Since we were at Yum Yum for one thing and one thing only - we ordered the two-course duck, which…read moreincluded the Peking duck and the duck with lettuce wrap. Other choices are available, but I didn't feel like soup or anything. The Peking duck (49) was not bad, though they didn't do a good job of cleaning the fat off the skin (which proper Peking duck is supposed to have), and the duck wasn't all that flavorful - maybe cause the sauce and green onions didn't taste right. The dish is really made for about 10 people as part of a family-style dinner, so I possibly just had a bit too much of the same flavor, but I thought the Peking duck was just mediocre. I've had much better lettuce wraps before, and don't think I'll be returning to Yum Yum, even though it may be the best for Peking duck in Brissy. It didn't live up to my expectations, and just got me craving for Great China's peking duck. Theirs is good enough that I'll put up with their unfriendly and inattentive service just to get some of their duck (and crab and buns)! Ah, I miss good Chinese food...

This will always be the place I spotted a celebrity in Centenary. Who else did I sit behind but…read moreBernard Fanning from Powderfinger. The little restaurant is a bit tiny inside, and echoey as I found out, so we did spend most of the time not focussing on our food, but on the conversation on the next table. Hey, it's not like we interruped him, we were the only other people in there! The next time we did focus on the food, and while the peking duck this restaurant boasts is pretty yummy (3.5/5 i'm a bit of a peking duck nazi) there are other dishes which compliment that style as well. Plus, you can come in and buy some BBQ meats hanging in the front display window for take away, you just tell them how much, they chop it up and off you go. The dry beef ho fan is quite delicious and packed full of flavour, and I really did love their roast pork and tofu hot pot. Both are tasty and leave you wanting more. I know that a lot of places have given this place raving reviews, evidence of the newspaper and magazine articles are cut out and sticky taped to the front door. I know that people like Bernie from Powderfinger even go there. But i've been to my fair share of chinese tucker places, and while this place has been highly rated, I can't say it's made my top 5. Go there for the duck and a few select dishes, you won't be disappointed. But make no mistake... this place is famous for it's duck... not it's dishes.

It's been 2 years since my last visit to Brisbane and of course, the obligatory visit to Kim Khanh…read moreis inevitable. In fact, it was my first meal after getting off the plane. Was super stoked, but then was super sad as it doesn't taste the same anymore. We've been patronizing Kim Khanh for years now -- like close to 10 years, probably through several owners -- and it's the first time I was slightly disappointed with my experience. The portions have shrunk -- I'd much rather they raise the prices and leave the portions alone. I thought the bun bo hue was decent, nice broth and not greasy. The fresh spring rolls were not great. Bo luc lac was nice and tasty. We always get the banh hoi -- like I said, shrunk in size like by 30%. Hope it improves.... it's been our family fave for years now. Sad to see it go down hill.

I'm not one of those people who will repeatedly patronise the same restaurant but I do have a regular rotation system happening for cheap, fast Asian food and Kim Khanh is in that rotation. The restaurant won't win any prizes for interior decor unless being kitsch makes a comeback but for flavoursome, fresh Vietnamese fare, try their pork ball and vermicelli hand rolls. My family and I have been coming here for years, possibly, through several owner changes as well…read more On this recent trip, we came here with my parents' friends for lunch on the weekend. The place was empty and I don't know why. The food is absolutely stellar and from the interaction of my parents and my parents' friends with the owner, I can tell they come here often. The Japanese style beef is tender and flavorful, as was the "sang chow guat" which is similar to sweet and sour pork but not as sweet nor as sour. It is so fresh and seasoned beautifully. The salt and pepper tofu is also delicious as is the "sang chow ngau yuk fan" which is a beef fried rice. It was a tad greasy but so tasty. The piece de resistance of the meal was the mud crab topped with rice vermecelli which has soaked up all the flavors from the crab. This was absolutely delicious and we (or shall I say, I) ate every little bit from the clay pot. There are other specials such as the pigeon which I've had years ago on previous visits, and I remember it being very good. The restaurant serves up pretty authentic Chinese food which I find is so hard to find in Brisbane when you want it done well. This place pretty much has remained consistent and is definitely a great place when you're looking for authentic fare. My dad didn't want me to write a review about it because he thought it would make it harder for him to get a table. HAHA.

When I saw that one of the chinese restaurants put on their takeaway menu 'the best chinese food in…read morecentenary' I thought automatically... no, they can't claim that title legitimately. So I went on a search, asked friends and put my ear to the ground. I heard there was another great chinese little place up the road, still in Centenary... I thought, yes, i'm up for the challenge. I will compare their dishes same for same, and let's see what I find out. That opponent was Good Taste. I am happy to report, it is just that. Or should I call it Great Taste? The Chow Kuey Teow (yummy fried noodle dish, trust me, it's yummy) was fried with the right heat in a wok, giving it that great smoking taste. The sweet and sour pork belly was crispy, sweet and sour and very appetising. The prices were pretty much the same as well. Well call me an asian, sit me in a hawker stall on the naked streets of Kuala Lumpur and hand me a Good Taste dish, I am there. The food is authentic, fresh, piping hot when they serve it, and they are friendly, fast and guess what... if you go there for dinner with a group larger than 4, they give you a free soup appetiser and a free desert, plus oranges. Bonus! Chinese people like their free stuff, so for chinese people to be giving free stuff away, you can only guess what happens. If you can't, it makes chinese people beyond happy! So it comes as no surprise that on Friday nights and weekends, this little Great Tasting place is packed full of big groups of people. Even the derelict shopping centre it's located in won't stop people coming in the door. Love it. Give me some more chilli. Maybe the other chinese place should put 'second best place to get chinese food in centenary'.

Firstly, you know its genuine Vietnamese cooking because it's located in Darra - suburb of all things Vietnamese. Secondly, try their signature chilli crab which I guarantee will silence all sceptics. Just don't wear your best clothes, be prepared to get your hands dirty and leave your table manners at home. This is a dish that you have to suck, slurp and bite through to savour every last morsel. If you're not after extravagant seafood, their pho noodles, vermicelli salads and do-it-yourself hand rolls are equally tasty. In fact, we have a rule whenever we dine here to try at least one new dish and we've never yet been disappointed. Take a look at my uploaded photos saved over many meals at Que Huong but be warned. Photos can cause irrational behaviour due to hunger pains. The restaurant is pretty large with two levels but it can get crowded on the weekends so make sure you book ahead of time.
