I have never tasted apples like the ones this local independent and trust worthy shop has to offer, and there is always locally grown seasonal produce. Matthew always makes the effort to find fresh produce that has been grown within 50 miles of his shop and labels them for all his customers to see. An added bonus is if there is something particular you are after, all you have to do is ask and the next day you have the best quality of it! There is a free delivery service if you cant carry your 10lb of spuds and carrots etc home with you or if you cant get to the shop at all which is fab for the older generation. Of all the greengrocers I have seen, I have never once comented on a beautiful display. Normally, it comes part and parcel of having a fruit and veg shop, and the produce is just stacked up, without having had much thought put into it. Neil's however is the exception. With carrots fanned out and everything looking perfect in its place, thought has evidentally gone int every inch of the stall, and quite frankly it is the most tempting fruit and veg stall I have ever seen! Fantastic. Prices are competitive, but not a patch on what you'd pay elsewhere.

The trees aren't big enough for me though, if i'm having a tree, i go hard or go home. Its always open so if your local and need a quick supply of potatoes, that's where you need to be.

They are not strictly vegetarian and stock a nice range of organic/free range meat, as well as fresh veg and the usual meat/dairy/gluten free produce. When you first get in there is an abundance of brightly coloured vegetables and potatoes and carrots that are still dirty (always a good sign). I knew I was in my kind of place straight away. I love that they try to keep packaging to a minimum, using paper bags for the fresh vegetables. There is a huge range of vegetarian products (more tofu than you could ever need...if that's even a thing), seitan and tempeh in all different forms. I love how their dried foods are all packaged in simple bags with their label on....gotta love no fuss packaging. There is also a deli counter ranging from olives, onion bhajis and daals. I tried an onion bhaji and it was amazing. Although pricier than most supermarkets, I thought the prices were reasonable (being used to Wholefoods etc. in London) for organic, fresh produce and I love that it is a co-operative. I would definitely rather pay more for local produce that isn't mass-produced. I will definitely be shopping here regularly.

Amazed by this place…read more I haven't seen anywhere like it since my travels to Portland. It has a real community atmosphere. Everyone involved, from the growers to the staff to the people shopping, care and it really shows. It's honest. It's exactly where you want to buy your vegetables. There's soil on the fresh produce. Actual soil. No cellophane, no unnecessary packaging, no nonsense - just tasty, local food. The shelves are clearly labelled and well stocked with interesting offerings. They have your staples - potatoes, all the usual veg, cereals, spices, fruits as well as some more unusual choices when/if it's in season. Prices are reasonable and when you pay you feel like you're contributing - something you never experience in a chain supermarket. There's a play area for kids and free apples to keep them occupied - with a little compost bin for the cores. A big green thumbs up.

A few were lined up on the two tables outside of the shop. It was a beautiful day and with the lovely colours of the flowers, it put me a thoroughly good mood. It wasn't until I went into the shop to buy one of these pots that I realised in the seasonal absence of flowers this was a traditional green grocers. With supermarkets buying up every available space its not so common to see a shop selling just fruit and vegetables these days. Although there were a few eggs and bottles of milk for sale also, sourced from a local farm, I noticed from the label. The inside of the store was a pleasing to the eye as the outside, with the large colourful array of foods spread out neatly.
