes at us to finish. Drinks were good, ambiance is stunning as the interior is wide grand and spacious. Wouldn't come again for dinner. Lunch, maybe.

I tried this place during my first time visiting Mexico City because it was on all the lists of fine dining restaurants to try. The ambience was very romantic and the service was attentive, definitely worthy of a fancy date night. However, the food was a little disappointing given how highly this place is rated. My husband and I shared two appetizers and two entrées. The entrées impressed, but the apps missed their mark. The octopus "ceviche" consisted of tender octopus but lacked flavor. The stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda" barely had any stone crab at all. But the Wagyu Cross beef tongue and beef cheeks were super tender and full of flavor. They made up for the slightly disappointing apps. The staff was very nice though and even treated us to a glass of Prosecco since we were celebrating our anniversary. I'd still recommend this place for anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Mexico City, but I wouldn't come back considering there are so many new restaurants every day. A la mexicana octopus "ceviche", tostadas and guacamole 7/10 Stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda" 7/10 Beer braised Wagyu Cross beef tongue, homemade mole, beluga lentils, pickled onion 9/10 Red wine braised Wagyu Cross beef cheek, risotto with parmesan 10/10

We went to several incredible Michelin star restaurants during our trip to Mexico City, but, in the end, Maximo was our favorite meal of the whole weekend. The design of the restaurant is such a vibe and the food was really next level. We had a 7:15 reservation on Saturday night and were taken to our booth at the back of the restaurant upon arrival. My husband ordered the espresso martini based on online reviews and I ordered my standard drink, tequila neat. He said that the martini was perfectly made and I was surprised and delighted that my tequila came with a side of fresh homemade sangrita. For food, we ordered a bunch of things to share. Everything looked good but we ended up with the roasted beets, tuna and kampachi sashimi, roasted leeks, tagliatelle with oxtail ragu, sweet potato and ricotta agnolotti, roasted chicken and the filet. I legitimately cannot choose a favorite bite because each dish was as good as the next. For dessert we had the French toast and the truffle ice cream. The only dish I would comfortably say you could pass on is the truffle ice cream. It was creamy and delicious but didn't taste much like truffle. Make a reservation at Máximo asap, I promise you won't regret it!

I have been eating like a king in Mexico City. The food so far has been incredible and I crown Mexico City in the Sunil list of food cities in the top 3. This spot is No.43 Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 and also made popular by Anthony Bourdain. Another incredible meal, everything we ate looked like a work of art and tasted like ambrosia.

Our favorite meal in Mexico City. So good - as soon as you walk in, the ambiance is incredible and the food matches! Everything was delicious, from the complimentary bread with the super tasty eggplant dip, to the cheesecake for dessert (seriously the best cheesecake I've ever had). We almost went back again the next night just because of how much we enjoyed it. A must-do!!

Maximo wasn't on my radar until a gf made reservations - and it was one of our top meals during our four-night visit to CDMX. The restaurant has a lot of neutral colors with a modern, clean, and earthy design - and plants that makes you feel like you're in an atrium. We went for lunch - I looooove a long and fancy lunch! We started with artisan bread and butter, lunch wines (they don't have rose, but we did find an funky orange wine that was great!). Our table of four was hungry, so we opted for a la carte dining (there is a 9 c-course tasting menu, too), listed in order of my favorites from top to a-okay: + Kampachi and tuna sashimi, soy and ginger vinaigrette, and matcha $670 + Roasted beets, organic apple vinaigrette, Celaya goat cheese $429 + Stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda", shiso guacasalsa $540 + Roasted baby corn, hollandaise, parmesan $594 + Caesar salad, head cheese $540 My dining companions also took part in: + A la mexicana octopus "ceviche", tostadas and guacamole $570 + Wagyu cross beef cheeseburger $640 You can book reservations by OpenTable or phone: https://www.maximobistrot.com.mx/en/reservations/

Because Anthony "Tony" Bourdain raved on and on about this place in the book "World Travel: An Irreverent Guide" published by his long-time assistant Laurie Woolever, I knew I had to go and relive oh-may-he-rest-in-peace-Tony's glory. We also desayuno-ed at Lalo! (Chef Eduardo Garcia Guzman's casual breakfast joint) so we came in with high expectations... luckily Maximo did not disappoint! Upon the long entrance we got to see their well-oiled inner working of a machinery - the kitchen was visible through a giant pane of glass. You could the chefs and sous chef collaborating, carefully crafting each meal together. We got seated in the middle where long padded seats were divided by a row of potted plants. I noticed that the restaurant space was created by adding some curved tin roof with glass enclosure over two sets of walls from neighboring buildings, how clever! The high vaulted ceiling made the place feel grand and lofty, but with landscape tapestry hanging on the walls and softly lit candles the environment could not be more inviting. At first we got nervous when the server only brought over the drink menu but not the food menu. My husband anxiously whispered if we were in for a $$$$$ tasting menu unbeknownst to us? I responded with a wide-eyed shrug. Our fears quickly dissipated once our server returned with our cocktails and the food menu in tow. We commenced with the soft shell crab tempura tlayuda. Very fresh with surprising picante note when we least expected it. And forget the fork and knife our attentive server brought - it was easier to use our hands. Oh and let me tell you about those baby corn dusted with shaved Parmesan in a bed of hollandaise sauce that tasted like roasted butterscotch. Holy cow that suave changed my life forever. I want to dip EVERYTHING in that hollandaise sauce. I want to swim in it. I want to take it home and sleep in it. Or on it. Or drown it. Whichever takes place first. Next came the tagliatelle with oxtail sauce which was deep and umami. My husband also ordered the Wagyu burger and damn it worried every pretty penny. The burger meat was grilled to medium rare and then layered with thin slices of pickled onion, lettuce, and oozing cheese, then sandwiched between a pair of beautifully toasted pretzel buns. The texture and the mouthfeels lit up parts of my brain I didn't know existed. The mashed potato side dish was a surprise hit too. Wow wow wee wow, how in the world do they not have a Michelin Star? My snotty I've-been-to-a-3-Michelin-starred-restaurant-in-Paris husband thought Maximo ought to deserve one. Excellent service and everyone there spoke better English than our broken Dora-the-explorer Spanish. Dress up or dress down, this place welcomes all. Bravo Lalo!

Reservations recommended for all fine dine in CDMX and this one is no exception. You'd see literally no spots if you book a week prior. We made one for the opening afternoon slot. This was our first dining experience in cdmx. They opened a bit later and were also a bit disorganized. Food takes a bit to come. Apart from this, everything else was positive. The space is vibey yet bright. Located by the main street. They've a la carte and a tasting menu. We tried two beverages and two appetizers only. The scallop ceviche was mind altering because I never could have imagined liking scallops that too raw! The baby corn dish made my babycorn hating partner fall in love with the veg. I wish we had time to go in for an entire experience but highly recommend. Maybe go in for not the opening spots but a bit after (1.30 pm or 7pm).

It was not bad but feel like those hyped up tourist spot. Mostly tourist. Good but also very European, may not be a necessary stop for those who's only here for a short time. Tried the Octopus Ceviche because everyone raved about it but it was okay, not the freshest, but braised well so it's tender. Softshell Crab Tlayuda took a while but very good, love it. Cocktails were just fine, on the lighter side. Maybe stick with wine?

Hands down the best restaurant in mexico city! I fear i might book a flight once just to go back to Maximo. The staff were helpful and attentive. We tried to order light but the menu was so promising that we caved and once again ordered too much- a sacrifice I'll gladly make over and over again! i love their plates and decor, everything was so clean. Now lets get to the best part, the food: we ordered a la mexicana octopus "ceviche", penshell scallops aguachiles, roasted baby corn and the wood grilled wagyu cross beef burger! honestly all the plates are unique and bursting in flavors.

Excellent, fine dining French Mexican meal in a beautiful, open, and intimate low-lit setting. We opted to order off the a-la-carte menu, and most memorable for our table were the gooseneck barnicles "aguachile" appetizer (we've never seen barnicles on a menu before, and they were deliciously prepared) and the seared red snapper entree, which was delicately cooked with a fantastic bouillabaisse sauce. For desserts, we tried the unique goat cheese ice cream with phyllo, guava, and olive oil. If you're not a fan of strong goat cheese flavor, you may want to skip this one. It's an interesting combination of savory, sweet, creamy, and crunchy flavors, but my group was divided on whether they liked it or not. Our server was lovely - he primarily only spoke Spanish but still tried his best to communicate with us in English. When our meal was winding down, he recommended different types of tequila and we chose one of his recommendations. Unfortunately as the staff was clearing away plates, my husband accidentally spilled his tequila over as he was picking up a dish. I was just slightly hoping the server would offer us a bit of tequila again (knowing that it was an accident when cleaning up), but they did not. We know it was our fault, but just a bummer that almost the entire tequila was spilled.
Good but not outstanding. Absolutely beautiful space. We opted to order family style to try different dishes without committing to tasting menu. Starters -Organic mixed green salad, blue cheese vinaigrette, parmesan $320 - Honestly this was delightful, maybe because we haven't had any fresh greens in Mexico, but also because this was a a solid salad. -Stone crab "tlayuda" with mole verde and organic beans $495 - Tasty bite but I wouldn't have known there was crab if it wasn't listed. -Penshell scallops "aguachile", chiltepín and cucumber $890 - My favorite dish, flavorful and bright while still feeling indulgent Pastas -The duck confit cavatelli was my first choice but they said it wasn't ready? We were the first seating so it wasn't like they ran out, just didn't have it prepped. Very disappointing. -Tagliatelle, Wagyu Cross beef ragout and parmesan $640 - feel like Wagyu and ragout is never worthwhile, this was tasty but nothing special -Ricotta cheese caramelle, brown butter, balsamic $650 - more special, indulgent bite Mains -Sole Meunière special $1800 - we didn't ask the price of the special when we ordered it. While it was good with a bright lemony but still rich brown butter sauce with capers, it wasn't particularly special and definitely not worth the price. -Ovenroasted cerdo pelón mexicano rack, mole verde, organic carrot $840 - perfectly cooked, interesting to learn its a local heritage breed -Beer braised Wagyu Cross beef tongue, beans from the pot with mole, pickled onion $720 - very rich, savory, filling taco. Crowd fave. My friend didn't love her gin corn martini and I didn't love my avocado leaf sour (sweet, for being the least sweet sour). We enjoyed the wines, though pricey. We were stuffed so skipped dessert, and our friends wanted to order another but didn't want to wait since everything felt slow. Pace was very spaced out, our lunch was over 2 hours. read more
Booked ahead for dinner on a weeknight. This is a hotspot but honestly I liked places like Gaba and Lina more. I tried: + Octopus "ceviche" - the blue corn tostada and avocado puree were amazing + Tagliatelle with wagyu - little salty, but excellent + wood grilled duck breast - good + Goat cheese ice cream, phyllo, guava dessert - absolute best thing I tried. helloooo Overall the dessert was the only thing that really wowed me, but the food was all very good - no complaints. read more
Beautiful location, service was a little lacking the day we arrived but we can look past that because we were part of a large party of 8 people so perhaps the dining experience is much more exquisite with a smaller or couple of people. Beautiful presentation, excellent cuts of steak, delicious ceviche and plenty of delicious cocktail options. Highly recommend when visiting CDMX! read more

Absolutely lived up to its Michelin star! From beginning to end, service is top tier with perfect timing and serving of the next course with an explanation on the flavours and ingredients. The cocktail was also extremely refreshing. My favorites were the lamb, which was a perfect medium, the penshell scallops and chocolate tarte ! The ambience is so relaxing with muted natural earth colors. Everything was fresh and delicious and would definitely return!! read more

Our third Michelin experience in MXC. This one had the best meal overall (Esquina Común best singular dish, Pujol best experience). You must get the ibérico ham. I decided to splurge tonight and get the white truffle risotto. Instead, I believe I got a black winter truffle. The risotto was also a bit under cooked so I sent it back and it was remade with the correct truffle. It tasted worlds better. I'm very disappointed with this Michelin starred restaurant to use the wrong truffle. I pointed this out to the waitress who I believe grabbed the manager, and she refused that it could be a black truffle. Can you believe she said it turns brown when heated? I have posted my photos so you can decide who's right. read more
maximo beautiful interior house bread - great bread. the roasted eggplant dip was great caesar salad - beautiful presentation but flavor was ok octopus ceviche - probably best octopus ceviche ive had. not mindblowing though. but at the same time, incredibly balanced. maybe thats the beauty of it. steamed red snapper - not exciting stone crab with mole verde- interesting combo but the flavors were too much and drowned out the crab. id say its just a bad pairing tagliatelle - interesting. dark flavor overall, great presentation and vibes, but i didn't LOVE the food. read more
What a romantic and classy date night! Service was incredible and so accommodating. Make a reservation! When we arrived, we sat at the front for a short for our table to be ready and enjoyed a cocktail. The bar drink options are extensive! The food was masterfully prepared. The servers are very attentive and the entire restaurant is immaculate. Highly recommend for a special occasion! read more

We had such a lovely time at Máximo! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful--such a nice atmosphere, and being able to see the chefs through the glass windows was a really cool touch. We ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. The elotitos asados and the cebolla cocida en suero were my personal favorites--so flavorful and unique! The only thing that felt off was the service. We had heard great things from a friend, but it just wasn't as attentive as we expected--especially after dining at another Michelin-starred spot the night before where everything was super on point. Hopefully it was just an off day, because the food and setting were truly excellent. Would still recommend for the experience! read more

KenScale: 8.0/10 Visits: February 2025 Nowadays, I turn to Reddit a lot for restaurant browsing and recommendations (my favorite thus far is the r/finedining subreddit). Before my trip to Mexico City with my wife Jun last February, I wanted to see what some of the common denominators when it comes to favorite restaurants of Reddit users, and one restaurant kept coming us: Máximo in the Roma Norte neighborhood. After going through reviews and reviews, I was eventually sold on checking out this restaurant with Jun. Our visit happened to be on Valentine's Day and the restaurant was absolutely packed, with many of the tables occupied by handsomely dressed couples looking to have a romantic dinner. I was somewhat under the weather on that day from a cold I caught before our flight from DC, but soldiered through to try as many dishes as we could at Máximo. Overall, we had a lot of like from many of the dishes, but one dish unfortunately was a major dud. One of the best dishes we've had during our time in Mexico City was the octopus ceviche at Máximo. We both marveled at how texturally perfect the tender octopus and the crispy tostadas were; it really was a match made in heaven! I felt like I could've just spent the entire dinner putting these insanely delicious octopus pieces with guacamole spread on top of tostadas and called it a night. Even after the octopus was gone, Jun couldn't stop munching on the tostadas, saying this could be the very best tostadas she could've had her entire life. The roasted baby corn, with Hollandaise sauce and parmesan cheese, was also quite delicious. I was quite pleasantly surprised with how tender the corn's texture felt, and Jun was just as impressed with this can't-miss diss. We also shared lamb birria "sincronizada" (a type of flour tortilla-based sandwich) that was quite rich and delicious. After all these memorable dishes came a major disappointment. We chose the organic roasted chicken on the specials menu as a main dish, and it was not at all what we had expected. Yes, we have had some really fine chicken dishes at restaurants elsewhere so our expectations were maybe a bit high, but the texture of the poultry from Máximo wasn't quite the juicy and moist one that we had been used to. We made up for the underwhelming chicken somewhat with vanilla cheesecake and berry flavored ice cream that was not overly sweet to our liking, but Jun couldn't shake the feeling that our meal at Máximo would've been much more special had we tried something else for the main. Máximo is one of the most popular restaurants in Mexico City, and based on the look of the dining scene (even considering that we visited on Valentine's Day), getting a reservation in advance online is absolutely essential. I liked how the dining room, which was once an auto repair shop, with candle lights on every table, gave a chic, industrial look. The service was more or less fine with all the service staff we interacted with speaking proficient English. Another slight downside from dining at Máximo was how pricey everything generally was, on par with some of the most expensive bistro restaurants in big U.S. cities like New York. Same goes for the wine list with rather larger mark-ups from the retail prices than I would've expected. Is Máximo an absolutely must-visit restaurant for people who live in or visit Mexico City? Our dinner at the restaurant was one of those what-if times where we had a mix of brilliant and equally underwhelming dishes. If you are looking to dine at an upscale restaurant in Mexico City that showcases how Mexican cuisine is reinterpreted in a modern fashion with other culinary influences and traditions, Máximo is certainly not a bad place to start. Be prepared to pay up, though. read more
Came here while visiting CDMX from the states on recommendation of multiple friends. I had very high expectations and they were met. To start, service was immaculate from the second we stepped foot in this establishment. We were running late for our reservation because we were literally fresh off the plane but they didn't give us a hard time. Through out the night they checked up on us frequently and were extremely helpful. Ambiance was beautiful with an upscale yet comfortable feel. You could see the kitchen operations through transparent window and it was spotless. The price is steep for Mexico but I assure you it's worth it. Food & drinks - the part that matters! Can't say enough about how amazing our meal was. My margarita was delicious, not too sweet. Just perfect. If you like red wine I recommend Pessac Leognan Cabernet- I could smell and taste a perfect hint of chocolate in this. The kampachi sashimi may have been my favorite but the octopus ceviche is another delightful app that comes with amazing tostadas with sauce and when eaten altogether it's a burst of orgasmic flavor. By the time we got to our oxtail tagliatelle and wagyu ribeye we were already getting full but that didn't stop us from enjoying every bite. 10/10 100% recommend and I will definitely be back to try more! read more

The hottest restaurant in town - for a reason! My friend and I got a reservation through a friend as we had not planned to visit with enough time (book in advance!) We did lunch and I started with the seasonal water (Melon + Chamomile), it was fresh and light! We were started with a house bread and dip, it was delicious! For every plate we were served new ones as to not mix ingredients. We then received the octopus ceviche, it was so fresh and full of flavor, it paired so well with the "guac", it was more a cream of guac with a spicy salsa in the middle. As instructed we would assemble a bit of the cream on the crispy blue corn tortilla and top it with the ceviche. We then received my favorite dish, the cheesy caramelized onion dip with the cruffin - very decadent and delicious. At this point we were getting full - but kept powering through. The burger was by far the best I've ever had! We took a couple of bites and asked to box it as we wanted to try the dessert. Again the chocolate date tart did not disappoint! The service was great, although we didn't get too much we did spend a considerable amount of time and enjoyed it! I will say it was pricey but for a meal like this worth it! read more
Maximo was one of the top places on my list to check out in CDMX and I'm so happy I did! First off, this restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the staff is incredible. Everyone was so kind and patient with my terrible Spanish. And when it came to the food I was blown away. They have a rotating menu so you may not always see the same thing. I had the lengua con mole with sweet potato puree and it was super interesting and delicious! But for me the real winner was the chocolate caviar tart. I'm not a huge chocolate dude, but it sounded interesting so I wanted to get it and it was wild. The chocolate caviar exploded with every bite and the ice cream was the perfect balance to all the chocolate. Although this place is on the pricier side, I think it's worth it! read more
Incredible lunch. Since our group was larger than six, we had a preset menu that remained a surprise until the food arrived at the table. There was so much food, and every dish impressed. It started with a round of seafood appetizers, think Hamachi crudo and fresh, bright flavors, plus burrata topped with caviar. Then came the surprise HIT... crispy fried chicken served with warm, buttery bread and an insanely good cheese dip. From there, it was wave after wave: ravioli pasta, perfectly supple cod, a juicy ribeye. All served family-style, which is my favorite way to enjoy meals. Then finally, two different desserts, both delicious. I haven't been to the other top spots like Pujol or Quintonil yet, but Máximo felt so special. It was a leisurely 3 hr lunch, and we left very full, happy, and extremely impressed. Highly recommend for a memorable group dining experience. read more
This place was just so amazing. We heard from a local that this was the place that needs to be tried if you were in Mexico City (and their sister restaurant Lalo). This is a fine dining restaurant and I would 100% recommend the tasting menu . We had two dishes that were complimentary from the chef. We also ordered a tuna tartare. So we could barely even finish our order. The service was on top of their job. Not to mention the area was located in a cute corner with a modern twist. The light came in naturally giving it an earthy minimalist aura. My absolute favorite was the mushroom with white truffle that I'm still thinking about today . My friend and I split the tab, and with one alcohol beverage each, our order came out to $290 USD per person including tip. If you're looking to experience fine dining. I would put this on the list of places to go read more
Máximo is a beautiful restaurant and I think it closer to 2.5 stars or so, maybe even more. I was pretty underwhelmed by all aspects of my experience. This is a popular restaurant and I made reservations a couple weeks in advance; there were none available the week of as far as I could tell. It is a beautiful space with high ceilings and great artwork and a nice layout. I'm not sure if they had a lot of walk ins or if they were running behind or both but the waiting area was pretty busy throughout the evening. The first issue I had was that they didn't seem to have things fully together in the way I would expect at a restaurant of this price point. For example, despite there behind some open tables, I was told to wait when I arrived and I noticed this later too- groups waiting while tables remained open. The staff also didn't seem that coordinated with one another. This is pretty minor stuff but again, for the type of restaurant they seem to want to be, I would expect better. I opted for the tasting menu and I can't say I recommend this. Issues included the ordering of the courses, pacing issues with the service, portion sizes especially considering the price, and just general taste/flavor/seasoning. If you are going to charge close to $200 USD for a tasting, I would expect the courses to be thoughtfully constructed and to get a pretty substantial amount of food. Neither of these were true here. The first course they brought was the second one listed on the menu. It made zero sense as either an opening course or a second course though. It was a very hot smoked fish dashi with tempura squash to dip into it. i don't understand why you would start with a hot soup especially considering how warm it was in Mexico City. It also didn't feel like the tempura and the dashi went together that well or complimented each other. Not long after, the beef tartare tart which was supposed to be the first course came out. This was ok in taste but it was room temperature which tartare should not be. It should have been much colder and you couldn't really taste the guacamole it supposedly included. The third "one bite" starter, a cheese and onion infladita was tasty and had a nice mix of sweet and savory. It would have been cool to instead have the version of this on the menu which is more of a dip with a cruffin to differentiate it more from the other starters but this was definitely the best of the three. The caviar in the plantain and caviar dish was not great. The caviar was kind of fishy and muddy and was honestly some of the worst caviar I've had. The plantain bread was delicious but the dish was disappointing due to the caviar which should have been the highlight. The kampari with shiso tempura was okay but needed some more balanced seasoning and probably some acid. Similar comments on the abalone tostada although I did like that overall and it felt like the only real substantive course. I also appreciated that the abalone tostada had clear Mexican influences which the other courses mostly lacked. For the main courses, both were tasty but I just wanted more! For the fish, they gave you two tiny pieces of broccolini. Why so little!? The fish itself was a decent portion and perfectly cooked with crispy skin. It was a bit salty but good. The wagyu rib eye was a tiny piece of steak and barely one small carrot cut into pieces. The vegetables were great in both dishes but the portions were laughably small. The two sauces (mole and kale pesto) on the beef dish were incredibly week and somehow almost flavorless and also thin in consistency. I don't even know how you make such a bad version of either a pesto or a mole but they did. I felt pretty let down by both main courses just because I expected and wanted more. The chocolate soufflé tart for dessert was a tiny one bite tart like the 3 opening courses. It was delicious- intense, slightly salty from the kalmata olive, a little bitter. Not to be a broken record but here too, something slightly bigger would have been nice. Pacing was very odd. There were large gaps between some courses and others came out rapidly. This is not that odd for a tasting menu but usually it feels more intentional. Here, there were gaps that did not really make sense. The ordering of the courses was also strange and the menu construction did not feel very thoughtful. For a place like this, you visit as much for the service and experience as the food. Unfortunately all 3 had problems so 2 stars for me :-/ read more
Heard great things about this restaurant. Extremely overhyped and over priced. I got the tasting menu from here and spent more than I did at Pujol. Only three dishes I enjoyed was the flank steak, plantain and cavier and cow cheese ice cream. Additionally, one of my dishes had a hair in it. To compensate, the staff sent a glass of champagne. Decent gesture but I would have preferred $10-$15 knocked off my total tab or at least let me pick a drink of my choice. I go out for drinks often so I have a nose for quality alcohol and this was not it. Service is also terrible. Waited 20 minutes for a menu and for someone to ask me what I wanted to drink. For a restaurant this expensive I expect better service. read more

We did the tasting menu and it did not disappoint! Everything on the tasting menu was so unique and delicious. The inside of the restaurant is very aesthetic and the staff was very friendly. They recommended some nice wine to pair with the tasting. Overall a little pricey, but definitely worth it! read more
I'm so glad I went to Maximo Bistrot because it was one of my favorite meals in Mexico City (I liked it more than Pujol, Quintonil, Rosetta, etc.). We had a reservation for 6:45PM on a Thursday, but the traffic was absolutely insane that night. Our Uber driver said that traffic is usually bad between 6-7PM, but that it was especially bad that night. We ended up getting to the restaurant at 8PM when it was supposed to just be a 20 min drive. So future tip, maybe consider just taking public transportation if you have dinner planned during those hours. When we got to the restaurant, we did have to wait a while, but they still ended up being able to seat us thankfully. For the appetizer, we got the baby corn. I've never liked baby corn before, but Mexico City has really changed my mind. This was so good! For entrees, we got the tagliatelle and the wagyu cheeseburger. The pasta was simple, but so delicious. I didn't expect the burger to be anything amazing, but it was honestly one of the best burgers I've ever had. I usually like smashburgers, but this burger was so juicy. The sauce that they had on it was so good, and the bun was thick enough to hold everything together. It's definitely messy though. I wish we had more room for dessert, but this was a hefty burger. I really like trying new restaurants, but Maximo Bistrot is one of those restaurants that I have to go back to next time I'm in Mexico City. It was that good! read more

Disappointing experience. The service was poor and the server was rude. He couldn't explain anything on the menu, never once checked in to see if everything was okay, and at the end of the meal simply dropped the check on our table without saying a word. Throughout the entire dinner there was no "please" or "thank you" -- just very unprofessional service. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the ribeye steak, which was just okay, and my wife ordered a fish that was rubbery and overcooked. We also tried a couple of appetizers, but there were bland and lacked flavor. The presentation was basic, nothing interesting, far below what you would expect from a restaurant at this price point. When making the reservation by phone, I mentioned that it was my wife's birthday, and the person taking the reservation said they noted it. However, there was no acknowledgment of it during our dinner, not even a verbal mention. Considering this is a Michelin-starred restaurant with Michelin-level prices, the experience was very disappointing. We dined at other Michelin-star restaurants as well as non-Michelin-star restaurants during our trip, and Maximo was the worst in both food and service. This restaurant is definitely not worth the money and did not feel Michelin-worthy at all. read more

Holding a Michelin Star, we were expecting Maximo to be better than it was. It was one of the more expensive meals we had in CDMX, and we'd been excited thanks to all the hype online, but while the food was good, the service was certainly lacking. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time, and despite ordering a la carte options quickly, it took what felt like forever for our food and drinks to arrive. Appetizers were brought out as they were ready, which left some of us without appetizers while others ate theirs so they didn't go cold. It wasn't as big of a deal for the appetizers as it was for our entrees though, and despite waiting over 30 minutes between apps and entrees, and we were all surprised when the entrees were delivered one at a time with multiple minutes in between. With only four of us in our group, we thought the timing of things was really disappointing, along with the length of the meal, which took over two and a half hours. Despite the food being good, it was overshadowed by the poor service and timing, and overall, Maximo felt like a miss and for the high cost. We wouldn't go back again. read more

Came here based on a few personal recommendations and it did not disappoint! Service was great but not pretentious for a fine-dining establishment. It was kind of hard to make reservations, but alas we did and it was for lunch time. The table bread was yummy as were their drinks! For our food, we ordered a few options to share. We got the octopus ceviche - this was fresh, but a little bit flat in flavors; kamapachi with soy and ginger vinaigrette - this was delicious that I had to slurp up the sauce; wagyu beef cheek tagliatelle - so rich and flavorful; ravioli stuffed with oxtail - I didn't get to try this, but it was a top favorite for my group, and the wood-grilled red snapper - this was interesting... the fish was cooked nicely but the braised chard and mussel emulsion was really salty and tangy. We weren't stuffed, but very content with our experience. This was probably the best meal we had in CDMX. read more
I went to dinner at Maximo on my first night in Mexico City, and it certainly met all of my expectations and made me very excited to explore more of the culinary delights in Mexico City!! For starters we had the Organic Chicken Liver Parfait and Duck Fois Gras, which was served with the freshest, softest brioche which to this day I am craving - It was spectacular!!! The Organic Fried Chicken, Lemongrass Butter also came highly recommended... But it was unfortunately sold out by the time we were ready to order. Our server recommended the stuffed chicken wings instead; and I'm glad that we went with the suggestion because they were absolutely devine. For my main I ordered the Wood Grilled Sea Bass, Heirloom Beans stew... Which unfortunately fell flat for me. I really love sea bass but it's a fish that I believe should be seasoned, and I couldn't taste any seasoning and found the heirloom bean stew to be far too overpowering. My friend had the Tagliatelle Wild Boar and Short Rib Sausage Ragu which she loved!! All in all there is a reason that Maximo has the reputation that it has... The food, service and ambience are all worthy of a Michelin restaurant! I would definitely recommend dining at Maximo and would also recommend making a reservation as early as possible as they book up VERY VERY quickly! read more
A beautiful meal with gorgeous ingredients in a hip space. The food: everything we ate was excellent. I wish we were hungrier so we could've tried more dishes. - octopus ceviche: incredible flavors, octopus was perfect - crab and snapper tostada: light, fresh, and very tasty - corn and mushrooms: could really taste each ingredient and the perfect portion for how rich it was - chicken breast: so tender and flavorful. The jus was wonderful. We ended up skipping dessert but the chocolate tart sounded delightful. Like I said, go hungry! Service was friendly but there were a few misses. 20 min delay to be seated, another 15 mins before someone came to take our order. But the meal itself was paced well and the staff was so professional and friendly. It was packed when we went and while the space is beautiful (and I loved the tall candlesticks on each table), it was very loud. It was cool to see the kitchen on full display as you walk in. Overall, highly recommend! read more
5* all around. Excellent meal. Each dish we ordered blew us away. Dishes were larger than expected. Highlights were the raw fish preparations: octopus ceviche and the hamachi crudo (dashi gelee genius!) Roast chicken skin reminiscent of peking duck. So much talent and creativity going into each dish. Memorable. Atmosphere is casual, comfortable, really emulates a feeling of being in someone's home. Service is impeccably friendly while professional. Favorite meal in all of Mexico City (even more than Pujol!). Highly, highly recommend. read more
