I was parked in front of my own townhouse while movers were working next door. One of them asked me to move my car, and I told him no because this is where I live and it's the parking for my home. Instead of respecting that, he told one of his coworkers that I was "one of those people" and said they'd just park their moving truck in the middle of the street. Look, I get that moving is hectic and they're trying to do their job--but that doesn't mean the people who actually live here should have to rearrange everything to make it easier for them. A little basic respect and communication would go a long way. Do the job you're paid to do without making it everyone else's problem. read more

Wow! My family had a big move from Houston to magnolia Texas. Our crew was CRAZY fast and insanely great. Our furniture was perfectly handled. They got a job that other movers would have taken 2days to complete - done in a short day. My friend moved on the same day around the block and spent twice as much as we did. I also love that they offered free second hand boxes before the move, and if anything wasn't packed perfectly, they just swept it up and popped it in a box for us and got it to the new house! My friend hired Max Movers to move her. She is elderly and was highly taken advantage of! Where she was moving from - the elevator went out and Max Movers said they couldn't get her stuff to her new place that day and would have to store it. They charged HER for storage too! Over the next MONTH, they would bring her a little bit of her things at a time. A month after she moved, she finally has most of her stuff. A MONTH! And they charged her to store her stuff this entire time as well! Most of her sterling silver silverware is now gone as well as some other things. They lost a piece of her antique grandfather clock so she had to pay a clock man to come fix it. They would not pay for the "lost" items and would not refund her for the storage or anything else. Do not hire these crooks! I tell all of my elderly friends about this too to make sure they do not get taken advantage of as well. read more

Beware!!! I have used this company for years for moving and storage without a single issue, but never again. This place has gone down hill. I paid for my stuff to be kept in climate controlled storage for almost a year. Per independent appraiser, it was not kept in climate control as evidenced by antique inlays warping and curling. Further, some pieces were severely damaged in transit. At their suggestion, i took out insurance to cover possible transit damage. Now they are telling me insurance will not cover the damage. I called Max Movers desperate for help when a larger moving company canceled on me without notice. The Max team showed up on time and ready to move. The hourly rate was fair and the minimum charge was far less than what the other company was going to charge. The guys who showed up were professional, very well prepared, and were careful with my belongings. They never once slid a box across a floor; everything was lifted and move responsibly. Not only were they great, they helped me in a pinch. If I'm paying for my next move, I'll hire Max Movers again. Oh, and if my review doesn't convince you, you should know the lead guy on my moving team has been with this company for approximately 30 years, which indicates it has good people running its shop. From the first phone call to get an estimate and the follow up and confirmation calls, to the moving crew, the whole team was the most friendly and professional group I've dealt with regarding a move. I've moved more than 20 times in my adult life and the men that loaded my truck were the best movers I've ever had, hands down. I rented my own truck and they loaded it for me. My truck was almost too small, but these guys not only fit it all in, it was packed like an engineer preplanned it on a blueprint! I was on the 3rd floor, interior location. I would not recommend using Max Movers for moving/storage if you have nice furniture. We were lied to as we paid for climate controlled storage and our furniture was stored in the warehouse without real climate control. Our furniture were stored loose in the warehouse and not in storage vault as most do. Our furniture was not fully damage but had some crack, shrinkage and etc. Also, one of our small expensive desktop speaker were stolen last year during our move. read more

Have used them 3 or 4 times, staff are nice and yes picking up boxes for free does help. Had 7 men pack us, store the furniture and then 7 men move us, the 13 hour move was grueling at best, even though it was just 37 miles away. Biggest issue that apparently comes with the industry is after unpacking for the last 3 weeks (12 hours non-stop each day) am finding boxes marked to go to the study which is downstairs but the boxes are upstairs in the game room which means I have to drag the boxes downstairs. Still have not found the finials to the bedroom lamps, wonder what box that might be discovered in. Missing a Bose speaker and eureka, found it today in my sewing kit, what are the odds I would have not opened the sewing kit until the next button flew off, maybe 6 months? These are all boxes they packed, I did my fair share of packing prior to the move. Just 100 boxes left to go, did find a box with 50 lbs of paint thinner, etc., marked garage, located in the attic, yikes! Don't think I want to pay a trip charge+ for them to come and help me unpack so items will still land in the wrong room. They had a hard time finding the new house and even on mapquest it was not easy but the office folks were to have given the drivers good directions, that ate up time on the clock that I paid for. There were dings on the walls where the guys left black marks, hope to find time to clean those up soon, the overall experience was exactly what you pay for, and we believe the company is one to be supported. Although I had moved about 7 boxes downstairs to the garage that were marked garage but taken to the attic, at my request within 7 weeks two men came back and moved the 50 lb boxes that were correctly labeled on all 4 sides from the attic to the gareage. Will use them again. preferably before I'm in a pine box. read more

We hired Max movers for packing. The crew was nice, but after getting a bill $500 more than anticipated we felt like they were ripping us off. As I unpacked everything the following day, I noticed that they had used several boxes for one or two items and stuffed it with paper. They do not use bubble wrap, just tons of paper. We had so many weightless boxes. I'm glad I took it upon myself to pack the kitchen, if not no telling how many more boxes would have been used. I am equally happy that we did not use them for moving. We would not recommend this company for packing again. read more

Max movers were nothing but too notch! They efficiently moved our things from our home and carefully itemized and stored them in their air conditioned storage facility until our new home was built. They were very accommodating when we moved into our new home and took the time to assemble furniture, arrange it where we wanted and clean up after themselves. They all worked seamlessly and did not stop until it was all unpacked. They were very careful moving and re assembling our baby grand piano. I highly recommend this moving company. read more

I called this guy yesterday when I was starting to shop for prices, and told him I wasn't 100% sure of the date but I would call him when I was ready. several emails and texts throughout the day, then a phone call from him WHILE i WAS EATING DINNER last night, when I told him he was starting to piss me off. Very professional movers. We used Max both to help us with packing and to move across Houston. The packing service was outstanding, three guys came out the weekend before the move and did an excellent job of packing up our kitchen and a few closets we hadn't gotten to yet. Everything was packed very quickly and securely. Be aware, you can save a little bit of money on this step if you provide your own materials (boxes, paper, etc.). As for the move itself, it took a little bit longer than I had expected, but it was blazing hot that day and we had a lot of stuff. The four movers seemed to work very quickly to get everything moved out of the house and stowed away safely in the trucks. They even disassembled some Ikea furniture and then reassembled it at the new house. We did have one minor problem, a piece of wooden furniture was scratched, but one of the movers patched it up with a kit and it's impossible to tell without closely examining that the scratch occurred. I saw them wrap that piece with moving blankets and tie it to the wall in the truck, so not sure how it happened. Overall, very satisfied with the service from Max, starting with our first phone call and ending with the last box being brought into the house. Highly recommended. read more

I've used Max Movers twice now, and with both experiences I can honestly say that I have absolutely NO complaints. I'm a fan of supporting local businesses, and this one is truly worthy of all the support I can muster. Their professionalism cannot be matched! On top of that, I find their business practices to be a cut above the competition, too. For example, you can go by their warehouse and pick up gently used boxes of all shapes and sizes at NO CHARGE, and you can also recycle your boxes through them once you've unpacked them. They charge by the hour rather than by the item, which worked out to be about half of the price of what I was quoted by other movers. The team of 4 movers actually showed up a few minutes early, and they hustled the entire time they were there. I had kolaches and juice waiting for them and they didn't even stop to eat - they just took the food with them in the truck instead. I was really impressed by their conscientiousness and it was clear to me that they were absolutely not going to do anything that might give the slightest appearance that they might be working the clock. They moved us in record time without even the tiniest scratch on our belongings. Highly recommended! read more

Ten years ago we had a good move with Max Movers -- not this time. The crew complained repeatedly during the 4-hour move, our furniture was banged up and treated roughly by the men. The driver was nice but took no responsibility. They left before hooking up our gas dryer which they had contracted to do. And my grandmother's antique chest of drawers went missing. We are now almost 30 days post-move and the company has done NOTHING about the missing chest, despite repeated emails to the "manager." Let me start by saying that we choose this moving/packing company based off of a referral. After cross checking with Yelp and seeing the awesome reviews, we were confident that we were going with one of the best moving companies in Houston. Although I had packed most of the house we hired the Max Movers packers to come out the day before the move. The number of packers you have determines the hourly rate. Since I had packed over 50% the house we figured 3 men should get the packing job done quickly. Upon arrival only 2 men showed (we had made arrangements for 3). I received no phone call or heads up that only 2 packers would be coming but I simply brushed it off. The packers seemed great, honest and kind. They packed and labeled the boxes throughly and were gone after 4.5 hours. The next day was moving day. The 4 men brought 2 trucks. They loaded one with things going to storage and the other with things going the house. This idea sounded so functional. Some how upon unloading at the new house boxed clearly labeled STORAGE were left at the house. Also, boxes labeled UPSTAIRS or MASTER BEDROOM were just left in the dining area, which is downstairs. If it was a box or 2 that was overlooked I wouldn't be upset but after you cut a 2,300 check and you come home and have to carry multiple heavy boxes upstairs you get pissed off. The icing on the cake happened when we unpacked. It was an absolute JOKE. The amount of paper /boxes wasted was unbelievable. For example I had one LARGE box that had 2 mini size hand sanitizers wrapped with about 10 pieces of packing paper (what the hell... they are plastic) and 2 picture frames on the bottom of the box. There was nothing else in the box. After thinking about it it made sense for them to wrap each ridiculous item individually (because it took more time up) and it made sense for them to pack as little as they could in each box (because they charged for each one). All and all I am very dissatisfied by the service of this company. I tried to call and explain my frustrations to the business directly but was put on hold and tossed around to multiple women with attitudes that were unwilling to accept responsibility and put their customer first. If you enjoy tossing money in the air and being wasteful I would suggest Max Movers to you. If not, I suggest looking elsewhere. read more
