This is my second or third time staying here and I'm always happy with it. I only stay here if I'm staying for one or two nights.
The advantage to Hotel Max is that it is really good value for money. You don't pay all that much (especially compared to some of the nearby properties), but you get a very clean room that is perfectly reasonable.
I always say they should name it the "Hotel Min" instead of the Hotel Max because you're getting the minimum that you require. But that's exactly the point. If you don't need much more than a shower and a bed, then this is perfect. It's near shopping, transport, and restaurants. It's fairly easy to check in and out using the automated kiosks.
You will pay extra for absolutely everything, but that's the principle. You're not allowed to be annoyed by that because it's explicitly stated up front. I get annoyed when I pay 3 times as much to stay at the Ritz Carlton and then they want to charge me €14.95 per day for Internet. But when you stay at a place like Max, where they tell you up front that you'll pay for your amenities, the €5 per day for Internet doesn't seem like a big deal. Especially given what I'm saving in the overall room rate.
I come to Brussels fairly often and stay for a few days at a time. If I'm staying for a week, there are some nice aparthotels in the same area that will supply dishes, a kitchen, a microwave and so on. And there's a grocery store quite close too. Paying a little extra on the room, then saving by making meals in the room is a healthy way to travel. But if I have to pop into the Rogier or De Brouckere part of Brussels for just a day or two, Max is my go-to hotel. read more
