Bread, Meat, Fish, Mexican food. My favourite stall is Posh Pickles who do jams from fruit from this country, mango chutney and all sorts of pickles. This month I bought Lemon Grass and Ginger Jelly. their Caribbean Marmalade is to die for. The man with the Mexican food stall, does gorgeous Cornbread. He saves a loaf for me each month, because my friend is alergic to wheat. The latest improvement is cornbread with sultanas in it. The bread stall has types of bread which I had never heard of. my favourite is her Walnut loaf, 2nd her Date bread. The meat is sourced from north Cumbria. Occasionally one of the local breweries bring a range of their bottled beers. Even if you don't buy much the market is fun to visit. I'll update this if the stalls change.

However it is still predominantly a vegetable shop and although it now sells sausages and bacon it doesn't have an extensive butchery department like some farm shops. However what it does it does well. A good variety of veg, lots of it local including potatoes that still have some soil on, hurrah! They aren't slavish to the local theme though and also supply more exotic fruit and veg from further afield. They also supply chutneys, sweets, posh crisps, jams, pastas, rice, milk, cream, and the wonderful Cartmel sticky toffee pudding. There's a great selection of local Lancashire cheeses including Dewlay cheeses from just down the road and also good quality cheese from elsewhere in the world such as feta cheese and mozzarella. Along one wall there's a large selection of bird food and feeders which ties in with there being a small gardening section alongside the shop. All in all a great farm shop which offers fair value and a good variety of stock without erring too much towards garden centre style overpricing.

The sign in the window said that they will make up baskets whilst you wait. I havn't used that service, but the quality of the actual baskets looked good, and the ones on display were attractively packed. We travelled by train on this last European…read moretrip, we went back and forth about whether we should drive or train or do a combination of both. We decided on going the train route totally. Driving on the left hand side is not something to choose easily....I have only done it once before in 1982 in Jamaica and it was fine because I was incredibly young and the roads were less travelled back then but it's hard to change. I know many accidents/ deaths that have happened because of this. Anyway we decided to do the train bit. When we arrived at the York train station we had some time to wait so Joe said " Go check out the Booths" I already knew this is a grocery store chain in England and had seen it before But I was blown away at this one and was surprised to find it at the Windermere train station. I spent a good 45 minutes in there and purchased many items for our next destination. Beautiful produce and it also had a whole bakery area and a area with pharmacy type items too. When Joe insisted I go honestly I was a bit annoyed like Why? Lol Great store! Best in town!

Booths by a wide margin is the largest and nicest grocery store in Windermere. Excellent selection…read moreof produce, international and British staples, and a massive wine and liquor section. I made several Thai dishes and Booths had all the necessary ingredients from fish sauce to palm sugar to dried kaffir lime leaves. Prices are much lower and the selection much larger than you'd find in London. Try £26 for a bottle of Veuve, and yes we bought a case for Christmas lunch! If you're self catering in the Lake District and are looking for quality well above your average Tesco Express, be sure to make the drive to Booths.
