Monday I called and asked for them to be corrected -no problem. Wednesday done again and chipped by Friday. This was my first and last experiences with Max. I have been getting gel manicures for years and this is the first time this has EVER happened. They are more expensive and not worth it. Nail tech said to me when I was getting my redo that it has happened before and didn't know why. I'd say figure it out before you take peoples service money and nice tips. I personally wouldn't recommend someone who hold an ethnic background to come to Max Salon & Spa. Booked a same day appointment with Alexus and she was 20 minutes late. I asked for a wolf cut and to cut my bangs. She totally messed up my bangs and she knew they were uneven because she had cut one side of my bangs shorter and she invited me to come back so she can fix my bangs for free. I paid $55 bucks for the hair cut when really it was just a trim. She seemed like she didn't know how to touch my hair as I have shiny straight Asian black hair. So it feels that their ideal that they can do any type of hair is really false. Also she was super rough when she was washing my hair. I don't know if that's just how she does it or she intentionally was being rough. It was also super rough when she dried my ears because it felt like she really didn't care and it hurt. It was really uncomfortable when she would stand in front of me, and her body was touching my knees. I never had a hair dresser touch any part of my body, so it was quite a shock to me. What also threw me off is when I asked for a wolf cut and she had question of, "Do you style your hair like that?". I think it was a sign that she knew she couldn't do what I wanted. Lastly, if they know you aren't a good client. You really just default to whoever can take you. Because there was another hair dresser that came to Alexus and was asking her if she wanted this client, and she openly said, "No, I don't want to take her." Which I found really unprofessional. If I had tipped, I would've gave this rating a 1 star, but the cash tip I didn't give to Alexus is the extra star. read more

Worst hair cut ever. I had the young woman with red hair. I know she's newly graduated but it was atrocious. I said collar bone length hair with layers and she essentially gave me a wolf cut. I specified long layers but these layers are so short I look like a 90s anime character. Honestly when I saw it I was in tears there's not even enough hair left to fix it because she started thinning it without asking me. Also while she did it it hurt so much it was like she was pulling my hair out not cutting it, she didn't even notice I was in pain or listen to me when I asked her to stop. I have been going to Aveda salons for years (primarily Progressions at MOA) and I found myself in a situation of once again following a stylist or mapping myself somewhere else when Progressions closed. If my stylist had stuck with Aveda I likely would have followed her again but alas she didn't and moved to Uptown which I just find too inconvenient. I was in the area before Christmas and decided to last minute book. Appointment made with Elyse- however, I got done at my other appointment and called to see if by chance they could get me in that night instead of the week out that I booked. Success! Elyse was friendly, efficient, and I was pleased with the cleaning up of my cut. Fast forward to January 2019, and a last minute decision to add color. Elyse consulted with me about my natural color, prepared me for it being darker than I am used to, and boom she was under way. Loved the work my last gal put in but I would honestly be in the chair for 3.5 hours. Not the case with Elyse, I was in and out in 2 hours and she graciously started early when I had arrived! My husband purchased a groupon for me for a customized facial and brow wax. WOW! Kassandra was totally Amazing! She first consulted with me about any skin irritations and looked at my brows. I must say she did alot of extras that I have never experienced before. From the frozen stone over the brows when finished to the peel I have never had. Also a salt exfoliation and then froze with cold water. Brrr but it felt Wonderful. I was skeptical of the peel but she assured me it was very gentle and she was RIGHT! I will go back-I was totally impressed. She also explained to me the steps and services I would be receiving. AWESOME! One of the BEST FACIALS EVER!!!! Got a full foil through Groupon with Sarah. I went here because the last time I did a full foil here, the lady did a great job! However, this time was different. I realize it's hard to achieve platinum hair within one session but it was very possible. If you see my hair before and now after getting it done by Sarah, you will see hardly a difference. I wanted my hair and makeup done for my wedding this last September. I contacted the salon well in advance and spoke at length with the receptionist about options. Looking to stay within my budget, and since my wedding was an outdoor, mid-day wedding, I asked if I could do a regular makeup appointment ($37) instead of a wedding-day makeup appointment ($52) and was assured I could. I was quoted $55 for the hair appointment, as it wouldn't be an updo. I took notes in my calendar regarding the information I had been given. I made my hair and makeup appointments, and met with the hair stylist (who would do both hair and makeup) a week prior to the wedding, as requested by the receptionist. I brought in pictures of my hair how I wanted it for the wedding, pictures of makeup on actresses, and discussed options for my hair and makeup for the day. We agreed upon a wispy pull-back of my hair on the sides, leaving the rest of my long hair down and curly, and a light, matte finish for my makeup, as the ceremony was scheduled outside, at noon. On the day of my appointment, fifty minutes into my appointment, the hair stylist whirled me around to take a look in the mirror (the hair appointment was 60 minutes total) and my hair was nothing like we discussed. Granted, my hair in the back looked like roses, but the hair in the front and sides of my head was plastered to my head and there were no curls. What I saw in the mirror wasn't what we had discussed or agreed upon. With ten minutes left, there was little time to do much fixing, and I was near tears. So, at my request, we pulled a little hair out of the sides, but it didn't look much better, and felt there was nothing we could do with no time left in my appointment. Immediately following was my makeup appointment, so I kept my feelings to myself for the time being and let him do my makeup. I am sure he could tell I was unhappy with my hair. However, with my makeup, he did do a nice job. Finally, when I paid my bill, I was charged the full amount for the makeup appointment, (again, not what had been agreed upon) as well as $5 more for the hairdo, totaling an extra $20 than what I had expected. With so much on my mind that morning (what bride doesn't have a long list of to-do's on her wedding day?), I left the salon but called to follow up later, questioning the receptionist why I had been charged differently than I had been quoted. She responded there was "nothing she could do" and those were the "typical rates" for those services. I reiterated my notes in front of me and what we had discussed prior to the wedding. She made no effort to apologize, refund a portion of my bill, or make the situation "right." So much for customer service. Not only did I hate my hair on my wedding day and took it out as soon as I arrived back home (thankfully, a family member rescued my hair with a curling iron before the wedding), but felt completely misled by the salon. Had I known I wouldn't be listened to and prices not honored, I would have gone elsewhere. Not what any bride wants on her wedding day. I won't be back. read more

I went to this salon for a 'formal' hairstyle which was listed at $55+ on the website. I recieved a lovely, simple hairstyle that took 30 minutes to do. Then I was charged $95 at checkout. When I inquired why the price went from $55 to $95, the receptionist was cold and said it's based on the experience of the stylist, however it does not indicate on the website that the price could go as high as $95. I would recommend to any future clients to get really clear on the price before booking an appointment her. My stylist was great but the pricing feels really misleading to me. read more

I absolutely love this Salon and can't wait for it to open again. Everyone there is so friendly, the atmosphere is calming, yet upbeat! They carry all the Aveda products, so I can leave with everything I will need to keep my hair healthy and smelling amazing. Oh and the fireplace room, that is my favorite!! I hate winter, but getting my hair done and sitting next to the fire, who could ask for more!! I have my favorite stylist but I won't share who, I'm selfish and I don't want her so booked up I can't get in, but I have followed her for years and by far this is the nicest salon she has been at! Finally I have to say something about the incredible owner!! There was a mistake on something my daughter had ordered and not only did he go out of his way to make it right, he also gave her a large discount on the service. Talk about great customer relations!! That is the kind of story you spread around because it is so rare in today's world, and she appreciated it so much. I love this place!! James is the only stylist that I have ever had that every single time I leave the salon I feel like I got a perfect cut/color/style! He is so talented and extremely friendly. I love my hair - it is super thick, has a lot of volume, and can be extremely difficult to style and cut, but James makes it work every time! I am so picky with my stylists, and I am so happy that I found someone I can go to, without being a nervous wreck. Cost is a little high, but totally worth it. After all, you get what you pay for! I got the Groupon for the facial and brow wax and was booked an appointment with Kassandra. My appointment started with a quick consultation for the brow wax where I told her I have very sensitive skin and always get super red and break out after brow waxes. She had a few tricks up her sleeve and I didn't have any irritation after my wax. I was thoroughly impressed! She also took the time to map out my brows by drawing on my face before waxing, making sure they'd end up symmetrical. I'm very particular about my brows and Kassandra is one of the best estheticians I've ever seen. I will definitely re-book with her. My facial was very relaxing and my skin looked great for days afterwards. I thought Kassandra was very knowledgeable and thorough. By the end I wished I had booked a longer facial!
