The crab tartare was lovely and the roast salmon, with slightly smoky flavor, was excellent. Both evenings started with an amuse bouche of warm asparagus soup with what was described as a coffee cream with nuts. It was delicious. The wine pairings were absolutely perfect as was the Cremant aperitif. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. We were there on a cold night. Inside it was also cold. Many customers had their jackets on; I finally put mine on about half way through the meal. The chairs were most uncomfortable! Both my wife and noticed how bad the seating was - the chairs kinda made you lean forward; they were most unpleasant. I'd eat here again but would NOT eat inside sitting on the uncomfortable chairs. If inside were the only choice we'd walk on by and find somewhere else.

I also noticed that under every review mentioning the "angry old lady," the owner insists it wasn't her and that tourists were "confused." To avoid any doubt, I attached a photo of her and the waiter -- the very people who behaved rudely, using the harshest words without the slightest provocation. Our stay was literally 500 feet from the restaurant so we totally lucked out! It's a tiny restaurant with only about 10 tables. It was full of Germans and even the one woman server seemed German but spoke delightful French and she was also very friendly and helpful with the menu. Alsacienne food is served here which is more of a German twist. The wines are inexpensive, blanc, and more on the sweeter side - delicious paired with food. My salad was amazing and huge. Lettuce was topped with juicy pieces of grilled chicken, sweetest tomatoes, apples, almonds, and amazing deep fried croutons. Why can't they do this all over France? Husband's starter was the omelette and salad. The buttery omelette was decadent and had generous bits of bacon. YUM! The entree was choucroute (saurkraut - a must have in this area) topped with pork belly, ham, bratwurst, sausage, potatoe and a dallop of mustard. It was all delicious and very satisfying to say the least. The meal was surprising inexpensive - we had so much food =) A high recommendation!!

It's a small menu and just about everything that's not on the prix fixe menus was out (a rabbit dish that looked great, and 1-2 other things on the menu). Entrees were good (soup and foie gras), but main plates were both underwhelming. I had two tiny fillets of fish on top of a lot of peppers while my wife had a large cut of steak which was prepared "perfectly cooked" in French which of course comes out rare most of the time per French preferences. Unfortunately this cut of meat was very tough and virtually inedible at this temperature unless cut into tiny little pieces - if it was "medium rare" by UK/American standards it would have been great but not so much when served blue. My wife left a portion of her steak, and I left quite a bit of my plate which wasn't remotely exciting or worth eating. The cheese plate however is worth getting, and my dessert was pretty good plus they had some nice glass pours to pair with both my foie gras and dessert. Prices are quite reasonable for the high end atmosphere and service, and the dining room has a nice fireplace which I'm sure is great in the winter. One couple in the restaurant apparently even left their dog with the folks at hotel/restaurant reception and then picked up their dog after finishing their meal. That's high end service, I just wish our main courses had the same attention to detail. Yet, I would still return - and hope they had the braised rabbit with spaetzle available that night...
