I'm a massive tea and coffee fan, so it follows that I would enjoy looking at what they have in store! They have a number of different coffees, both strengths and flavours, instant and filter varieties. They have a number of different teas too, from green, white, herbal, fruit, black, leaf, instant and bagged! Phew. Lots and lots of tea. You can buy variety packs of both tea and coffee, which make great gifts for tea and coffee lovers like myself! The only bad bit is that the majority of their products don't have the fair trade marker, which is a must for me. They also do other items such as china sets, cafetieres and so on. I bought an incredibly reasonable £15 cafetiere as a Christmas gift, together with a lovely glass mug for £4 and some coffee for £2.50! My friend was given a tea pot and cup and saucer from Whittards too, and she absolutely adores it. The shop was very tidy and the staff were efficient so everything was alright by me. The product I wanted was not on the shop floor so a very helpful and polite staff member offered to check the stockroom for me. While she was doing so the other member of staff made conversation which made me feel very welcome. Although Bolton cente has a whopping four branches of Greenhalghs this patricular branch is one of the two smaller ones yet still has a decent window display of many mouthwatering cakes etc and a great selection of goods inside. Inside you can buy pretty much what you'd expect from hot sausage rolls and pasties to cakes and cookies as well as sandwiches and drinks. they also offer meal deals etc for adults and kids alike which are always worth considering to make it that bit cheaper. The staff are always friendly and willing and there is a general relaxed atmosphere even when it's heaving with customers. The products themselves are extremely tasty if not a little more expensive then it's competitors Greggs.

This Tesco Express (formerly Tesco Metro) location is over two floors on Market Street, on the…read morecorner going onto Brown Street, right opposite the Arndale. It is probably the largest convenience store in the city centre, stocking a range of essentials and a little bit more over two floors, you can get between the floors using an escalator, but there also is lift access (the lift is super slow though and has been for years!). There is a decent selection of to-go food and drinks, including a Costa Express coffee machine, you can also find the occasional item on the small yet useful hot food counter, but that does tend to go fast. The layout of the store is easy to follow, I personally dislike the two-floor format for a store like this, as it means having to spend more time going up/down escalators and searching around the store, this is the type of store you want to get in and out quickly, and being over two floors and a lack of supporting mobile payment similar to Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer nearby, there are drawbacks. Most of the staff seem friendly and helpful, but there are a couple of bad apples. There are plenty of self-service checkouts, and a couple of manned checkouts too, there always seems to be a handful of machines either not in use or broken down, so there's always a wait at the checkout for some reason. The prices are much higher now than they were under the Tesco Metro brand, so you are paying a good bit more than you would in a regular Tesco store, which is annoying! 4* - A good and large store in the city centre, yet could be far better.

After a few drinks the night before and on my way to a day at a craft workshop, I needed something refreshing on the walk over to Castlefield to help me feel energised (and get rid of dry mouth!) Currently going through a small love affair with strawberry milk, my sights were already set on their strawberry frappe milkshake. Many of their cold drinks are displayed in the cooler along with the sandwiches, so you can make your decision before heading up to the bar, which I can imagine comes in very handy during peak times. The barista serving was super friendly, asking me about my day whilst my drink was whirring away, and wishing me a lovely weekend. The drink itself was just what I needed for the walk, not too sweet but perfectly cold, and a lighter consistency than the Frappuccino at Starbucks. What really struck me about this visit was the interior of the space - for a chain coffee shop, it was bloody lovely! Lots of dark wood, comfortably looking seating, and classical music playing. A calm, relaxed environment I can totally imagine spending an afternoon working or catching up with friends in if I couldn't find an independent nearby.
