Not sure what they do the rest of the year but this is the simplest, most organised christmas tree shopping I have ever done and I was well pleased with the product and the experience. You got 3 types of trees and 4 - 5 ranges of height, organised in rows. Bloody simple, and the trees look pretty good too. I don't know what are the prices but we paid £37 for a 5-6ft Nordman. The Topiary cafe within seemed to be doing a roaring trade during my visit and I'm sure the outside seating will make it even more popular in the summer. There's a large crafts section and the usual posh gifts to be found in garden centres, also a food section with chutneys and more. All in all a classy garden centre which would appeal to gardeners and non-gardeners alike, a nice place to have a drive out to and a mosey around! :-)

I also get all my bedding plants and tubs in the Summer and can select from the varied shrubs on offer. A friend and I always visit the clothing section after we've had lunch at the Topiary Café and have purchased sweaters, jackets and tunics in the past. We are never disappointed with the food on offer at the Café. One of the reasons why I didn't rate Burnside 5 stars is because it's selection of houseplants and cacti is very limited. Altogether though, a good place to visit.

It may well be this but when I walked past I was overjoyed to find a little garden centre that looks like it rose up from ground and grew out of the trees that hide it. It exists mostly outside with a lady, a cat and dog huddled round a wood burner, running the place. There are plants everywhere, planted in boots, old toilets, amongst carved pieces of wood, as well as in pots, for sale. Recently I picked up a pot of thyme for £1.50 but there were loads of herbs and flowers I could have chosen from. I also wanted some trays and pots to plant my seeds in so I asked if they had any. The lady told me they had loads and to help myself from the pile for no charge! This beats sterile and expensive landscaped garden centres I have tried to avoid since my childhood any day.

They sell beautiful healthy plants which are so much cheaper than at any local garden centre. You can also buy wood and good quality manure in the autumn. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The owner, Gwen, and her daughter, have a wealth of gardening knowledge and will go out of their way to help and advise. My 3 year old boy loves to visit and see the hens, the dog and the river while I browse the plants on offer and soak up the atmosphere.
